Sadly, I've gotten to the point where I wouldn't mind seeing some franchises fail, because I think they're doing more harm than good in their current form. But I want this film to succeed. I don't have anything invested in Avatar, and am not a particularly big fan, but Cameron has clearly poured his heart and soul into this, not to mention a good chunk of his life, and I respect his passion. At least it's not an assembly line movie, ala Marvel, and for that reason, and its ambition alone, I wish Avatar well.

I decided to settle the argument with a conclusive proof that John Williams wrote the trailer music. I simply asked ChatGPT, the world's most knowledgeable AI chat bot:

UPDATE: After voicing my doubts to the chat bot regarding its last reply, it suddenly decided that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a non-existent film, and, thus, no trailer, let alone trailer music, exists for it:

I can post photos of the pages once my copy arrives (whenever that is; I haven’t heard anything from them since placing the order).

I’d scan the pages into a pdf, but that would mean creasing the pages and my OCD brain can’t countenance that.

I will boycott this movie because actors wearing a blue face is offensive and hurtful to the smurf community. It's also racist because they all have blue skin. Isn't there different skin colors of Na'vi on that planet that should have been included and represented? Furthermore I find it regrettable they didn't they take this opportunity to make the male Na'vi pregnant instead of the female.

Pop culture is truly plumbing new depths when the trailer music for the final installment of a decades-old, globally beloved franchise sounds absolutely no different than those silly, fan-made "updated" trailers for classic movies.

    Seriously, listen this bilge:

Then listen to the IJ DOD trailer:

Then tell me the music for both of these wasn't thrown together in GarageBand by some 14-yr-old kid. I dare ya.

You say you're well beyond 50, yet, by all accounts, you sound like you're 13 who was introduced to film music by video game soundtracks.

On the other hand, if your antics and instincts for quality indeed permeate the modern batch of movie production alumni, the new batch of abhorrent subversive movies and shows make absolute sense.

I think it's a more likely scenario that the trailer music was written by the reanimated corpse of Ludwig van Beethoven than that it was written by John Williams.  I also haven't watched the trailer though.

That last scene is pure Indiana jones. VFX are atrocious bug again, no judgement on that yet. I think there is a great deal of de-aging, not that it's badly done but there are also tons of shots without it so of course it's more visible. Overall the picture quality looks a bit cartoon-y for me but it could be fun

Also, I usually like trailer music, that one is just horrible.

There is no more "general public" for scores, so I don't know for who the OSTs are still intended... People don't buy CDs anymore and they don't listen to an album from the beginning to the end.

Put anything on Spotify, people will only listen to it if it gets in a playlist!

What really sucks about this movie under-performing in the theaters is that it's exactly the kind of movie that could find its audience when it hits streaming..... except its Universal so it'll go to Peacock....a streaming graveyard...

I'm really ready for Peacock, Paramount+, or both to fold already, it's inevitable that one of them will.

Just got out of the theater and I echo all the praise for this film. I tear easily at movies and this one jerked all the tears out of me, especially as the child of divorced parents.

The latter half of the movie, once they move to Santa Clara county, was spellbinding. Some of the vibes, such as in the scenes with the bullying or the prom breakup, were much like what I experienced, even if the details were completely different. But also the breezy feel of high school, with its cliques and  girls you crushed on and the general optimism at that age in your life—Spielberg is almost 80 and he captured that mood so fucking brilliantly; better than directors half his age could.

The David lynch cameo was pricelessly terrific and leads into the funniest and cleverest meta moment (one of at least two in the film) I’ve seen in a movie maybe ever.

Also, everyone can quit bitching about the amount of original score in this movie. It’s perfectly spotted and JW’s score is pitch perfect when seen in context.
