Buying as soon as I can! I have wishes and minor holdups but waiting for the podcast episode first then before asking them/pre-whining. How soon is soon, @TownerFan?

Don't worry, only intolerant people can be negatively affected by C&C. I hope it's not your case!

    Nessun problema

Many of your questions will be answered soon by Mike himself in an upcoming podcast episode on The Legacy of John Williams.

I did some consultancy on this project so I will probably come out biased, but the only thing I can say is that this release is worth all the time, money and attention of any serious John Williams fan. It's truly a wonderful presentation.

Courage's involvement is known since 1971, as he's credited in the main titles.

Williams' Oscar is more than deserved. It's a massive work of arranging, orchestration and also composition.

You listen or used to listen to classical, right? You didn't know the movies for Bach pieces either.

We watched this back in October around Halloween time; Hadn't seen it in a while.  It holds up pretty well I think.  At the time, I think it didn't do as much for me, thinking it lacked a special something that I enjoyed from all of Tim Burton's prior films.  But now in retrospect I can enjoy it more, maybe because I know Burton would only get even less special after this   Some of that could be due to his increasingly obvious use of CGI as his career goes on; while used here for sure, isn't as obvious as his later films and there's some nice practical effects too.  The cast is entertaining, and I appreciate the whole score on a new level so that's nice too.

Not a great movie, but an entertaining one!

@BrotherSound pointed out that 10" vinyl can realistically hold only 9 minutes of music for optimum audio quality. Go much higher and the quality degrades. Which means this release can't be an OST reissue...

So more likely a heavily truncated OST, probably 2 tracks per side?

    Here's the OST:

I have to say, Disney Music make some utterly bizarre decisions with these marquee properties. It's like they go out of their way to do the exact opposite of what we want.

Yes, that's definitely what I was thinking and meaning.

I love love love it! But of course the revised one works way better.

Also in Paint Cans when Marv realises it's missing and Harry looks for it!

The other day I was thinking that many Home Alone motifs are the usual external, descriptive ones - Holiday Flight, Kevin's theme (gaining confidence with every new rendition), the burglars, the House - but Somewhere in my Memory and Star of Betlehem are more like Kevin's introspective themes, the first representing at first the jolly holiday feeling, then the melancholy, then the joy of everyone reunited at home, the second as you said Kevin's fears and later, after it's reevaluated, his determination. SimM standing for "Home", SoB for "Alone", if you will! From the home being a normal home, to it not really being a home without everyone in it, back to being home again; and from Kevin being alone and afraid, to making peace with being alone and having to defend his house himself.

I also really like how by the end SimM fuses with Kevin's theme, foreshadowed in the main title too: first phrase (out of 4) of SimM + second (of 2) of Kevin! This is also present in the end credits and therefore the concert piece, making it extra nice that JW asked Mike to move the concert piece away from the overture position for the newer LLL.

Mike mentions in the booklet how Old Man Marley's Dies Irae (Introducing Marley, Man of the House, Drug Store) gets "revealed" to be Carol of the Bells - I think I'm hearing more similar shapes elsewhere too, a rythmically jumbled one recurring for the scary basement furnace (4th note quickly overtaken by the first one again), and the twisted stabs after the tooth stinger in Follow that Kid, first 3 brass notes loud, the 4th coming later quietly on strings.

Too bad 2 barely makes any use of its new themes and uses the old ones messily. Kevin's theme gets the most consistent continuation, still being confident but getting multiple fun variations.

I like Curse of the Black Pearl and the OST is terrible. (I mean the original CD actually SOUNDED terrible. Has this been fixed?) I cannot get into Dead Man's Chest as a whole at all. But I play the three suites (Jack Sparrow, The Kraken, Davy Jones) over and over.

But At World's End? Oh that is one of the sublime Zimmer scores. I miss him writing scores like this. I can actually listen from start to finish and enjoy the whole thing. I love the themes and I love the way they're used. The only thing I skip is Multiple Jacks. Meh.
