  1. To be fair, counting the special edition of CE3K as separate is practically the definition of needlessly splitting hairs.
  2. The movie didn't make it clear, but it was strongly implied that basically all Atlantic coastline cities were completely destroyed. That would be quite a lot of people, but for some reason the movie focused less on the mass destruction than the first one did.
  3. This nagged at me a little as well. They strongly implied that Jaime was only just learning of Cersei's actions upon seeing the smoke pillar rising from the Sept. If the coronation was weeks later, this doesn't make sense at all to me. Word of an event like this would travel fast. Again, these minor plot holes don't detract from my enjoyment of a spectacular episode, but are worth discussing I think.
  4. Your explanation is your assumption, it is NOT in the text of the show. Extra-textual justifications!!!
  5. This is true, but the editing/storytelling certainly implies that all this stuff is happening in quick succession. I don't think it would hurt story momentum to make it a little more clear how much time is passing. Anyway, other than the nagging disappointment with Benioff/Weiss suddenly shrinking the world down to the size of New England, I thought this was an amazing episode. Tommen committing suicide had me completely agape. I love that Cersei is essentially the outright villain of this show now. She's even got a new costume fit for a villain! I'd say that it's bad news for Jon to be named "King in the North" given what happened to Robb, but where I think they'll go with this storyline is that Jon won't commit the same mistakes as Robb. So now it's confirmed that Jon is Dany's....nephew? Do I have that family tree right?
  6. The only way I can explain Arya getting all the way to the Riverlands of Westeros and getting a job at the Frey castle since the end of episode 8 is that the events of Braavos weren't actually concurrent with the rest of the storylines. I mean, all the Braavos stuff was so disconnected it doesn't have to be happening at the exact same time, even if it's implied by the cutting back and forth. There's just no way to wave away Varys being in Dorne after the Sept explodes and then back in Meereen seemingly the next day.
  7. I picture Arya and Varys just picking up their Playstation controllers and picking a warp location on a map. Game of Thrones clearly has a videogame-style fast travel system!
  8. Yes, it would be nice to, one day, be able to watch this.
  9. Something I just realized: assuming Williams scores "The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara," I think Indy 5 might end up being the 30th film in the Spielberg/Williams collaboration. If it ends up being the last, it'd be a hell of a number to go out on. Exactly 30 Williams scores.
  10. It was intermittently delightfully terrible, but mostly just terrible. I'd pay to see a cut of the movie where none of the younger, new characters ever utter a line of their needless and stupid dialogue. Brent Spiner, Goldblum, Judd Hirsch were all fun!
  11. I think I'm maybe presenting it as more utopian wish-fulfillment than I would want it actually told on the show. I would want the aristocracy to be severely wounded (physically and metaphorically) and maybe the equivalent of a Westerosian Magna Carta. The beginnings of change toward representative government where the people would have a say in their own governance
  12. I'm honestly not rooting for any of the main characters. Maybe Arya because revenge is fun. I kind of want them ALL to die in a war with the white walkers and at the end we have the beginnings of a democratic republic with all the aristocratic houses brought down. Maybe even a hint of a scientific revolution finally happening?
  13. I... actually agree with much of this. It doesn't mean I'm not enjoying the characters and story but yeah, they're all pretty terrible people. There are no heroes on this show, only competing garbage fires.
  14. I largely agree with you although I also don't think that Williams would appreciate people forming opinions and making criticisms of his work based on hearing 30 second samples. Even if your assumptions about the score are proven correct upon hearing the OST in full, it's just not fair to make sweeping statements about the soundtrack based on samples! This goes for people declaring it a masterpiece as well though. We haven't even heard 15% of the music at this point!
  15. Yeah I don't think he meant it literally, but the show could still use that dialogue as a bit of unintentional (on the character's part) foreshadowing. I'm not 100% thinking that Sansa is pregnant, but it's certainly something I could see them doing.
  16. For me as well! I cannot wait to see his American Gods miniseries next year. One of my favorite TV writers adapting one of my favorite novels? Yes please.
  17. I guess I'm just not sure what your dreaded worst-case scenario actually looks like, any examples of diversity done "the wrong way"? (IMO, the only "wrong" way to do it is begrudgingly). As a big fan of Fuller's previous work, I certainly don't think there's any reason to approach this series with pessimism.
  18. It was very much a conscious decision to be progressive in casting Nichols. Making it "a thing" behind the scenes is not the same thing as making it "a thing" on screen. A conscious decision by Fuller to have a diverse cast just can't be cast in a bad light, in my opinion.
  19. Me too. That one was a real grower for a lot of us.
  20. Oh sure, I think many of his scores are masterpieces as well. For me, I have to have listened to the full OST all the way through many times over many months before I feel comfortable enough in that opinion. Guess I'm just cautious!
  21. Woah woah woah now. I'm as excited for this score as anyone, but declaring it a masterpiece after listening to 30 seconds of each track is insane
  22. "Giants Netted" sounds like a lot of fun! Really reminds me of the pirate-related material in Hook. You can hear the same or related theme in "Fleshlumpeater" where the orchestration sounds much more like the Wet Bandits music from Home Alone. Can't wait to hear the whole thing.
  23. This was the same thought I had listening to the samples. "Listen to all these wonderful woodwinds"
  24. I've got a distinct feeling this might be the last we see of him.... This season seems to be the great purge of once important, but superfluous characters who aren't necessary for the endgame.
