    Oh I'm not making any judgments on Daniel Hart's abilities, I've just honestly not heard of him before today. He might do a great job, I was just really looking forward to hearing a good Howard Shore children's fantasy score. Ah well.

    I'll give it a shot. Just because the movie was cutting back and forth between Starkiller Base and Maz's castle does not necessarily mean those events were happening simultaneously? I have no idea if this idea can be supported and I really don't think this is something worth caring about.

    Uhhhhhhhh, Howard Shore is no longer listed as the composer on Pete's Dragon on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2788732/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm Did I miss something? I can't find an official news story anywhere for this. It appears he's been replaced by Daniel Hart (who I've never heard of). It might explain why he was so evasive when asked about Pete's Dragon in this interview (http://collider.com/howard-shore-spotlight-interview-tom-mccarthy/)

    Wow! Spielberg certainly shows no signs of slowing down! This could be really cool, I have yet to dislike a Spielberg historical drama.

    Me too. I honestly would have happily read an entire HP-length novel of Voldemort's early life and rise to power. The flashbacks in HBP were the most fascinating part of that book for me.

    His Hook score has so many amazing moments. My personal favorite theme from that movie is the one for Smee, and this is my favorite small quote of it, at 5:40 in "The Ultimate War":

    Overall I found Desplat's work on Deathly Hallows a little disappointing, but that triumphant performance of Lily's Theme at 0:53 in "Dragon Flight" still gives me the chills:

    I am very, very interested to see what PJ does next with Middle-Earth well and truly behind him. I don't think it's gonna be Tintin, despite what IMDB might say.

    It really is a shame how that relationship went south. I can't be the only one who, coming off of Return of the King, thought (hoped?) we had the next Spielberg/Williams decades-long collaboration on our hands.

    The Grand Budapest Hotel OST is in very regular rotation for me still. It's fantastic music to listen to while I'm sitting at my desk at work.

    Woah, Gareth Edwards directed Godzilla and now Rogue One. Mon Mothra anyone?

    Right? It was amazing how kinetic and alive he made Jane Austen where so many literary adaptations are dreary and boring. Imagine what he could have done with Harry Potter!

    Would you say it's the music that binds these movies together? Surrounds them? Penetrates them?

    I still think Joe Wright would have been an excellent choice for one of those last 4. An excellent British director with a much more visually interesting style. I loved his adaptations of Pride & Prejudice and Anna Karenina. Both captured the spirits of their source material wonderfully.

    He basically filmed them so that they were as exciting as a cheap BBC period drama from the 90s. God what I wouldn't have given for someone with the visual flair of Cuaron to bring some magic to those movies. Anyway, all in the past now. But for this new movie, it would have been great if they had given it to a new, more interesting director.

    Yates was great at sucking all the life out of those wonderful stories.

    Yeah I think James Newton Howard is an excellent choice, excited to hear a new composer in the Harry Potter universe of music. Honestly the only thing that gives me pause with this movie is Yates directing it. I personally thought he ruined the last 4 Potter movies after Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire were so excellent. There were individual sequences and performances that were great, but overall poor adaptations that didn't capture the spirit of the books at all.
