The movie is actually titled The Empire Strikes Back.

What do you gain by making a post like this one, instead of just closing the thread if you don't care about it's subject, and reading a different thread instead?

I would speculate that there are things in your life you are passionate about that others would not understand, and you would not enjoy people making fun of you for them.

When assembling the 1980 OST LP, John Williams and his team chose the takes they wanted for the desired performance and final definitive edit of The Impoerial March presented on the LP and used on every album since.

The team working on the film decided to track some different takes than the album takes for the scene in question

The makers of the 1994 4CD box set didn't have space to include the different takes tracked into the film, and it surely wasn't a priority for the makers of the 1997 2CD set either.

And there has been no new albums of Empire music released since 1997, only re-issues of prior albums.

The mouse house is not the entity to blame for not being able to hear the film takes outside of the film itself.  No one is to blame, really.  The large majority of films released contain music in them that is not available on albums.

I don't think Disney is "holding it back."  They haven't done a new program of Star Wars music since they've owned the rights.  When the time comes, I'm sure all the film versions will be on the disc (although as others mentioned, I hope this one is stuck in the alternates in favor of Williams' original intentions).

He's talking about the music in the film itself, for when the Imperial Fleet is first shown in space after Han & Chewie destroy the probe.  The film drops Williams' intended cue (the cue first made available on the 1997 SE set as "Aboard The Executor"), and tracks in The Imperial March instead.  But more specifically, it doesn't track in the same takes that were used to assemble the album version of The Imperial March, they tracked in different takes with different instrumentation and such.

I hope that explains it for you.

It wasn't a mixing problem. As has been discussed here many times over the last two decades, someone accidentally left the DNR tool running too long, basically slowly shaving off the higher frequencies.

FYI that clip in the video you posted is actually from a documentary from the 80's. That footage isn't new, we've had it for decades. The original recording is likely lost to time.

They're withholding A LOT of music from the fans, and that version of Imperial march is pretty low on my list of things that need to get released

I believed that the original Imperial March (film version) was lost due to how old The Empire Strikes Back is and that we got bad album version due to someone remixing it badly but this video proves that the original version still exists and in good quality too (you can hear at 16:14 section that there are no tie fighters so the clean version does exist!)! If you can't hear the difference between this powerful and the best version imo from the crappy album one then I am sorry but yes they are different. I believe that someone at Disney or Lucasfilm intentionally holds back the best version possible of Imperial March from the fans.

Once again Disney delivers subpar trash quality soundtrack like they were recorded on a potato. Its 2020. 40 years since the release of The Empire Strikes Back and we still haven't got proper movie version of Imperial March released...On the other hand its quite possible that the Album version of the Imperial March is the same as the movie one but someone remixed it so badly that it lost all the cymbals, much of horns and other instruments that it sounds like an entirely different version... Also where is my Duel of the Fates but with Revenge of the Sith choir??? Disney is the worst company of all times.

Well, the Star Wars Trilogy Anthology release has a slightly different mix of The Imperial March compared to what's on the RCA/Sony releases. The percussion is slightly more buried and it actually sounds a little closer to what we hear in the clip above. But I'm pretty sure it's still the concert suite that was tracked into the film.
I originally thought you were referring to the difference between what's heard in the film and the original cue John Williams wrote for the scene, which is a much more aggressive rendition of the theme, featuring added brass layers not found in any other iteration of the theme throughout the score.

It's probably slightly sped up to better fit the sequence (after all, the piece was not composed for the scene)

It's fascinating when we start to analyze such things, to see the differences between the music heard in a movie vs. the music on an album.
For me it always been two different entities, like two different work of art, and therefore, that doesn't have to be identical.
@toni112007 Have you ever noticed the difference in the Finale from The Empire Strikes Back?

    Welcome to the boards!
The answer to your question is quite simple. After recording the film's score, someone decided to use the concert version of The Imperial March for this scene, replacing the original version that was written to picture (which you can find on the expanded release in the track The Imperial Probe/Aboard the Executor). The concert version opens disc 2 of the expanded soundtrack release and was first featured on the original soundtrack release back in 1980. It's basically the same stock version you've been hearing for the past 35 years.
It's but one example of many dropped or replaced cues in The Empire Strikes Back.
