Yeah, I hope not. Trapanese is nice, but their style is much more unique and interesting, and I really hope they can expand on the themes and the soundscape they have created in this first season!

Agree! For me the highlight of the show are the characters, especially the Straw Hats. I love their development and their interactions with each other, and truly shows that both the actors and the creators understand the characters very well. And on top of that, even if the first episode can feel a bit slow or uneven, the show is a lot of fun, with some great action sequences and an overall energetic sense of adventure! It's not without its flaws, but it's definitely worth a try!

Knight of Ren got a reaction from Mr. Who in Hans Zimmer's DUNE PART TWO (2024)
    2) I think that track was meant to be used during the action scene of Rabban Harkonnen's attack to the fremen, when they get scared and run off, since I think there's no music in that scene. Perhaps they felt it worked better without score, butfrom what I remember, it could fit in there.

    5) I noticed this as well while listening to the soundtrack again a few days ago. Particularly, in Harkonnen Arena, Feyd-Rautha's theme reminded me a lot of that Seduction theme, so I checked both Harkonnen Arena and Seduction back to back and it definitely feels like the same melody but with vastly different arrangements.

Listen to 0:45 of Harkonnen Arena and then to 0:50 of Seduction.

I also remember there were some unreleased variations on this idea.

Knight of Ren reacted to Jay in WESTWORLD (HBO TV)
New interview with Jonathan Nolan includes, among other things:

Is there any possibility that Westworld‘s original planned ending will be dramatized in any form — whether as a graphic novel or a movie or anything? Do you still have hope for that?
Yes, 100 percent. We’re completionists. It took me eight years and a change of director to get Interstellar made. We’d like to finish the story we started.

How much did Warners taking the show off Max bother you? To not just cancel it but to remove it from the streaming service.
Look, my career began on CBS [with Person of Interest]. The amount of people you can reach with a free, ad-supported service [like Roku and Tubi, which had Westworld last year] is vastly higher than with a subscription service. That part didn’t bother me. But in terms of finishing the story, you understand that you get the time that you get, sometimes it’s as much as you want, sometimes it’s not. I’m so fucking proud of what we made. It was an extraordinary experience. I think it would be a mistake to look back and only feel regret [over how it ended]. But there’s still very much a desire to finish it.

Yeah, it works great within the show which was quite entertaining. Nothing groundbreaking, but the music certainly elevates many of the more emotional scenes!

I think Bear's thematic material shines in the TV shows where he allows his themes to develop across multiple seasons. RoP will surely be a great example of this when it's done, but Outlander is definitely one of my favorite scores by him, and as mentioned above has several recognizable ideas that I could hum with ease, like Claire and Jaime's theme, John Grey's theme, the Stones theme or the gorgeous title song, The Skye Boat Song.

Something similar happens with Masters of the Universe, which has some of the catchiest themes he has done I feel. And I also think he crafted memorable and instantly recognizable themes for his God of War scores!

ARK: The Animated Series was just released, and the first volume of the soundtarck containing, I think, all music from the first 6 episodes is here!
Apparently, the composer was allowed to rework several sections from the game, as well as his memorable main theme, alongside at least 7 new identities for different characters. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but I'm planning on watching the show and listening to the soundtrack as soon as I can!

What I've heard so far sounds awesome and I particularly love Helena's theme. I think anyone who's a fan of the composer will enjoy this. They also posted a small behind the scenes video where the composer talks about the scoring process:

I watched the first two episodes and I quite enjoyed it! I like that the story jumps straight into action, not wasting a minute to develop the plot. The animation has that vintage vibe, and sometimes really feels like it's a moving comic book panel. Really excited for where they go next during the season.

The Newton Brothers score is great, and I love the big presence of the synths in the work. I particularly liked the whole action sequence in episode 1, that I hope it's included on the album release!

I've been watching this show and I really enjoyed the first season, and the soundtrack album was just released!
Some beautiful stuff in there, especially the main theme by Satoru Kosaki, that plays in many of his cues. Kevin Penkin's contributions are also nice, but my favorite tracks are definitely in the first part of the album. I absolutely recommend both the show and the soundtrack. Lyrical, cute and emotional, and one of the biggest surprises of the year so far!

Also, Hiroyuki Sawano's score for Solo Leveling was released, but I found it a bit underwhelming, relying on the same techniques he perfected in Attack on Titan, but without the emotional impact they had in there. The OP song is awesome as is DARK ARIA, and some cues are nice (big fan of part 8 of the symphonic suite), but overall is a bit of a disappointment.

Yeah, I've kind of lost hope on a Masters of the Universe release. It's a shame because there was some great bits of muisc in the new season but I don't think a release is coming. Which is weird since recently they released an album for Imaginary, which in my opinion is much less interesting than MotU S2.

But I also thought there wasn't going to be a blog post about Percy Jackson and we got it two months later, so who knows...

Well, the 2nd Masters of the Universe from earlier this year has also not been released. So there's really no telling. It kinda feels like Bear is so busy with his concept album, that they're forgetting there's other music people like to hear.

Knight of Ren reacted to MaxMovieMan in Hans Zimmer's DUNE (2021)
I decided to do a prequel of sorts to the thematic breakdown I did of Part Two. Again using @WampaRat’s thematic glossary I put together this track-by-track analysis of both the complete first score and the sketchbook album.

    THEMES/MOTIFS

    Dune Main Theme -
I don’t think this theme represents one thing. It represents Paul, his destiny, Arrakis, and the overall story of Dune in general. It is a true “main” theme. There are two different variations of the main theme. There is the 4-note variation that is more mystical, ethereal, and powerful (Used for sandworms and epic moments) and then there is the 8-note variation that is more mysterious, ethnic, and malleable (Used for Paul, Arrakis, and his destiny). When both variations play together I call it the main theme. This usually only happens in pivotal moments or concert suites.

    Fate/“The One” Theme -
The second main theme of Dune is for the chosen one, the Kwisatz Haderach. When this theme is screamed it sounds like a powerful war anthem but when it is subdued on woodwind or whisper the theme has a much more sinister/seductive vibe to it.

    Vast Mystery/Wonder Chords -
The next two motifs/themes are very connected. The Vast Mystery/Wonder Chords often play in tangent with the Tragic Noble theme. So for this reason these chords are essentially just for all matters of wonder/awe/visions that are in the Dune universe.

    Tragic Noble Theme -
This theme represents the responsibility/cost of being a leader, specifically when it comes to House Atreides. It connects to the Vast Mystery/Wonder Chords a lot which shows how this theme too is mystical in nature.

    Impending Doom Motif -
My favorite motif from the film, this dark and menacing motif represents the darkness on the horizon for the Dune universe. Whether it be the evilness of the Harkonnens, the Sardukar, or Paul himself, this motif encompasses all scheming and danger.

    Sorrow/Loss Motif  -
This short little sad motif represents the sorrow that the Atreides experience in Dune. More specifically relating to Leto losing just about everything.

    Duncan Idaho Motif -
Batman-esque motif that plays in essentially the same manner whenever Duncan arrives to the scene.

    House Atreides -
This absolutely gorgeous theme went very underused in the first film being completely shrunk to just the bagpipe aspect for the Atreides army. The main vocal part of this theme is incredible and I can see why Hans ended up deciding to use it as the main theme of Part Two. It’s elegant yet also tragic which perfectly captures both House Atreides/Paul and Chani’s love.

    Bene Gesserit Whispers/Chants -
Little whispers and occasional loud chanting whenever the Bene Gesserit’s schemes are at play.

    Arrakis Drum Motif -
The most prominent motif in the series, this short little drum burst is everywhere in the score not representing one particular thing ever. However there are a couple of instances where this drum motif is highlighted specifically (Arrakeen and Dream of Arrakis). I think in both of these cases the drum motif is representing the roughness of the desert.

    Sardukar Throat Singing Motif -
Strange vocal throat singing manipulation that represents the Sardukar (And maybe even the God-Emperor????)

    Harkonnen Screech -
Loud siren-like horn that represents the Harkonnens.

    Harkonnen Clang -
Metallic clang that represents the Harkonnens.

    Fremen Chimes -
Small little chime march that represents the Fremen way of life.

Nice score! The main theme heard in the first track is quite memorable, and I really like its different arrangements across the album. The fantasy stuff is definitely the best part of the score, because when it veers into action/atmospheric territory in the middle section it lost me a bit, but some trimming should leave a really enjoyable listening experience. Nothing groundbreaking but entertaining and really pretty at times, and a much better score than this (quite mediocre) film deserved!

The most striking aspect of the Dune movies to me is how tactile they are. I can feel the sand rippling on the dunes, the wind in my hair, the tremors through the ground. The sort of eyes-half-closed abstract visual of the title shots (that reappear as transition shots in Part 2) is something all of us recognize, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone try to visualize it. For this, I think it's very fitting with a similarly tactile score. It's not concerned with the intellect or complexity of scoring traditions, but with the visceral impact it can give. The House Atreides melody on bagpipe/electric guitar feels right, and the same theme on duduk over synth chords feels right, though it's a completely different context.

Yeah, Hollow Knight is such a great score! The samples are a bit noticeable at some points, but is remarkable how great everything sounds considering the low budget they had. The score works brilliantly within the game but also works great as a listening experience. I love Larkin's themes and I wonder if some of them will pop up in some form in Silksong!

This score was released today. I watched the movie a couple of months ago and I really enjoyed it, and I remember liking the score in context. It's quite atmospheric for the most part, but perfectly underscores the danish wastelands and the isolation portrayed in the movie, and as the score progresses, it becomes more orchestral and dramatic. The last couple of cues are actually quite beautiful and emotional. Romer is such an interesting composer which sadly doesn't work a lot, but I definitely recommend some of his work. Apart from this one, I also really enjoyed his scores for Luca and Wendy, if you're looking for some recommendations!

I've been revisiting the Kung Fu Panda scores and the second entry is definitely my favorite. Powell's presence is perfectly balanced with Zimmer's and I really like how each of them gave their own style to the music and the themes. KFP3 is also really nice, but I feel not as great since Powell's absence is felt more, and a similar thing happened while listening to the fourth score recently.

My fav Powell scores outside of HTTYD would be Pan, Call of the Wild and Solo. I love his fantasy/adventure writing and I feel those are some of the best examples of what he has to offer!

Knowing she is Giacchino's wife makes me think she will definitely use his themes, so I'm okay with someone else scoring the film as long as it's a good score, and perhaps she will bring a new perspective or a new voice to the project. Looking forward to it!

To carry on @WampaRat’s thematic glossary I put together a thematic breakdown of the score as well as the chronological order. I’ve seen the film three times now and honestly it’s one of the best things I’ve watched in a long time. In combination with Part One I’d say this is a 10/10 movie. There are a lot of unreleased tracks so I’ll update this once the FYC comes out.

    RETURNING THEMES/MOTIFS

    Dune Main Theme -
I’ll be classifying the four-note theme as the “A” theme and the eight-note theme as the “B” theme to stay consistent. When both play at once I’ll refer to it as the main theme.

    Fate/“The One” Theme -
This theme is extremely underplayed on album. The theme in this film basically becomes Jessica’s after she… changes. It’s played on woodwinds quite a lot as she enacts her plans. There is a major missing variation of this theme that plays towards the end of the film. It has the Kwisatz Haderach motif as a counterpoint. I’m sure this will be on the FYC album.

    Vast Mystery/Wonder Chords -
Sadly this motif takes a backseat in this score. It plays a select couple times but doesn’t nearly have the presence it did in the first film.

    Tragic Noble Theme -
Another theme that is diluted this time around. It has a great appearance at the end of “Only I Will Remain” but that track doesn’t actually play during the film only the credits.

    Impending Doom Motif -
Although not actually appearing as much as it did in the first film, this motif makes a major impact on the film by playing in select important scenes relating to Paul’s dark future or even the darker actions he takes here.

    Sorrow/Loss Motif -
Sadly not featured on the album but there is a track in the film that features this motif. It plays twice and both times relates to how the Bene Gesserit prophecy is taking over the Fremen and leading them to war. Hopefully this track will be on FYC album.

    House Atreides/Paul and Chani’s Love Theme -
This theme goes from barely being featured in the first film to becoming the main theme of the second. It evolves from the bagpipe power anthem for House Atreides to a beautiful woodwind/Blade Runner-esque love theme for Paul and Chani.

    Bene Gesserit Whispers/Chant

    Arrakis Drum Motif

    Harkonnen Screech

    Harkonnen Clang

    Fremen Chimes -
This is a new motif that I noticed upon rewatching both films. It’s like a small little chime march that appears when characters are walking through the rocky terrain of the Sietches. It has a big appearance that’s not on the new album but it’s when…

    (Stillsuits - 1:55)

    NEW THEMES/MOTIFS

    Feyd Rautha Motif -
Heard more in the film itself, this is a dark cello motif that represents the chaotically evil Feyd Rautha.

    (Harkonnen Arena - 0:00, 0:44)
    (Seduction - 0:00)

    Kwisatz Haderach Motif -
New dark three-note cello motif for the culmination of the Bene Gesserit breeding process; the Kwisatz Haderach. Also has a drum rhythm behind it. Blares loud in theaters and often acts as a counterpoint to other main themes. It represents both Paul and Feyd as they’re both prospects for the Kwisatz Haderach.

    (Harkonnen Arena - 4:48)
    (Travel South - 0:06)
    (Arrival - 0:00)
    (You Fought Well - 0:12)

    The Emperor’s Motif -
Loud and grand motif that represents the emperor of the known universe. Features choir and some brass which most of Dune doesn’t have.

    (The Emperor - 0:39)
