    Typo fixed

Some stats about this year's donation drive

Every single person who donated donated exactly $10, $20, $30, or $50.  This is the first time this has ever happened, usually there's random donations in between or higher than these amounts.

    We got

    8x$10 donations
    10x$20 donations
    6x$30 donations
    3x$50 donations

For a total of $610, though paypal takes a cut of that and there was leftover from last time sitting in the account already too of course.  Regardless, it will be awhile until we need to ask for money again, which is great!

Thanks for all 27 of you who donated, you guys are the best!

But you see this was all done secretly without her knowing.

The Mandalorian, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi are all great! Jedi Fallen Order is the best Star Wars game in an eternity (and they wrangled in EA's microtransactions), they hired John Powell to compose Solo (after hiring John Williams to write the theme), an expanded score for Solo less than 3 years after it was recorded, getting an Obi Wan series off the ground with Ewan McGregor, getting Williams to write a new concert suite for a Star Wars theme park (complete with the LSO performing it), Williams revisiting Han Solo and the Princess with a revised concert suite, getting Indiana Jones 5 into production with one of Hollywood's most acclaimed directors, convincing Williams to return to score Indy 5 without Spielberg directing...

That's plenty of great stuff in a pretty short tenure, not even factoring in the 10 hours of new music Williams recorded for the sequels, 6 hours of which is unreleased.

I'd also wager the likelihood of Star Wars and Indiana Jones expansions being rubber stamped is significantly higher with Kennedy in charge, having spent most of her career working with Spielberg and Williams (and is married to Frank Marshall, whom Mike deals with regularly on expansions).

Yes I've always thought Part III was obviously the best score of the trilogy.  I would say the train sequence is superior as an action setpiece.

Wow. The opposite of what you said. III doesn't have the dizzying highs that BTTF has (clock tower!) but I think it's a better overall score. And there is something fantastically heartbreaking and melancholy about going from the manic craziness of Doc passing out before the title to the love theme and Marty driving Doc home in the rain.

And the three train chase tracks are almost as good as the clock tower sequence.

I might have to listen to this today.

Seven Years in Tibet is my favourite John Williams score and it's chock-full of these great moments. I've been listening to it a lot over the past few weeks and I notice something new every time.

I love how stretched the main theme is here, and those impending strings are soooo good! Absolutely chill-inducing when paired with bells + piano at 2:25, and that's before the big finish! Can't really think of anything quite comparable in JW's career to the genuinely epic conclusion at 3:08.

It's a smaller thing but I've always loved how particularly pronounced the bells are at the start of this cue:

I know there's been some speculation about whether an expansion is in store, and while I have no doubts that the specialty label treatment would be kickass, I personally find that the OST is flawless and leaves nothing to be desired. I'm not even sure how much more music there would be to discover but I'll certainly pick up a copy (should it come to fruition) out of obligation to my favourite score and the work of the label alone. In any case, it's awesome stuff!

this is what makes JW so good.  this part in the cue has no business being so good.  its a freaking movie about tom hanks stuck in an airport and we still get cues like this.  it's unreal.

Exactly. It's mindbogglingly stupid on the part of the AFM, everyone loses.

At the very least they could reduce the fees after 10 years for specific circumstances, like expanded albums limited to 5000 units.

Why is Dvorák allowed to rip off Beethoven without impunity? Why was Bach allowed to write 200% similar cantatas without impunity? Why did no one complain about the insane amount of similar religious music back then? Why is it that only Williams is blamed for this?

Peter Jackson apparently got Disney to allow uncensored cursing in the doc

I was wondering about this. Can't wait for Paul McCartney to say "fuckface" on Disney+

Sorry, it takes a long time to go through every donation ,figure out the screen name if they want to be included, put the names in mugs, draw them, etc.  Just didn't' get a chance this weekend.  Hopefully some night this week.

The only chance for the next couple decades that this score had to be presented properly, and it's just a middle finger.

Two "on first listen" purchases... plus the fruits of multi-company, transatlantic misnegotiation.

No, he's absolutely right. No one should buy this, if that's what it takes for the Disney idiots to check their garbage before releasing it to the public. Oh no, wait, they're too busy making remakes we all want, Star Wars and more Star Wars.

Sure, if they put in no care like the ones who did these covers or if they do zero effort shit like the demasters or that coke poster cover.

I love the SE release's mix, top tier film score cue of all time. I feel the concert piece restructuring only hurts it.

Definitely 5 titles...possibly 6. The 6th title all depends on the manufacturer being done in time.

We did have another awesome title ready to go but got hit with some additional approvals needed last second, so we had a January release slide in and take its place. As to when this title will be approved only George Burns knows
