I'm revisiting this soundtrack this morning and the opening chords of "Wolves - Law of the Jungle" struck me as so similar to the chord progression in the verses of "Colors of the Wind" from the Disney Pocahontas movie. The "You think you own whatever land you land on" melody. It's all I can hear now. I'm probably just crazy.

This. It would be far more jaw-dropping to have a Star Wars score with no conducting by Williams than it was to have a Star Wars score not performed by the LSO. I will eat my hat (or some more modern equivalent) if this score is recorded anywhere without Williams conducting (barring unforeseen health issues that could prevent him of course).
-
Oh I'm not disputing that. I think it's bold to say that they would want it recorded by the LSO badly enough to pull a "Hobbits 2 and 3 scenario" (Williams composing in LA while William Ross or Conrad Pope conducts in London). I think it far more likely that they would just use a freelance LA orchestra again, why do you think otherwise?

This is a pretty bold assertion to make with such confidence!

What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)
Disco Stu replied to Mr. Breathmask's topic in General Discussion
I never use an artist as a guide to their own work. I'm a huge fan of the Hitchcock/Truffaut book but it's funny, when I'm reading it I often think, "Hitchcock, I disagree with almost every qualitative assessment you make of your own movies." I wish I could remember a specific example but I don't have the book at hand. -
Using my amazing mathematical skills, I have determined that at the same age as Verdi at the time of Aida, Williams was probably writing Home Alone (58).

I look forward to John Williams' first use of a Nintendo Entertainment System soundchip in a score.
-
Yeah I do think a 3-5 minute concert arrangement of the main theme would have been a really nice track to have.

I'm still waiting on Nolan's first great movie. (Interstellar has come closest for me personally)

Oooh are we on a Brian Cox tangent now? My personal favorite of his many great roles:

Mark Rylance is actually a newly discovered 8th color in the visible light spectrum. Or so Spielberg told me.

I was just scanning back through this thread and was very happy to come upon this clip that I hadn't seen before. John Williams heaping praise on Tony Kushner with Kushner sitting next to him just warmed my heart . What a special movie (and score).

Yeah, I've never heard any concert piece he's composed that follows the "medley of melodies" approach common for these end title suites.

Starring Richard Dreyfuss, Dennis Quaid, and Michael Caine.

For sure. I just love the poetry? symmetry? whatever? of them getting to exactly 30 and that 30th film being an Indiana Jones movie. Of course for all I know Williams will continue scoring Spielberg films into his 90s!! I demand that Spielberg and Williams bend to my OCD nature!
-
Everything is coming together as planned for my prediction that Indy 5 will be the 30th and final Spielberg/Williams feature film.... Excellent.

We may be thinking of different instances, but isn't this the music that accompanies Sophie discovering the portrait of Queen Victoria? EDIT: Nevermind, figured out you were speaking of the theme he mistakenly took for the Queen's theme, not the actual Queen's theme.

Well, like so many people before me, my teenage David Bowie obsession led me on the path of discovering Eno and then all the amazing experimental German artists that inspired them. That experimental, electronic music of the '70s holds a special place in my heart.
-
Yeah, looking at the chronological tracklisting, storywise, there's no way for material relating to the Queen to show up before "The Boy's Drawings".
-
Eno hating John Williams is not a reason to dismiss one of the most interesting figures in pop music history! Setting aside his (very worthwhile) ambient music recordings, his 4 solo pop albums of the 1970s are some of the coolest records of that decade. Another Green World and Before and After Science especially are essential albums IMO. The albums he produced with David Bowie and Talking Heads are brilliant, towering achievements by any measure. I mean, come on. This is just amazing:

I like this interpretation. It really is a very modest movie and Sophie is ultimately a rather modest character in terms of her hopes and dreams. She doesn't want to fly, she just wants a family. "Finale" reflects this modesty with a warm and subdued piano performance of her theme.

To me the film took place outside of time, it's adults' vision of a child's imaginary vision of how the world works.

I had missed that Kushner is writing the screenplay for Edgardo. I'm like a broken record on how much I love Lincoln so I'm 100% more excited for this now!

To be fair, by Deep Space Nine even the TV shows were starting to question Roddenberry's vision of the Federation as a benevolent force. EDIT: Jinx!
