I think I asked him about recording ideas before the concert, and he said he had no ideas. It's proabbly copyright nonsense no sensible human being cares about, but maybe he could use his Italian charm. I'm sure JW wouldn't mind us having the Milan concert.

I wonder whether @TownerFan sees ways of reaching out to Filarmonica della Scala re the one-off Milan concert to get the archival tapes to an indie publisher?

Likely that copy-right issues are the main hurdle.

I'm really excited to try your alternate OST program suggestion. But I want to take things further still: I'm going to insert the Boston Pops concert arrangements in it.

And for an ever shorter experience, I came across a South Korean LP of Hook that omitted two tracks to accommodate the OST on a single LP: 'Remembering Childhood' and 'The Ultimate War.'

Well that's what Disc 3 is.  You can listen to that (specifically tracks 1-21; the last 3 tracks are bonus tracks) as your short program.

11 of the OST album's 17 tracks are here exactly, and the other 6 can be easily approximated, yes.

(Really, if a modern rebuild of the OST album from 1st generation elements if what you're after, that was released by Mondo in 2021 on vinyl.  Hopefully Sony Music replaces the old master with this rebuild on digital platforms at some point)

But, to use this set to approximate the OST album, it's easy:

OST LLL 1 Prologue 1:31 2-11 Hook Prologue 1:25 2 We Don't Wanna Grow Up 1:50 3-01 We Don't Wanna Grow Up 1:52 3 Banning Back Home 2:22 2-12 Banning Back Home (Extended Version) 4:24 4 Granny Wendy 2:57 1-10 Forgotten How To Fly 0:56

Most live albums used to be collated from various performances on one, or more, tours.
It was rare that a single entire concert was released.
Nowadays, all sorts of concerts are recorded and filmed for release.
Entire box sets are dedicated to a band's entire output from a particular era (case in point: King Crimson).
At least FLASHPOINT sounds better than STILL LIFE

But this is what I don't understand. Flashpoint, as an album, is great. But we can't have a second disc that contains those B-sides, and thereby covering everything. Meanwhile, Steel Wheels 2000 seems to favour different performances, which I don't want. Straightforward releases would be heaven.

Wikipedia lists that under "The following songs were recorded during the same set of concerts and later released as B-sides". The album is compiled from two (!) concert tours, so while the album is pretty much maxed out for a single CD release at 76 minutes, there's bound to be lots of stuff from the tours that wasn't included, even if it was released separately. As Fart mentioned, your best bet for getting more of those is probably one of the full live concert releases - they have tons of those, so many that it's become hard to keep track, but they're usually (? or at least often, I've lost track) worth it. My father had the Four Flicks DVD box that contains four separate full concerts, all from the same tour, and while there's naturally lots of overlap between them content-wise, they're still worth having.

As for Flashpoint, the list of separately released tracks also includes Gimme Shelter, presumably with Lisa Fischer (she's listed on the album for backing vocals), and those are usually outstanding. Several full concert releases include the song with Fischer (and I'm lucky to have caught one myself in Vienna back in 2014), but I'm not sure now if there's one on CD?

FLASHPOINT is a live album. It documents (in part) the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tour.
The full concert can be found on STEEL WHEELS LIVE, released in 2000.

Not insensitive at all, but I'm not quite sure how to answer it.

Do you mean, how do I watch them? Well, in this case I'd just be enjoying the surround version as opposed to the stereo mix, provided they've invented better hearing aids by that time since my right eardrum had to go and become all funny and healing is not something it wants to.

Or do you mean, why would I want to watch them with someone? Maybe to ask their opinion on what they see or the occasional description of what they see. Or because I'm guessing it would be more exciting for them to watch instead of just listen.

    Does that answer your question?

Agreed but I have to admit that even just playing stereo recordings though a surround sound setup gives a bit of depth to the sound field even if it’s not a true 3D space.

I need to get the Vienna and Berlin Blu-rays first, before I attempt getting this.

Since no further info seemed to be popping up, I emailed DG about their plans for this release. I was beginning to wonder if the Blu-ray set would be a Japanese exclusive, with nothing else coming.

Weirdly, their first reply said that it was indeed an exclusive Japanese release, and they only had a digital release planned for elsewhere. But then when I followed up with a quote from their press release the next reply (from a different member of staff) said that physical releases are indeed coming for the international market.

Slight panic, followed by some sort of comfort, but with a lingering taste of concern
