  1. I loved the episode. Reminded me of something out of the Tom Baker era, actually, though the Doctors actions were more McCoy than anything. This season really feels like Classic Who more than any of the previous seasons, and I am really appreciating. Its too bad that so many seemed to not like the episode, I thought it was spooky and eerie, and had a nice metaphor with the dragon egg.
  2. Trust me, you're not missing anything. They aired it between episodes, right before Ozymandias. It was like torture for me and my brother waiting for the episode to start.
  3. They've been hinting at this for months. Sony is getting diminishing returns with the web head, and Marvel wants control of all their characters, one way or another (see them canceling the Fantastic 4 comic and barring creation of any new X-Men). I can totally see Garfield pop up during Avengers at some point and help the gang. It'll be a great moment for comic fans, and would probably renew interest in future Spidey movies.
  4. Well, considering Thanos will likely be the villain for the film, I can see the first film ending with the Guardians showing up to Earth and joining up with the Avengers. They likely were probably only to have a cameo in the film originally, but after the huge success might have reevaluated their level of involvement.
  5. Hope they choose Brit Marling. She's quite a good actress (she also a good writer) and it'll be nice to see her in something high profile. Though considering she's in contention with Jessica Biel of all people, makes me think they really want eye candy for this role.
  6. Well, my oldest memory is of Han running away from the bunker in Return of the Jedi so I guess that would be it.
  7. So far this is turning into the best series since 5. Series 6 felt very disjointed to me and never really worked. Series 7 really didn't start until The Snowman as far as I'm concerned, as those first five episodes should never had happened like that and completely were poorly produced. So glad Moffat decided to go back to a more basic approach.
  8. Shades of Cool would be such a great Bond theme, it even pretty much has the riff in it (like Skyfall).
  9. <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>Check out the background - it's the same as the Death Star from Ep 4. Or a Star Destroyer I'd imagine?
  10. Definitely. They should have gone more of a Trouble with Tribbles route with it, having it be a merchant trying to unload a bunch of junk on Earth or the like. Get a real good comedy presence to show up at the end and it would have been a fun enough episode.
  11. Well, MacFarland is a big film music fan, so I wouldn't be surprised if he put money aside in the budget for such a release.
  12. It was definitely true of the first one. This one is more down to Kurtzman and Orci probably, but I wouldn't be surprised if the original cut was indeed superior.
  13. RIP I grew up watching Happy Gilmore all the time, and when I started getting into Bond during high school I began to really appreciate the presence that he brought to the screen. Seeing him in things like The Twilight Zone, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Silver Streak over the years always brought a smile to my face. He was a great surprise when he popped up in the game Everything or Nothing and it proved that his legacy will continue on for many years to come.
  14. It was a stupid fix. Even by Doctor Who standards. WTF? shooting a golden aarow onto the back of the ship somehow adds more power? It's ridiculous. Apart from this err in writing, the episode was good fun. They needed gold to power the ship. The arrow act to added to the reserve and give them a boost. Was it the best execution? No, but it fit the episode and was better than the Doctor waving his sonic around.

    24

I enjoyed it, and appreciated that it still felt like 24 and not just another show/movie with an old name attached to it (the recent Die Hard films for example). As mentioned, the shorted season made things much more compact and the story-telling much more precise and to the point. I really enjoyed the end of Season 8 and was a little uneasy about bringing the show back as I felt it went out on the perfect note, especially after the terrible beginning that the season had. That being said, season 9 impressed the hell out of me and left the 24 story in a good place, whether it be the end of not.
  16. A very funny woman, who was able to remain relevant and humorous until the end. My sister and mother are big fans, and I'm sure they will be upset by the news. I wish she didn't drag her unfunny and untalented daughter along with her the last couple of decades, but she always put her family at the forefront and that's to be appreciated.
  17. Actually, the Daleks used it quite often in the 60s. Star Trek just lifted it from Who. If I remember correctly, it was used in the very first Dalek story way back in 1963.
  18. I have a female friend who is a BIG Tennant fangirl. It took her until midway into 6 to start liking Smith at all and still holds quite a flame for 10. That being said, she immediately got hooked by Capaldi and is loving this incarnation. It would seem that while she was brought in presumably by a hawt Doc, she is staying around for the good stories and acting. So if her reaction is anything to go by, I don't think there is a big backlash against Capaldi as he's already proven himself to be amazing in the role. BTW, did anyone happen to catch After Who on BBC America following Deep Breath. Gatiss told a story of him inviting Capaldi to the set of AAISAT to look at the old TARDIS and what not and Capaldi lamented that he was too old to play the Doctor, all while Gatiss knew they were looking at him to replace Smith. It really comes through how much he enjoys the show and being a part of it.
  19. I don't know anymore than you. Why would he sell to them completely if he still wanted to have involvement? A partnership or a 50% stake of Lucasfilm would be the more likely action if he still wanted involvement. Disney are control freaks and want to control everything, I seriously doubt they would agree to anything if Lucas had any sort of power still. He has not even alluded to any involvement in the new movies beyond basic conception, and considering the rewrites that happened, I doubt much of anything that he proposed probably made it through. As for a potential final cut to the films, it would seem petty on Lucas' part. There may in well be a clause stating that with any new formats they must re-release his final versions, but potentially blocking the originals release would seem incredibly petty on his part, and something I find high unlikely that Disney would agree to. It seemed that after all the bad will he's been gathering since 1997, this was a way to get out and restore a little of his status among the fans. If he truly did block any potential release of the original films, he would seem that he had truly deserved all they outrage and backlash he had gotten over the years, and nothing I know about the man would suggest that he would take such a route. Its all rather pointless discussion though, as I doubt Disney and FOX are likely to make a deal to release the films anytime soon, especially considering the animosity with the MARVEL properties. Hell, just look at how long it took FOX and WB to make a deal to release the original Batman. If anything, we'll get ESB and ROTJ eventually, but Star Wars may be a long ways away.
  20. He sold the entire franchise to Disney. If any future tinkering happens, it's on the Mouse House. Exactly. Lucas has no say in this. He doesn't own the copyright anymore, he sold it to Disney as it was under ownership by Lucasfilm. He doesn't need to be consulted or the like to do what they want. I really don't see how this is even speculation. Disney wasn't going to give him $4 billion without complete control to do what they'd like with the property. Now, may they consult him about things? Sure, but it doesn't really mean a damn at the end of the day.
  21. Affleck actually challenged Damon. Affleck did his in front of his pool, with Jen Garner dumping the bucket on him. He then proceeded to drag her into the pool with him, much to the delight of their kids off camera.
  22. I don't watch the show, nor do I know the guys name I just remember seeing something about him a few months ago and thought he'd be great as a Bond henchman. EDIT: His name is Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson and it would appear he is the one who currently portrays The Mountain.
  23. I was a bit hard at times, and I tend to watch a lot of British tv and accents hardly get in the way for me. His Scottish accent is really strong, but I'm sure over time it will be easier to understand. As for the episode, I thought it was pretty good. Not quite as good a start as The Eleventh Hour, but I enjoyed that it made a definitive statement that the fairy tale era is over and we're into something new. I not too happy about that cameo near the end however, as it works now but will probably be seen negatively after some time has passed. All in all, I enjoyed the slower pace, and after the too zany first half, the episode really hit its stride in the restaurant. Capaldi is a tremendous actor and Coleman shows she can do more than just the flirty fun stuff she did with Smith. I'm hoping for a good season and hopefully its closer in structure to Season 5 than the previous two in terms of plot and narrative. As for the opening I like it, music and all. The music could be better (the version used in the fan version is loads better) but it has a different quality which is nice and a clear departure from the last few series, though the sting at the beginning could be bolder.
  24. That's the real reason it won't happen, of course. Making a billionaire not cry himself to sleep is hardly the reason it won't happen.
