Well, I watched the relevant part of the STID opening just now, and here's the interesting thing: the Courage theme is heard both on the OST and deluxe edition in the track "Sub Prime Directive," which contains part of the score for the opening sequence. Listen here:
But that theme is NOT heard in the final film. At 7:48 in the following video, we should hear it if the final film's score exactly matched that of the album. But we don't. There is silence until 8:03, where music begins again, although for a few seconds this music is NOT exactly the same as the music heard on the album right after the Courage theme statement (meaning that something more than a simple dialing-out of the Courage theme is going on here). Then they become identical until the end of the opening sequence (when the words "Star Trek Into Darkness" appear).

This film will premiere on July 20 at San Diego Comic Con with a live-to-projection performance of Giacchino's score by the San Diego Symphony! How many films have premiered this way? This sounds awesome!

Giacchino did include a very short quote of Courage's theme in his Into Darkness opening sequence score.

Absolutely, it's an incredible melody! It has that inevitable feel to it that many of the best themes have. The renditions at the start of the cue Finn and Poe, United and in Informants are terrific.

I was visiting Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia today and I watched the changing of the guards ceremony. A band played an excellent, precise rendition of the US national anthem. (All in all it was a powerful and beautiful experience to be at the cemetery.) One of their drums said US army band, but I think there are multiple army bands. Does anyone know which this was? Do you know more facts, like do the players participate in combat at some point? Could this have been the band that did the TFA performances?

Jurassic (coming June) is terrific, but what I'm really excited for is the Disney stuff, which is available starting in September. It does indeed include Lucasfilm, Marvel, Pixar, etc. I believe I read somewhere that all Disney films released after Jan 2016 will be available (although I could be wrong). So it seems BFG and Rogue One will be on Netflix soon!

Well, it makes sense. Why would Williams choose Giacchino's STID opening? I think he's said in interviews that he doesn't really listen to modern scores by others.

On the cue "BB-8 Meets Rey," Williams basically said that it was a simple scene, but not so simple to score, so he wrote two or three different versions of the cue, trying both lighter and darker approaches. This, I think, lends some credence to my theory that this - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxQSwI5aPja9ZG41dVRqaVlhLWs/view?pref=2&pli=1 - is an unused version of the "BB-8 Meets Rey" cue. Although that's still just speculation.
The interview left it unclear whether Williams programmed Lockhart's part of the concert. Does anybody here know whether Wiliams typically programs the whole thing or just the part he conducts?

First TV spot. Like the trailers, there is NOT any Williams music. This spot's not nearly as good as the trailers because it has a cheesy voice-over.

I was just listening to it again about half an hour ago. The whole piece is terrific, but particularly the energetic string portion is just so good. It has this terrific sense of excitement to it.

I was watching ET tonight and I noticed heavy similarities between some of the mid-film ET-and-Elliot bonding music and the mellow cue that some think isn't Williams. Possibly evidence that it is Williams?

I edited my above post to try to clarify what I meant. What I meant is the AI bit specifically sounded very similar to one of the BFG main themes, just for a few seconds.
Specifically, 11:19 of the AI YouTube clip corresponds to 0:44 of loert's piano playing of the BFG score found here:
Maybe I am the only one hearing the similarity? It's not the exact same, but I hear a definite similarity.

I'm not sure how many more Episode 8 spoilers I will read, but basically the cool thing about spoilers is that you hear about a scene that sounds really awesome and then you imagine how it will be realized on screen, and in a lot of ways it builds the anticipation for the film's release. Then when it's finally released, you go, "Oh, I remember reading the description of this scene, it's terrific to finally see it on screen!"

I become a hard-core JW fan within the last year or so, so I'm still discovering new pieces of his music. I've noticed that, quite often, I find a piece forgettable and mediocre the first time I hear it, but by the second or third listen I have it stuck in my head. This actually happened yesterday and today with "Jubilee 350." I had heard it for the first time a few months ago, didn't think it was worth another listen. Yesterday I gave it another try. I thought it was pretty good after that second listen. Today I listened again. After that it was stuck in my head for a while, and I listened several more times. I now love the piece.
That's just one example among many. There's also the "Liberty Fanfare," "Call of the Champions," and the "Song for the World Peace," to name a few. I now consider all three of those masterpieces. And I know there are more than that, but I can't call them to mind at this moment.
I've been wondering, does anyone else have this happen, what you might call "second-listen enlightenment" for some JW pieces? Does this happen often for you?
