  1. I actually enjoy that kind of "easy to dance to" action music. Another example of Giacchino using this style, one I love: the fun, catchy motif heard from :39-:45
  2. I think I might remember reading that the banquet scene of this movie is the one with the "whizzpoppers." So if that's the case it might end up being scored comedically rather than with pomp. It will be short. Williams said "a couple minutes" in the Variety interview. Back To The Future Star Trek: The Motion Picture Man of Steel Batman v Superman
  3. For me 1:32 is the best part of this cue. Those brass chords!
  4. Harrison Ford, rockin' that "I don't have access to a razor" look at the Dolby!
  5. This article is great, Burlingame actually knows what he's talking about, unlike that LA Times Swed guy. That's cool that Williams goes to Tanglewood even if he's not conducting. Shows how much he loves the place.
  6. Oh great... --------- This project sounds like it will make for some really unique stuff! Yeah, it would be cool to see Williams give himself a late-career challenge to go out of his "comfort zone." I'm not generally a fan of all-electronic music but I think John Williams could take any style and make something terrific out of it!
  7. Wow, this is gonna be great, Spielberg, Ford, Williams, getting the old gang back together!
  8. Change of plans: I'm not actually going to write a TFA complete score analysis as I had previously announced. Well, I started writing a page or two, but this score is just so extraordinarily long and complex. It was an exciting project, but at the same time a very daunting one. Rather than having this massive project hanging over my head, I think I'll just continue enjoying the score. I will continue analyzing the score as I have been, but I won't be writing down everything I find as I had hoped to.
  9. It seems that the game's late release date may not have worked in our favor. If the game is released around the same time as the film (even a couple months after) the film OST has probably not been assembled yet when they are adding music to the game, so the game makers are probably just handed the recording sessions. But perhaps due to this game being released half a year after the TFA film, when they were adding music to the game maybe they just got the OST to work from because that had already been assembled. This is just speculation, of course. We shouldn't entirely lose hope, though. We've only seen three scenes, it's possible that others have previously unreleased stuff, or maybe the menus will have it. We can hope!
  10. Okay, so I've watched some gameplay on YouTube and here's the deal (the game doesn't come out until later this month but IGN got exclusive gameplay first-looks): - In the three scenes of gameplay I saw (amounting to about 19 minutes total), ALL of the music heard was Star Wars music by John Williams. I did not hear any music written specifically for the game. It was all excerpts from Williams' Star Wars scores. - In two of the three scenes (the Jakku village attack and the rathtar chase) the music was from TFA. In each of these two scenes of gameplay, the music heard was from the score for the corresponding TFA film scene. In the other scene (Finn and Poe escape in TIE fighter), the music was from ANH (Battle of Yavin, I think). This was a bit bizarre -- I was expecting "I Can Fly Anything." - I believe that NONE of the music heard was previously unreleased stuff. - Unfortunately (I don't know if this is how all games do their music) the way this game is scored for the most part is by taking a very short clips of Williams music (literally, just a few seconds long), having a few seconds with no music, then another very short bit, etc. And often there're certain bits that are repeated over and over again -- there's really not much variety. Basically, I never heard any complete cues in the gameplay. - Notably, what I saw consisted only of actual gameplay; there were NO loading screens, home screens, etc. It seems that if we want complete cues as opposed to just little bits and pieces, those loading/home screens are our best chance of finding it. And hopefully those cues are previously unreleased! Here are the gameplay videos if you want to watch/hear for yourself. There's someone doing commentary so it's often very hard to hear the music:
  11. Question: In the Star Wars galaxy, by the Battle of Endor, people (meaning the general public in the fictional Star Wars galaxy) know that Luke and Leia are brother and sister, right? But who do they think the parents are? Do they know Vader is the father (perhaps because Luke is a Skywalker just like Anakin?) (Star Wars Bloodline novel spoilers below.) (again, I'm not referring to people in the real world, I'm talking about the fictional people in Star Wars and what they would have known about Luke and Leia)
  12. That cover seems to imply that Williams did the majority of the conducting and perhaps even all!!
  13. First of all, I do think the moderators should move this to General Discussion. Secondly, nice work! I'm no musical expert so I can't offer you any helpful commentary, but I genuinely enjoyed listening to the parts I heard. (It's getting late so I only listened to a couple bits, I'll listen to the rest in the morning).
  14. The cue "Escape Now, Hug Later" from TFA (yes, the whole thing, it's only 14 seconds long!) Wonderfully heroic and victorious, it's been stuck in my head tonight.
  15. Thank you for your detailed breakdown! I'm a little unclear on what the sentence I quoted means, though. Could you clarify?
  16. I'm transitioning to my new speaker as my primary listening device. The dark ages are almost over!
  17. Not an audiophile, so I usually listen with laptop speakers or ear buds. But yesterday as a gift I received a cylindrical speaker (can't remember the brand at the moment). It's pretty small, but that means it's very portable, and it's definitely a step up in sound quality from previous devices. It's amazing how what speaker you use can cause you to hear all sorts of orchestral detail not audible before.
  18. Could you be more specific about the times in the OST and FYC versions of "Village Attack" where you hear various cues begin and end, where you hear inserts, microedits, etc.? Also, how would you define an insert? I'm still a little unclear on what that is.
  19. So the timing of all the scenes is set when "picture locks"?
  20. Some interesting info from the EW article (http://www.ew.com/article/2016/06/03/rogue-one-reshoots) recently posted here. I assume by "scoring" they mean the recording sessions will begin in September. What exactly does it mean to "lock picture"? I looked online a bit but I'm still not entirely clear on what that term means.
  21. Bruce Broughton's Silverado main theme, as well as his Miracle on 34th Street main title.
