Evanus reacted to Thor in So Ridley Scott is directing a Gladiator sequel...
Not at all. All of his "continuation films" have been great.

That's isn't quite precise. THE LAST DUEL was very nice (for a problematic film). And THE MARTIAN, which was almost 10 years ago, but not quite. And the gorgeous (chilly, ethereal, offkilter) "Life" theme for PROMETHEUS. All of those were for Scott too. I believe that is the canvas he needs to do something great. If not KINGDOM OF HEAVEN great, then certainly something high quality.

It was already announced that is Harry Gregson-Williams months ago

Evanus reacted to Mr. Who in Hans Zimmer's DUNE PART TWO (2024)
The love theme/atreides theme was partly written during the scoring process of Dune Part One but was adapted and developed further after the score was finished. We got a version of this development on the sketchbook track 3.
For example at 0:15 in this clip we can hear the theme:
The opening section performed here in this clip is what I call the House Atreides call to Arms section A variation because this is also used in Armada, when the Atreides soldiers and Gurney run towards the Harkonnens in the battle.
In Part Two, the A section is not used in this way but has the Love variation which shares some progressions and melodic pets but is quite different (performed on duduk often).
The B section is played at 0:47 in the clip linked above and is used a lot in Part Two in the romantic cues but often with a slightly different harmonic accompaniment, giving the theme a different feeling in Part Two, like in the case of Kiss The Ring, a quite sad feeling.
The theme that is used a lot for House Atreides is what I call the House Atreides Noble theme. It appears in the second half of Herald of the Change, in My Road Leads into the Desert and several others including the second part of Only I Shall Remain.
Everyone seems to have a slightly different view of what the themes in Leaving Caladan represent but the 8 note theme I usually just call the Dune main theme whereas the theme plying in the opening of Leaving Caladan or Sanctuary are either Dune Main B or the Arrakis theme (which I think another member, Mephariel used). Both themes are very entwined and work great together but I would say that they’re separate themes.
I definitively wouldn’t say that any of them represent Caladan though.
There is a motif that represents Sandworm Power though which is this kind of siren like sliding motif together with the low bass guitar part. It plays towards the end of Ripples in the Sand (before the main theme comes in at the end) and also appears in other sand worm moments.

Evanus reacted to paleo in Hans Zimmer's DUNE PART TWO (2024)
I totally agree. "The Creator" also comes to mind. I was hoping there would be something like "Prayer" of that score in Dune, but alas, religioso mode was probably not what Villeneuve was after here. Thus, "The Emperor" is the only cue vaguely going in that direction, I guess, albeit being much more aggressive

Evanus reacted to crocodile in THE ACOLYTE - 2024 Star Wars TV
Having heard some of his concert output, and the few tracks posted above, I am even more excited about this. I hope they give him the opportunity to harken back to a more space opera classical idiom for this project, something that the concept (hopefully) might ask for. Fingers crossed!

I kinda want an Alan Silvestri JP score. John Powell would be great too, but he'd never do it. I suppose Desplat is most likely?

nevermind, they added crappy black bars to the sides

Evanus reacted to Luke Skywalker in Using AI to manipulate film score audio (dialogue removal, stem separation, etc)
Would the AI work for this video?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RS8A99ISvi4
is the only music piece not in the game files. And the composer only has the multi track tapes with no means of transfering them 😞

Evanus reacted to Marcus Stöhr in Introducing FMDB - Mapping the world of soundtracks (a new soundtrack focused database)
After a very long time I am very proud to introduce the fully redesigned FMDB - you can find it under https://www.fmdb.net
The vision of this non-profit project is to provide a comprehensive and detailed database of soundtrack releases and recordings. Each release contains at least one production (e.g. a film) with its own credits. This makes it possible to accurately list the various credits. General credits for the entire release are listed separately. Individual tracks are assigned to productions, so you can see which film, TV series or video game they come from. Want to see which episode the tracks from the many STAR TREK releases are from? No problem at all.
But all this only works with people who are as obsessed with detail as I am. And I'm looking for you. To make sure the quality is right, there should be a group of people who take care of it, like curators in a library.
The next feature will be the ability to create your own user account. You will then be able to report errors in records.
I'm happy to receive any kind of feedback to help make FMDB a viable tool for the soundtrack community.

Wouldn’t let me paste it without opening the paste box and pasting it there, strange.

Evanus reacted to Thor in Jurassic Park 7, written by David Koepp
He doesn't intrigue me, I'm afraid. Leitch seems like a run-of-the-mill journeyman director. Can't discern any particular trademarks or interesting aspects. Then again, so is Joe Johnston and Colin Trevorrow. The only exception was Bayona, but his trademarks were mostly eaten up by the franchise machine (except, marginally, in the gothic haunted house last act). I don't expect the post-Spielberg JURASSIC PARK movies to have the same auteur stamps as the ALIEN films or anything, but a slightly more interesting director would have been preferred. Gareth Edwards would have been great. Or old-school action auteurs like Paul W.S. Anderson, Neil Marshall, David Twohy....or, for a woman, Kathryn Bigelow.
But we'll see. The proof is in the pudding.

Evanus reacted to GerateWohl in Jurassic Park 7, written by David Koepp
I didn't expect the sequels to be ground breaking. But they simply could have followed the principle of making the action credible. In Jurassic Park the T-Rex and the raptors were credibly highly effective predators and everyone knew, when you meet them in the wilderness without shelter, you are dead. You have no chance.
In Fallen Kingdom we watch one of these killer machines which is, as people say in the movie, the most dangerous and most effective of all, chasing a little girl down an aisle stumbling around and not able to catch the little child. That scene would also have been stupid in Jurassic Park. Ground breakingly stupid.

I really hate this modern way of film-spotting. The sequels and this film are a complete mess to sort out

Giacchino is such a boring choice compared to John Powell and Randy Newman.

Evanus reacted to Yavar Moradi in John Powell's HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 (2014) - 2022 Varese Deluxe Edition
Yeah I’m in the same boat. Got the DE of the first and won’t miss the third when it gets released. But the second score (which might be my favorite) I’ll have to pay through the nose for if I want to complete the trilogy. 😢
Yavar

Evanus reacted to bored in Bear McCreary's The Rings of Power APPRECIATION thread
Yeah I gave the score a shot too, it just doesn't fit in with the Howard Shore scores, and while that's not a problem for people who want something different, as someone who wanted to hear a second age score that fits in with that musical universe, it leaves me wanting so much more. It also doesn't help that Howard Shore's main title so perfectly encapsulates the universe and individual cultures so well, making the rest of the score feel like a shadow of what we could have had.

That's a horrible cover. Still, instant buy.
I missed out on the second one, seems it's out of stock.. anyone know if it'll return? I'd rather not pay 100 euros for it :/

Evanus reacted to Chen G. in The Hobbit Film Trilogy Thread
My point is taken nonetheless, I trust.
And, in general, I can only imagine the fool (of a Took?) who goes into a Peter Jackson Tolkien movie NOT expecting an action film. They're all action films. Doesn't mean their drama is diminished for it in the least.
