I tried to ask Powell about the reference to Romantic Flight in Furies in Love, but he was playing coy. 😏

You cannot do that. I mean there is nothing preventing them from doing that but I have never heard of a case where the film was altered for the home release in any way. Sure they alter it for director's cut and all but for the home release, the film is basically as you see it in theaters.

Some special editions do tinker... like Star Wars changing some shots or E.T. changing the guns etc.

But it is usually considered very bad form to make changes and people usually have a negative reaction like they did to E.T. and Star Wars changes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story by John Powell with a theme by John Williams
"I'm gonna be a pilot. The best in the galaxy."
This quote from the film itself could easily be edited and the wonderful John Powell. "I'm gonna be a composer," he said. "The best in the galaxy!". I enjoyed Solo: A Star Wars Story's score very much, and revisiting it for the first time in a small while has been great fun. The sheer Powell Star Wars idea is so exciting; it was the film score highlight of the year for me. His style perfectly blended with Williams pre-existing SW material, not to mention a new JW concert suite, was so intriguingly fun! The brilliance of Corellia Chase and Meet Han, exploding with charisma and adventure, as well as the gravity of Spaceport and The Good Guy are all so wonderful. The bold and interesting new ideas for Enfys Nest, most notable in Marauders Arrive, is one of the highlights of the score. The love theme also is a splendidly romantic idea that swiftly sweeps through the orchestra. The gang theme has a certain honour and experience to it, adding a nice layer to that idea of the story. Chewie's theme is another wonderful addition. Powell scored with the themes, which was essential to making this score work. Not only did Powell nail his themes, he also uses Williams' to the fullest. Reminiscence Therapy is such a beautiful combination of each of their work. Such a great score!

P.S. Screw Disney for their lousy laziness on the FYC scenario.

    Which is the better film?
    VICTORY OF THE DALEKS

Who plays Winston Churchill (he wasn't Sir, until 1952) best?
    Ian McNeice

    Which is the better score?
Murray Gold (with just a soupçon of assistance, from David Arnold)

Actually, both Simon Ward, and Albert Finney played him very well.

Right guys, I thought I'd better give you a heads up on this, before one of you finds it and roasts me without me knowing...

One of my friends had the bright idea of doing a soundtrack review series on youtube a few days ago, and I kind of agreed to it. I didn't know he'd ask me to film it on that day, as soon as I arrived at his house, with no time to prepare lines or audio clips or anything...

As you can probably guess, I'm the one with (relative) taste in soundtracks, but as I'm a pretty shy and defensive person, I was a little more revering of my picks than I'd normally be, especially Rogue One, which I'd probably call "Mainly good" if I were asked now, but got a bit caught up in the heat of the moment.

And yes, some of the things I said were mistakes, as you'll likely pick up on (from memory, I accidentally called Jedi Steps & Finale the best cue of the 2000s, instead of the 2010s) but as it was all done on the fly, it's likely to be extremely crap. Having never really done any pieces to camera before, I know I'm rubbish, and haven't watched anything from it since it was filmed...

I hope you enjoy it but suspect you won't Please leave any feedback and/or insults below

The samples sound great. Even from those 30-second clips you can tell the franchise has evolved from something very cool into something even more wonderful. It would seem working on the oratorio and then with Williams last year really helped to create yet another jump in Powell's evolution as a composer. Absolutely cannot wait to hear the rest. And to watch the movie as well - I really enjoyed the first two.

Ehhh, I thought the VFX in Solo were really good, if a little dark. The Train Heist scene was visually perfect, and that must have been one hell of a VFX challenge.

Really not sure why Black Panther was nominated though, the entire final battle section looked really, really awful.

Yes! That's probably one of my favourite parts of the score and film, it just captures the wonder and mystery perfectly. It's reminiscent of something like The Eagles from Return of the King or the eagle music from An Unexpected Journey!

    I have seen the movie!

The movie first, i think it is good, better than the second one, surprisingly, but for a movie dubbed as the final chapter, the end result is quite anti climax and not that satisfying.

    Now the music,
    Woww,
First of all, the music is very decently mixed, rather well actually, and in many scenes, they do really stand out. There are a lot, a lot of highlights!!

Opened by a rather epic rendition of This is Berk, then it moves on to a new beautiful ( really Powelly) theme about "legacy?". That theme is my favourite. Then we are introduced to Light fury theme ( that snippett we have heard before), started with the Mating SequenceS music, and they are really really really beautiful ( different approach than the forbidden friendship though). And then there is the hidden world music and evil theme ( reminds me of duel of the fate somehow)

Second, and this is also one the most intriguing aspect of the music, is the choir!! Wow they are a lot, and they are epic.

One surprising concept taken is the music for the hidden world vista, it is surprisingly solemn,  subtle, really magical COMPLETE WITH ENYA-LIKE VOICES! before it climaxes into a full grandiose that reminds of JNH'Atlantis. Really beautiful.

Overall, i can say that it is better than the second one! And thats saying a lott

Really cant wait for the soundtrack!

I'm hoping that the film has a big "idea" for Williams to write a theme for (like how AotC had the love story and RoTs had "tragedy").  TLJ didn't really have any of that, mostly just disconnected plot threads and a couple of new (but pretty uninspiring) characters.

MM must have one of the best and worst jobs for any film score enthuasiast. It must be awesome discovering unreleased music, working with JW etc but I imagine he must be totally sick of Harry Potter by now! If it was me, the mere first few notes of Hedwig’s Theme would make me break into a cold sweat.
