This surely is gonna be somewhat fixed in the complete score but i kinda have started feeling a little pessimistic about the fulfillment of the complete score. If there were major new themes, they probably would've been represented in the FYC, which is the purpose of the album, otherwise who would prefer underscore to thematically well written new cues?

^This. I am dearly, dearly hoping that are more awesome themes or cues not represented on the FYC, but on the other hand I can't help but feel pessimistic - why would the best new cues be left off the FYC?

  2. To expand on my earlier remarks after listening several more times: I do agree with those who have said that this album is massively underwhelming. Great themes appear once or twice and then disappear, and it's hard to spot any sort of real thematic arc. Most of it sounds quite dark, and sounds absolutely nothing like I would have expected a grand finale film score to sound. There is almost (almost) no sense of finality or closure.

That said, there are some really, really terrific moments here which showcase once again how John is an absolute master of his craft. I mentioned some of them earlier, so I won't repeat myself now. But I'll just say that I'm at once very, very pleased with some of what I've heard but also desperately hoping (like Loert & KM) that this FYC is a highly incomplete presentation of the score -- even though part of me is also preparing to be disappointed. *sigh* :)

  3. Saw this again yesterday! (My school's choir was performing this time, so I wanted to go!)

Gosh, I'd forgotten how awesome JW's "Listening to Carson" extension to end the first act is. Pure JW fanfaric awesomeness. I desperately want to hear it again... Maybe someone will manage to make a phone recording at some point.

I doubt it's in-house stuff. They likely bought it from a stock music company, as they usually do for these adverts.

Then again, the second video was obviously either JW or in-house/specially commissioned, since it used a new variation of "Jedi Steps." My best guess on that one was rejected trailer cue by the guy who did the TROS trailer.

  5. Okay, so I've been listening to "Scheherazade" recently after a friend recommended it. Several parts sound very similar to some piece(s) by John Powell, but I can't quite remember which one(s). E.g.:

Maybe this is what I'm thinking of, but I feel like there's got to be something closer:

@Loert, any ideas? (Or maybe I am the only one who hears similarity from Powell to Rimsky-Korsakov)
