I never understood why JW always replaces specialty instruments with traditional ones in his signature edition. Say what you will about making it more accessible, but Far and Away needs to open with a penny whistle.
Need to ask Sarah Willis MBE to blow the hornpipe instead...

Just seen that Paddy Maloney, founder of The Chieftans, has passed away. Williams’s inclusion of Far and Away in the programme will ring a little differently now. I do hope he’ll discuss his collaboration with Moloney a little, in tribute to the great musician who elevated a wonderful score.
Can we expect any ethnic instruments (Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, bodhran, etc.) to be included in Berlin?
Will we be getting an array of Aida trumpets plus organ for the Olympic Fanfare?

Given the COVID circumstances, we are quite lucky that the program is not shorter and without an interval.
I'm just wondering whether there will be CD/vinyl/Bluray releases if the recording streams 30 days after the performance and is deposited in the digital concert hall archive.

3G plus FFP2 mask throughout...
Visiting information | Berliner Philharmoniker (berliner-philharmoniker.de)
To be admitted to our concerts, you will need the following documents – digitally or, if you prefer, as a printout:
- Your ticket.
-
Your negative test result from the day of the event for an infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (rapid antigen test or PCR test).
- or proof of complete Covid 19 vaccination with a vaccine approved by the European Union (the last vaccination must have been given at least 14 days ago).
- orproof of your recovery (positive PCR test result at least 28 days but no more than six months ago or, in the case of a more recent infection, in conjunction with at least one vaccination against Covid-19).
- Your photo ID
Please note our current hygiene regulations as well as the detailed questions and answers about attending the concert. Visitors who do not comply with the requirements may be removed from the event. In such cases, there is no entitlement to a refund of the ticket price.
Our concerts take place subject to the respective authorisation. Should changes to the schedule, such as concert cancellations, be necessary due to other instructions from the Senate, we will of course refund the tickets purchased.
How do I get a test appointment?
You are responsible for booking an appointment yourself. We advise you to make an appointment at your preferred test centre as early as possible, as there is limited capacity at any one time. You will find all test centres certified by the state of Berlin at test-to-go.berlin.
Can I also present a home test result?
Results from non-certified test centres or other test results (such as home tests) will not be accepted for admission. You will find all test centres certified by the state of Berlin at test-to-go.berlin.
Do I have to wear a mask during the concert? What kind of masks are accepted?
Despite the requirement that every concert guest has a negative test result or is fully vaccinated or recovered, our hygiene and safety measures apply. For this reason, FFP2 masks are mandatory during the entire stay at the Philharmonie Berlin for your protection and that of other guests. Please remember to bring your own mouth and nose covering, and note that only FFP2 masks without a valve are acceptable. A medical certificate does not exempt you from the mandatory wearing of masks.

Let Johnny have his privacy. We are lucky he is even doing this at his age. Also we are living in a difficult time with covid, and he is 89 years old....
May the Force be with him!

for all who are attending the concert: maybe it has been posted before but the rules/information keep changing from time to time. So make sure you've had a look (tests, masks, etc.)

Thanks!
Noted that it has to be an FFP2 mask (currently nothing else allowed).

At least as old as JW!
It's just not a very fun symphony.
Maybe there is too much making fun of Brahms in the last movement...
It's like showing Brahms the middle finger.
-
That said, have VPO ever performed Hans Rott's Symphony No. 1 (a symphony which was not accepted by the Vienese establishment, including Johannes Brahms)?
I don't think so.

I'm so excited because of the orchestra too, especially the string section. If I recall what Karajan got out of them, I'm 100% sure we're in for something great.
They seem to be in excellent condition:

Stars Wars is not the benchmark for an orchestra.
But Star Wars was a benchmark in the genesis of JW's oevre, leading to a renaisance of full orchestral film music.

Maybe it is. Why is Rattle gone to Munich ? Perhaps the LSO is not in the best shape. After Brexit and Corona not many say they have Financial Problems. They promised Rattle that he get a new concert Hall. But nothings works. The sound of the Barbarian hall is one of the worst in the world.
Well at least they are still heavily into Star Wars...

Oh ok, thanks. The Abbado and Berlin looks interesting.
The ranking is over ten years old. I think there are some changes at the Moment. I have seen in Boston is Andris Nelsons. He is a really good young conductor. LSO i don´t like. Rattle will go away in the next years.
"LSO I don't like." That is rather a harsh statement on a JW fan portal.

Wow how many tickets available…
is it customary that at open day they only released a portion of the seats and now they are selling the rest?
buy i dont understand the isolated ones that appeared randomly…
This somehow looks organised as there are mostly high-priced tickets. But good to see that there are still possibilities for opportunists.
A luxury problem really. But only as long as JW shows up in person.

Why so many?
By the way, JW is not receiving the Opus Klassik Life Achievement Award on Oktober 10. He needs to perform with the Berliners first. ;-)
