Steve H got a reaction from Tom Guernsey in Jerry Goldsmith's THE CHAIRMAN (1969) - 2025 Intrada Kickstarter
Alex's Death is very First Blood, Rambo, like. with the Bajo Fuego guitar moments weaved in. Maybe Goldsmith left it of the album for that reason. But it is a great cue and a great pairing for the Rambo II End Titles.

Comparing the track you mentioned in both titles and there’s a 7 second difference. Hopefully they fixed the issue you mentioned

Steve H got a reaction from Jfallon in Jerry Goldsmith's FIRST BLOOD (1982) - NEW! 2025 Intrada 2-CD edition
I'm hoping the brass sustain in Hanging On (when Rambo realises he is stuck between the cliff and the dogs) has been extended out to match the film. It's only a minor issue and a few more fleeting seconds but it flows way more naturally than the abrupt edit in all previous versions.

Steve H reacted to Jay in Jerry Goldsmith's FIRST BLOOD (1982) - NEW! 2025 Intrada 2-CD edition
Jerry arranged a 12-track, 40 minute program of highlights in 1982 for the original soundtrack album, which Intrada put out on the CD format in 1988.
In 2010, Intrada released a 2-CD expanded version, with a new 19-track complete score presentation on disc 1, and the original OST album and 3 bonus tracks on disc 2. This has been sold out for quite a while now, though it is streaming digitally by Studio Canal
In 2022, Quartet released a box set of all 3 Rambo scores on the vinyl format only. First Blood in that collection was an all-new 20-track complete program, produced, edited and sequenced by Neil S. Bulk, with mastering by Chris Malone.
It is logical to guess that this new 2-CD edition could include this new Bulk/Malone program, or a variation of it.
Someone on FSM posted that the 2010 edition presented the music at an incorrect speed, though I have no idea if that's true or not. I'm sure that the 2022 edition has no speed issues, though I haven't heard it myself. Not many people have, only 1,000 copies were pressed and the box set sold for 125,00€

Steve H got a reaction from ThePenitentMan1 in Return of the Jedi: Double LP
Something would have to go. Maybe Brother And Sister on side 2? My choice would be to lose Lapti Nek, but we all know that was always going to be on the album.

I LOVE your side openings and closings. It felt right away like ESB. Alliance Assembly is a fascinating penultimate track. (And also the only track from the 1997 discs, right?)

Maybe that segue was made after it was decided the OST was to be a single LP?
It's Interesting speculation.

Here's my take on Jaws with a nod to the Decca release cover which I always liked.
Jaws 2. in the style of the original Jaws album

Steve H reacted to Quppa in The Patriot (Intrada) 3CD Set
Available at Screen Archives Entertainment for pre-order ('late January') as well. Ordered along with Out of Africa and the John Barry Polydor Years set (the latter two are out-of-stock on Intrada's website).
Once again the value of the Australian peso is making this an expensive hobby

I have been revisiting this score since the Intrada announcment. Have to say its not one I have repeatedly listen too in the past but I always remembered Williams' Colonial theme. One of those brassy Williams earworms that brings a smile to your face. Anyway after re-listening I am pleasantly suprised how melodic and thematically rewarding the score is.
Looking forward to the Intrada edition.

Wow, that cue @2.00 in A Matter of Life and Death sounds like The Ambassador from The Final Conflict!.

Much better than Varese's 'nip slip' cover

Steve H reacted to ThePenitentMan1 in JAWS - 2015 Intrada 2CD Release (Complete film tracks & original LP re-recording)
Okay, I've finally found a YouTube video to demonstrate each take of Man Against Beast.
The incorrect Decca take:
The correct film take:
And a direct comparison of the two at the key point of comparison (Film Left, Decca Right):
Man Against Beast Wrong Take.mp3
(I am currently trawling through the previous pages of the thread to see if this exact information had already been shared before)
EDIT: Well, well, well:
That's more info than I was expecting to find!

The flubbed note isn't in the original mono mix of the film from 1975, only the 5.1 mix from 2000

Steve H reacted to Brando in JAWS - 2015 Intrada 2CD Release (Complete film tracks & original LP re-recording)
From this interview:
You explain in the booklet how the version of “Man Against Beast” used in the 2000 5.1 mix and Decca CD was a different take than what was used in the 1975 mono mix, due to the degradation of the source tape for that take. Can you elaborate on the particular difficulties of restoring this track and what techniques had to be used to fix it?
On the take used on the Decca release and in the 5.1 mix of the film, the woodwinds miss their entrance and throw off the French horn players. There was no other good take to use so they went with that one, but it sabotages an extremely important moment in the movie, when Quint actually sees the shark for the first time. I was determined to restore the correct performance, but all I’ll say is that I’d bet any audio engineer would look at the problem and say that it couldn’t be fixed. It was the ultimate challenge but I’m going to keep the tricks up my magician’s sleeve on it.

Thanks for the reply. That explains it. More reason to hang on to the Decca release.

Steve H reacted to Display Name in NEW FSM Release: Coma-Westworld-The Carey Treatment!
This was brought up at the FSM forum already, when the set came out. Lucas Kendall replied that the synths were not included in the sources they had to create the complete presentation. If you listen to it carefully enough in the film, you may hear that the part was posthumously edited into the track. There are two bad cutoffs in the music.
I love that synth effect so much, that I have recreated a lossless version WITH the synth, however, WITHOUT the cutoffs:
12 Study in Anatomy (with aditional synth).WAV
You're welcome.
