Mr. Who got a reaction from bollemanneke in Schindler's List - 2CD 25th Anniversary Edition from La-La Land Records (2018)
@Jay What listening order do you recommend?
I was never a big fan of the album presentation because it had the last piece first...

I am quite impressed with it, Marcy was too.
It's pretty crazy to me that there is a $100 piece of official Harry Potter merchandise that theoretically JK Rowling looked over before approving, that has my name on it.

The first cue recorded for HP1 was shockingly "5M4 Pt.4 Harry's Great Victory" while the last was "6M1A Christmas Music Box" (the keyboard version, not the singing version)
The first cue recorded for HP2 was "1M7 Escape From Dursleys", while the last was percussion overdubs for "1M1/1M2 Prologue Book II"

Mr. Who got a reaction from fuhrsy31 in James Newton Howard's FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD
I have seen the movie twice now and really love the movie and the score! I added a few cues that I know are missing from the OST to the track-list. I know there is more missing music but I can't really place it and some of the cues I added to the list might not be chronological.
1. The Threstal Chase (8:04)
2. Newt and Leta (2:32)
Ministry meeting - Grindelwald arrives in Paris 3. Dumbledore (2:11)
”It has to be you” - Newt takes the job The baby nifflers - newts apartment 4. The Kelpie (1:32)
Jacob and Queenie - Queenie leaves - Jacob in the Rain 5. Newt and Jacob Pack for Paris (2:27)
6. Nagini (4:15)
Queenie arrives in Paris - french ministry of magic 7. Newt Tracks Tina (2:27)
8. Queenie Searches for Jacob (1:35)
9. Irma and the Obscurus (2:56)
”For the greater good” Queenie and Grindelwald 10. Blood Pact (2:29)
11. Capturing the Zouwu (1:33)
Releasing the Zouwu Curing Yusuf Kama 12. Traveling to Hogwarts (1:06) (I think this was cue used in another scene)
Hogwarts (slightly re-arranged and re recorded) 13. Leta’s Flashback (4:40)
Polyjuice - Tina and newt enter fresh ministry - Theseus discovers newt 14. Salamander Eyes (2:38)
15. Matagots (2:15)
Jacob and Nicholas Flamel 16. Your Story is Our Story (3:21)
17. Leta’s Confession (5:14)

End credits (not sure if this is a cue/cues from the OST, an unreleased cue/cues or a new end credits composition, I had to leave during the credits) -

That’s a nice setup! What do you think about Century brass?
I use mostly Spitfire’s symphonic strings, brass, winds and orch percussion. I want to get the solo strings as well but my wallet doesn’t agree;)

I know we were talking about updating some of our sample libraries recently, thought I'd follow up after doing a bit of an overhaul with the help of some more tech savvy friends. After only recently switching to Cubase I've now started sequencing in Pro Tools instead of saving it only for work with audio. Not sure how that will proceed, I may be back to Cubase before long but I thought it might be worth it to try streamlining everything down to one DAW. In the end I didn't really update my libraries all that much. I am using 8dio's Century Strings and Embertone's solo strings, 8dio's Claire Woodwinds and some VSL woodwinds, 8dio's Century Brass, Hollywood Percussion from East West, Insolidus and Silka from 8dio, Embertone's Steinway, Omnisphere, Zebra, Diva, and Altiverb to bring everything together. Also sold some of my hardware synths and gear to cut down on clutter and get some new stuff. Now the synth lineup is the DX7, some Roland and Moog, and a growing modular system. Rack gear is cut down to a Lexicon PCM96, a Massive Passive and a Vari Mu. While I may have scoffed at the Moog One on announcement, I now really want one. Not gonna be able to convince Mrs. Pilgrim on that bill though.

For me it works way better on its own that in the arrival cue.

I’m not sure all those Duel of the Fates are tracked. Maybe in AotC but doesn’t RotS have a re-recorded choir? And wasn’t a lot of the tracking agreed with John Williams before they started? (Not that that makes it any better).
Titanic is still the worst in that regard for me. Most of the edits sound really really bad and jarring. One of the many reasons why the LLL release was so welcome .
Eh, can’t blame a guy for drowning out Giacchino. It should probably be done more often! 😜

What we already knew from the sheet music leak:
4M5 Map to Snow Scene is the original version of the cue for the Weasely twins showing Harry how the Marauders Map works, and then him sneaking into the Honeydukes basement. It opens with the harpsichord motif and is followed by a nice woodwind and string passage.
It was completely unused in the final film, replaced by a rewritten cue that is mostly an ethereal synth backing (like the cloak music from HP1), with the harpsichord motif and some bassoon riffs. This wasn't in the sheet music leak, which could potentially mean it was written and recorded really late in the process, as most things not included in the leak were late rewrites.
What we learned from the BMI database:
The revised cue is called "Up The Stairs"
Revealed via this radio show:
4M5 Map To Snow Scene was recorded, and Mike placed it right after 4M3+4 New Woods Walk and Birds Flight in the track called "Woods Walk and Birds Flight".
My personal commentary, not an official statement:
It works brilliantly there, as it's technically Williams' exact original intentions. Up The Stairs is not as interesting compositionally as Map To Snow Scene, and I'd guess Map To Snow Scene is the version he'd put on the OST if he wanted to put something from that section of the film there.
It's also fine to have both versions in the main program, as they don't really share any musical similarities despite both scoring the same scene.
As you can tell from listening, it's easy enough to carve out Map To Snow Scene and move it to a bonus track if you prefer.

Yes. We just need a source to vent our frustrations while biding our time until the box sets arrive. 😆
