I thought this was the weakest (though good) sound editing of the saga.

I agree with that but I have a strong intuition that won't be nearly enough.

I am so glad he got his 50th nomination with this! This score has really grown on me over the past several weeks since it's release. I highly doubt they will give the Oscar to him but I really hope they do. To my ears it is more enjoyable than the hateful 8 or the Bridge of Spies. Admittedly I haven't heard Carol or Sicario. I could be wrong but I would like to think that if John Williams is on the fence about doing Episode 8 this could be just the thing needed to cause him to say yes. So happy about this

I didn't even know he was sick. This is very sad news

Because John Williams can do no wrong?

I thought General Grevious was a worse character than Jar Jar

Everything about this film terrifies me.

The Force Awakens The Force Awakens SPOILERS ALLOWED Discussion Thread

My take on the whole Kylo Ren thing, and this may have been previously discussed before but I have been contemplating it while listening to the score earlier today, is there was still hope for Kylo to turn back to the light side like Anakin did until he killed his own father. Anakin was able to be redeemed because he couldn't bring himself to kill his own son neither could he sit back and watch the Emperor do it. I think Kylo completely passed the point of no return when he killed his own father. So Leia telling Han that there was still good in him was true up until the moment he killed Han. There's no coming back from that. That's my take. Whether or not that supports or completely discards anything in the EU.....I don't think they care. Just my opinion. -
What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)

I also enjoy The Force Awakens score. I was a bit iffy on it when I first listened to it but it, much like the movie, has really grown on me. Apart from Star Wars I have found myself listening to Seven Years in Tibet a lot lately. I think it's a very underrated John Williams score. It is extremely rich in culture and emotion. The score by itself can truly transport you to another time and place. -
Though it probably won't happen I'd love to see Star Wars pass Avatar in the world wide box office. I never liked Avatar.

The ending bothers me a little bit. It feels tackd on just for the sake of it. I thought the map to Luke Skywalker was too easy and convenient. However I really like it as a whole. I also appreciate the score a lot more than when I first listened to it. -

A LOT better. I think the audience ruined my first experience. I missed a lot of important dialogue -

It worked for me. I understand the association but it worked for me. I couldn't help getting chills on my second viewing. -

That is interesting because I am sure they knew it was to be a big moment. I wonder if JJ always intended to put that part in or if they didn't like what John wrote -

This question may have already been addrressed but I have not seen it. Did they lay in the music from burning homestead into the new movie or did John Williams rerecord it? I was listening to it in my special edition cd yesterday and thought it may have been updated just a tad for force awakens. But I wasn't sure. Thought you guys would know. -

Saw the movie again tonight with a friend. It isn't perfect but I enjoyed it a WHOLE lot more than I did my first viewing. I missed half the important dialogue the first time due to loud people. -

I guess if I could sum up episode 7 in one word it would be: Unecessary. If I had to sum it up in a phrase it would be: The final nail in the coffin. -

Yeah I'm sure he did but I have no visual memory of it. Which is damning to this film. -

I agree with this but I also think this film demonstrates how great a filmmaker George Lucas was. Especially in terms of editorial. There were lots of goofy things in the prequels but Force Awakens felt very jumpy and badly crafted as a film. The wipes felt forced rather than organic. It felt like they were there wiping onto action rather than establishing shots in order to create a false sense of intensity in the first act of the movie. The final act when Rey and Kylo's scenes inercut with the xwing battle was the most glaringly obvious that JJ is not George Lucas. George could inercut from story line to story line and it seemed inevitable. When JJ cut to the dogfight sequences it had the effect of "Oh it's these guys again. What are they doing again?" I saw the film last night and I have already forgotten what it was exactly that blew up the trumped up death star. Was it an xwing? I can't remember and says it all. Also what was the plot of the film? What is the mission of the First Order? Find Luke? That's it? Snoke felt like a Marvel character. I can't believe I let myself get excited about this film. Given everything over the past several years I should have known better. I feel stupid. -

Just got back from having seen the movie. I'm tired and I'm going to bed. Word's can't describe how dissapointed I am in this. It made the prequels look good.
