It's all down to personal preference, but for me I always like to hear a Williams score in the film before listening to the soundtrack on its own if possible. This is definitely not how I approach all film composers.

Ha! Shows how quickly I slapped that together to get it in in time! I meant to put The Land Before Time at 9. I edited the original post. Sorry about that! -

I got an Amazon alert for my preorder that the release date had changed from 7/22 to 7/29. I wonder why it's being released a week after the movie. Could it be a manufacturing delay?

They certainly are strongly implying that's what Cersei will do. To the point where I wish they'd stop foreshadowing so it'd be more of a shock!

The only thing from this season that joins Hardhome on the list of brilliant, jawdropping Game of Thrones sequences is "Hold the Door." I've enjoyed this season but so much of it feels like setting the table for events to come, while "Hold the Door" was one of the few times where I was completely absorbed and in-the-moment if you know what I mean.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Oh God that's totally what's happening.

It's no match for "Downton Abbey dog butt"!

My memory might not be serving me well, but outside of Melisandre herself aren't all the witnesses to Shireen's death dead now? The show certainly made it seem like every member of Stannis' army died in the battle and his wife committed suicide. Was anyone else there?
-
I am very invested in Davos as a character and Cunningham's performance, one of my favorites on the show! I am invested in Melisandre only because she can make for interesting plot twists and turns, could care less about her as a character.

I didn't even realize that it had been released digitally, but this is what always kept me from buying it before: the seeming inability of online stores to differentiate between the various versions of the soundtrack released over the years.

I've always wanted to listen to it, but is there any way beyond tracking down a used vinyl/CD copy? EDIT: Nevermind, found it on Youtube I think?

What really sucks about this being the first Burton in 22 years Elfman isn't scoring is that it's the coolest looking Burton in like 10 years.

I love almost all of his movies (with The Limits of Control being my least favorite) but the two I would most wholeheartedly recommend everyone see are: Down by Law Mystery Train IMO those are peak-Jarmusch.- 27 replies

My wife and I were on the verge of staging a revolution when the HBO Now service was down. However we waited it out and were watching the episode by 9:55pm! Sure, we went to bed later than normal but it was totally worth it to not have to avoid spoilers all day today.

I especially enjoyed him in Jim Jarmusch's movie ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE. He was a great darkly comic foil to Tom Hiddleston's brooding and serious vampire. His presence on our screens will be missed. RIP.- 27 replies

Which original album do you find the least representative of the score?
Disco Stu replied to Bespin's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Going back to earlier in the thread, beyond going down to a single disc album after the double-album releases for the first two, thus excluding essential music, my biggest problem with the ROTJ soundtrack is the awful, awful re-recording of the 'Yub Nub' Ewok Celebration cue. The film version is so superior, and the album version is just embarrassing. I can't listen to it. Thank goodness the film version was released on the 1993 box set. It's the chipmunk vocalizations that bother me most in the album version. This is so good! Why re-record it at all! -
The Force Awakens The Force Awakens Disney Records OST

I got my copy on Friday and have listened to it twice over the weekend. The artistry involved in creating those holographic images is so cool. -
I've seen this with many soundtracks. They call a *very* short opening track "Overture" when maybe "Prologue" or "Introduction" would make more sense. Although even in classical music there's no universally agreed upon definition for what an "Overture" is even supposed to be other an introductory piece of music so I guess it doesn't matter the length.

OK instead of "fun" I should have used the words "stupid, but in a fun way." I prefer my Bond movies to be stupid, but in a fun and silly way. (If you haven't figured it out, Moore is my favorite Bond)

To be fair, I don't like any of the Craig Bond movies at all either. Call me when they make James Bond movies fun and silly again. The end of Spectre was very silly but definitely not fun. Brooding Bond = Bad Bond
