Confession: Father of the Bride Part II is my most listened to Silvestri OST, more than any BTTF or Predator or Gump or Contact. It's such a great listening experience! The first movie is obviously miles better than the second as a film, but man what a score.

Let's Rescore Scenes! (Fun Thread)

It's not the same place in the score of course, but I like how this made a connection for me between these two shots. They even both have fences in the foreground! -
This is obviously popular music in 1934, but in 2022 it's closer to classical than what we would think of as pop. Either way, it's a really lovely, florid arrangement of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," reminds me of the style of 30s Hollywood musicals. https://archive.org/details/78_when-your-hearts-on-fire-smoke-gets-in-your-eyes_victor-salon-orchestra-jerome-ker_gbia0186491a/When+Your+Heart's+On+Fire+SMOKE+G+-+Victor+Salon+Orchestra.flac

Didn’t Lucas get the Irving Thalberg award that the Academy gives out? I think it’s meant to be even more respectable than the honorary Oscar. They don’t give one out every year.
-
We should place bets on what year the inevitable honorary Oscar comes.

How many people would have guessed that Rain Man was the 2nd biggest hit of Cruise’s career? Be honest!
-
Top Gun 2 is about about to be the biggest inflation-adjusted hit of Cruise's entire career at age 59! And actually he's turning 60 in less than a month. Nobody on Earth, not even Tom Cruise, would have predicted that. TG2 will almost certainly surpass that 437 number (it annoys me that The Numbers included Austin Powers in this list. cameos don't count!)

IMO the four greatest piano solo recordings of the 1920s
-
This is for sure part of it. Paramount said "about 55 percent of ticket buyers were over the age of 35" for the opening weekend, which is unheard of for a modern blockbuster.

What is the last Television series you watched?

Can't wait for season 2 to start later this month! -
Random aside: Figaro in the original movie is without doubt the cutest cat in cinema history

It would be truly shocking if Silvestri didn't. Zemeckis-Silvestri must be the most consistent of the major Hollywood director-composer collaborations, having not missed one film together since the relationship started.
-
Makes zero sense to compare them head-to-head. I abstain.
-
It's all but assured that Top Gun 2 will outgross Doctor Strange 2 (at least for the American box office) which I don't think *anyone* would have predicted 2 months ago.

Andre Previn's debut album on Contemporary Records (a cornerstone label for the LA jazz scene of the 50s and 60s) Woof!

Is John Williams in a way a role model for you and your own life?
Disco Stu replied to GerateWohl's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I look at my slovenly, lazy, "bare minimum is good enough" lifestyle and I have to say no, he's probably not a role model for me. -

You gotta watch it though! It’s all in how a story’s told.

I saw McCartney back in 2015. It wasn't a jaw-dropping show by any means, but yeah it's nice to say I've seen him and he's doing pretty darn well for his age.

Which score is Doug Adams referring to here?

It's just a tweet, guys. Calm down. -
Star Trek is better than everything

What a fantastic matte painting. The Klingon warbird might be my personal favorite ship design in Trek, certainly top 3. -
Teddy Wilson playing "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." I love all the innovators and iconoclasts that came later (Powell, Monk, Garner, Evans, Jarrett, etc. etc.), but in my mind Teddy Wilson will always be what jazz piano is meant to sound like.
