Depends if they had a female choir in NZ. Could Gandalf's Demise just be the short segment from the quiet through his fall, and Elegy for Gandalf be Mabel's solo and through the end? I see a lot of small cues there. I edited my last post while you posted this comment, the Watcher is LPO.

The solo performer for Gandalf's fall is Mabel Faletolu, and the CR booklet says she was part of the NZ recordings. It also mentions the London Philharmonic under the Watcher, explaining aleatoric.

I can't even think what sort of assembly Doug based his book analysis on if there are (were?) no plans for Hobbit CRs.- 4,548 replies

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
Holko replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
Two Towers OST Now this is a different beast, in that it creates little pieces from similarly themed material - like Breath of Life near the end collecting Aragorn's river journey and return instead of those being scattered throughout. It's less chronological and a bit more conceptual than Fellowship. It still manages to select highlights to keep really well. I like it. -
Something tells me Bolle won't be especially taken by contemplating landscapes.

Call it what you want but it's Rhys-Davies reading a poem with nothing more musical about it than its rythm and some vocal embellisments. Are you really upset that his noisy creaking and taking breaths isn't on your music disc to obscure a cue as lovely and sweet as The Dreams of Trees? Narration counts for what? As what? What?
-
I don't know how Rhys-Davies' reading obscuring The Dreams of Trees would be better - it's bordering on included dialogue. It has as much right to be on a score album as Sam's Fireworks poem or Gollum's Fish Song. At least all the included cast performances really are sung and the score works with/around them brilliantly.

Anyone else prefer this over Yub Nub?

What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) (seen before) An absolute pleasure. Curry is a delight in everything he's in, Sarandon's quite the cutie, O'Brien is a hoot in every frame he's in, the music's great, and it's also damn funny at times. -

How do you listen to The Last Jedi the most?
Holko replied to The Illustrious Jerry's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
No no, it's another kind of Phantasy, but that's the Final hint. -

Exactly, that's what threw me off with my preconceptions for a good portion of the running time. -

I saw The Shining a few months ago, and it was not exactly what I expected, but very very very good nonetheless. -
So is your favourite composer of film scores actually John Williams?

You have Rachel Portman and Dave Grusin listed, but no Miklós Rózsa? Why would we need another favourite composer thread? -

Fellowship of the Ring OST after reading the CR booklet while listening to all referenced material Since Fellowship is the one to have a straightforward linear narrative, it lends itself to a chronological but heavily trimmed presentation, and this does pretty well at selecting the highlights to keep. I like to think of the OSTs as an alternate to the CRs; The Rarities Volume I-III with the book disc being Volume IV; a bonus feature; the abridged edition with neat alternates to complement the "real deal". I even placed the discs on the rubber nubs and stowed the Blurays away into the OST cases in the back corner of the drawer, since it's going to be a while until I even have anything to play them on. -
What, a paper sleeve with random Alan Lee art isn't enough? AND THE COLLECTIBLE ALTERNATE COVERS?

So, the Cannes presentation contained Moria and assorted bits, Moria was recorded with the NZSO and that stayed final. But which tracks exactly are NZSO? Khazad-Dúm is, with the Kiwi grunters and Mabel Faletolu, Balin's Tomb, too, and Doors of Durin is LPO, but Moria and Gollum(?) have EE material. Did the Theatrical trim the Cannes cut and the EE only restored it, or did Shore have to record LPO inserts for the Mithril ore and such in the now longer cut?

Looking at it, it's a vinyl form of the Motion Picture Trilogy release with similar, but not the same art style: I bought it last year, no need for a new version when this is still available. And that's definitely the TTT collage, notes, lyrics, credits and tracklist "upscaled" from the OST liner booklet.

They do not want to turn tha masses off with weird stuff like Pyotr or Ilyich on the front cover. How many Tschaikovskys do you guys know anyway? I was more taken by Lang Lang, He shot me down.
