Listening to the soundtrack a 3rd time thru, it has some faults, and I wish Indy's theme featured more, but it does not sound like a copy and paste score to me. The callbacks are fun, and the brief snippets of lifts don't bother me. The soundtrack has plenty of original themes and Helena's theme really shines throughout.

Last Night I dreamed about John Williams...

I've dreamed about JW before. It was something very mundane like him working at the piano or something. -
Why is a large part of the Battle of Yavin not scored?
artguy360 replied to Score's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I really like how the Battle of Yavin is spotted and scored. It's all very effective. SW didn't use to be wall to wall music. -
I think I've shared this thought before, but Mother and Son is the best track on the album. The guitar is so tender, it could make me cry. Lately, listening to it has made me think of Cat Steven's Father and Son.

First Clip from Indy 5 with new John Williams action music

For me, it's not just downers, it's blatant jumping to conclusions with little to no evidence. -
First Clip from Indy 5 with new John Williams action music

Sounds like standard JW comedic action music. Not my preferred JW mode, but I'm sure it will be fun. I just hope it isn't too chopped up in the edit. Sounded good and synced to specific hits. -
That was nice.

The Definitive John Williams Plagiarism/Homage Thread

I totally agree. I think JW takes classical inspirations and makes the music speak more directly with a kind of immediacy that the classical inspirations often lack. -
Williams debuts "Helena's Theme" from Indiana Jones 5 at the Hollywood Bowl
artguy360 replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Relatively few actors have had the experience of John Williams writing a theme for their character. It must be incredible, like Daisy R. and Rey's Theme or Ford and Indy's theme. The actress who plays Helena was asked about this in an interview: https://www.gamesradar.com/indiana-jones-dial-of-destiny-phoebe-waller-bridge-mysterious-helena/ -
Did we expect anything different?

What are your favorite JW brass chorale moments?
artguy360 replied to artguy360's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I love Hogwarts Forever. Instantly imbues the castle with history and a sense of academia. -
One JW signature is his use of brass chorale, especially towards the end of scores, for moments of maximum emotion, sometimes as a kind of "summing it all up" conclusive theme statement. That said, what are your favorite JW brass chorale moments? Listening to The Patriot soundtrack, while not my favorite, this brief brass moment really hit me at 5:24. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) - film and score (Brian Tyler)
artguy360 replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
I saw the movie yesterday and have been listening to the OST since Friday. The score works well in the film, but I don't care much for the original music aside from the main original Mario theme which fits very well along side the existing Mario music. Hearing the video game themes integrated into the score is the best part of the music. The licensed songs are not interesting to me at all. Overall, a very fun soundtrack where the video game themes far outshine the original score. -

I'm going on Saturday with my family. The movie looks like a joyous celebration of all things Mario, and that's all I want from a Mario movie.
