Holko got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in David Arnold's TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997) - NEW! 2-CD Expanded Edition from La-La Land Records (2022)
I originally needed 2 listens and a nudge from the conversation about the song being a part of the score that this really unlocked for me - but boy did it unlock! I absolutely love it. Realising that Surrender's parts tie the whole thing together gives it a big old new layer of fun. I'm generally not a fan of the sound of 90s+ pop, but Bond has always had a strong poppy vein, and I have to say Arnold does a perfect job of melding the old with the new here, the percussion and synths add a lot of kick and fun instead of taking away, but the score still allows for giant Barryesque elephantine brass rips and gentle respites. After a score's worth of hints and twists, the finale with the chorus melody blowing up in waves is insanely satisfying, I had shivers running all over my skin in a perfect scoregasm. I tried TWINE after and I didn't find it nearly as enjoyably cohesive and the pop stuff was a bit more overpowering - I only tried DAD's samples and that seemed to get a lot worse there. TND, however, ultimately ended up more than worth buying. I didn't even have to change much for my perfected program:
I extended White Knight with the unique material right after the gun barrel in the original version, faded it back into its rewrite, switched the opening of Backseat Pilot with the original to have more Bond theme, then combined them to really fit the tempo.
I used Surrender as the title song, it really fits with its big bang of and opening.
I used the edited Company Car - I find this one of the least interesting cues, I found the edit good and it doesn't get rid of anything I love.
I used the alternate Bike Chase for the longer opening.
Surrender (alternate) is the end credits song, its softer opening is a perfect followup to the playoff of the climax, and gives it a reprise feel.
I then combined the remainders, Devonshire Original, Bike Shop film version and the alternate combo of Backseat Pilot (main program opening plus the rest of the original).

Holko got a reaction from Andy in Soundtracks, Compilations, or other recently purchased Music
Been searching for a nice digital Mancini compilation a little while ago. Now I go to the store to pick up my new tablet and this is just there on the shelf!
Well it's not there on the shelf anymore.

Holko reacted to DarthDementous in The Mandalorian SHOW discussion - Spoilers Allowed for all aired episodes
Disagree, it’s all in the execution. Mandalorians are perfectly capable of carrying a whole show but almost nothing about this version of them makes any sense and is incredibly meandering. So when it cuts to something that has already been established as significant by other media, Order 66, it’s like a jolt out of the stupor the episode has put you in. Case and point, Obi Wan Kenobi focused entirely on the Jedi and was terrible

Holko got a reaction from Brando in SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE - 3CD Set from La-La Land Records
The "film version" main title is actually the opening of the original recording combined with the end title.

Holko got a reaction from Andy in Indiana Jones Unreleased Music Resource
I don't understand the "I would prefer if it wouldn't be included" side. I don't think anybody's talking about putting them in the main program, they'd be thrown at the end of disc 2 or something where they wouldn't bother anybody.

Holko reacted to Datameister in JW's secret lyrics
I'm loving all the lyrics being shared, but the flagrant disregard for the natural prosody of the music is devastating. Stretching the word "it's" over four notes? Stressing the first and last syllables in "skyscraper"? Using "Skywalker" to add an extraneous note to the sublime first phrase of Rey's theme? Splitting "man" across two notes in the staccatoest phrase of Superman's theme, thereby pronouncing it /ˈmæʔæn/? Shameful. We're better than this. John toils for hours or days to get a melody just so, only for it to be promptly shat upon by an unstressed syllable on an accented note? Outrageous.

Putting out proper explanations in time about what the hell you're trying to sell is too mainstream.

Feels like they are just trolling us at this point.
I remember a few years back that Roger was seriously puzzled when I asked if they would consider posting high-res (as in larger than 600x600) art.

Holko reacted to ThePenitentMan1 in JW's secret lyrics
"No longer am I... just a man.
I'll only go by... Superman!
You look at me as... just a guy.
But I hide, deep inside, I can fly!"
"Superman, it's just how it sounds!
I am a super man, just making my rounds.
And I'm here to saaave you 'cuz that's what the braaave do.
I'm known as the man of steel, with a heart of gold."
"Want adventure? Come to me:
A professor... of archaeology.
Buried treasure's... worth the fee!
But choose poorly, and surely, you're purely... cremation."
(I can't believe I'm the only one so far to mention Goldentusk in a thread about putting lyrics to JW pieces!)

Clearly the concept "less is more" is lost on some designers.
And yeah, I know this is based on a Bluray cover, but that doesn't make it any less hideous. What's with the obnoxious sharpening and ugly rock texture around the edges? Not to mention the awkward cropping at the bottom.
These are great fan covers! Nice work!

What the hell is that blue outline... nice generic Trajan Pro again.
And the second one's just a total visual mess. The bottom makes it so obvious that it's just a bigger picture lazily reframed. Also how the hell can you make her look this bad? (This last one's on the poster designer, not Kay)
Also "ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK EXPANDED EDITION" is such an unwieldy phrase and a weird way to describe it.
I do like the samples though.

That's why I've made my own cover based on the teaser poster.
