  1. Well, I don't know about others my age but I certainly was introduced to Dahl at a young age (in the 2000s) and read many of his books. I actually have a collection of about ten sitting on my bookshelf right now. (Most have not been read for years, but I did pull out The BFG last week and I read it a second time, the first being at least a few years ago, in preparation for the film). Darn. I like Spielberg.
  2. I too was hoping to have my first complete listen be on the CD, but alas mine apparently will not arrive until Tuesday so I decided not to wait and just go the digital route.
  3. I'm wondering if you would know the answer to a question that's been bugging me for a while: How is the sound mix for a film in a live to projection concert constructed? I assume it's not as simple as just removing the music, because the dialogue and effects wouldn't be clean, right? Do they go back to the original dialogue and effects elements and reconstruct the mix? That seems like it would be a nearly impossible task.
  4. I do want to point out that it may well have been Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm people who called for the Rogue One reshoots, not their big bosses at Disney. We don't really know; there are so many conflicting reports. But your point stands: there are probably going to be some executives, whether inside Lucasfilm or even higher up at Disney headquarters, who want certain things done and the director will have to obey.
  5. Just finished my first OST listen. I watched the film yesterday so I will offer some thoughts and info on the score. I may reiterate some things Jason LeBlanc has said already. I don't know if anyone cares too much about spoilers with this given that the book with most of the plot has been out since the 80s, but just in case I have put my comments in spoiler tags since I do discuss some plot details including those from the end of the film: And last but not least, I have evidence to prove that this score is accessible to non-film music fans: After seeing the film, my sister told me there was a moment in the score she wanted me to find on the album. I searched for a while and eventually she said, "That's the one." It was the waltz in "To Giant Country."
  6. I'll be seeing/hearing Raiders live to projection this afternoon, performed by the Chicago Symphony. Really excited -- with this concert and The BFG's release, this is a quintessential Williams weekend -- although I am bracing for all the people who annoyingly cheer wildly while the music is still playing.
  7. I did see the film yesterday, but unfortunately I had a pretty bad headache afterward (possibly from the 3D) so I had to just rest. This evening I will give the full OST a first listen and then post what things I can remember about the music in the film. Well, for starters, I noticed during the end credits that there was no credit for orchestration (assuming I didn't miss it). So it seems that Williams did all the orchestrations himself.
  8. I'm leaving now to see the film. Haven't listened to the OST (other than samples) so I don't know how much score analysis I'll be able to do.
  9. I love "You Have an Owner?" So emotional. I'm about halfway through the OST and that and "Meet the Pets" are probably my two favorite cues. Wow! I haven't heard many of his scores, so I can't really compare this like you can, but I can say that it is fantastic. I really hope I can see this film to see how the score works in context (fabulously, I'd think).
  10. I'm about a quarter of the way through the album and I love this score! Awesome jazz. The presumed main theme heard in the first track does indeed seem to be the main theme. It's heard in several other tracks, too. I haven't identified any other themes yet, but I might be missing some. Great way to pass the time while forcing myself not to listen to the BFG until I see it this afternoon.
  11. I just read the book this week. There isn't really a drawn-out "finale action set piece" in the book. Book spoilers: That's it. I could definitely see how that giant-catching moment could fit only into "Giants Netted." Obviously they could have changed it for the movie, though. I guess we'll see.
  12. @Jay Well, Jay, in any case you don't have to speculate too much longer.
  13. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=11665522 About Spielberg's work on Ready Player One:
  14. Haven't seen the video and don't plan to, but the song was okay in the trailer.
  15. Good. I thought I might be the first here to see it, and would therefore be obligated to write a lengthy post about unreleased music. Now I'm off the hook.
  16. So I guess we don't know what pieces Williams will conduct yet? You would think he would conduct all three of his compositions. But I seem to remember that a couple years ago he was scheduled to conduct a couple things at Parade, and there was also a concert work of his that someone else was scheduled to conduct earlier in the program.
  17. I let myself listen to "Overture," which was terrific, but that's it. Must not listen to any more...Must not listen... ----- Early reviews say this score is nothing special. But after TFA, I'm not too worried about that fact.
  18. I too believe that deleted scene is the only place to date that we have heard that particular Ren's theme statement. I feel pretty confident that the first part of the deleted scene music (the part with Ren inside the Falcon) was intended for that scene. The few seconds at the end (when Ren steps outside) that are also heard in FYC "The Bombing Run"? Hard to say.
  19. I preordered the OST last week, but Amazon.com says mine hasn't even shipped yet.
  20. Tintin was a really fun movie and great score, so I hope this sequel gets made, Spielberg is involved (apparently he would be producing, not directing, this time) and Williams scores it. You have to wonder if Williams will be able to find the time, though. RPO, SW8, and Indy 5 are basically confirmed, and I'm sure he will do the other films Spielberg directs if he can (KOEM and possibly others including It's What I Do) so he will have a pretty full slate considering his age and his pencil-and-paper composing technique. I hope he can do Tintin 2, but it's no sure thing.
  21. Sounds cool. But I'm not gonna listen to these. I couldn't help listening to the first batch of samples, but now it's so close to release I'm going to force myself to wait.
  22. Here's the West Side Story melody that Desplat's Pets theme sounds very similar to:
  23. Possibly, given that a non-US Amazon site said before release that there would be cantina music on the OST.
  24. @Lockdown Is the "Find BB-8" bit that you mention identical to the first cue heard in the OST track "Rey Meets BB-8"?
