CGCJ reacted to BrotherSound in JWFan EXCLUSIVE: The Rise of Skywalker Partial Cue List Revealed
I’ve attempted to piece together what’s actually heard in the final cut, which is—believe it or not—even more convoluted than the November 11th version, with considerably more tracking and micro-editing of cues. The GEMA database reveals the order each cue initially appears in the film, but there’s so much tracking even that information isn’t as helpful as it might seem.

Oh, good catch! I’ll update my OST breakdown.
Actually, the spectrogram makes it seem that passage was edited in, so it’s likely to actually be sourced from 1M8. Unusually for a Williams OST track, ‘Anthem of Evil’ seems to contain a lot of short edits of sections of multiple cues and even pitch-shifting.

The Rise of Skywalker again...
This time I tried to "restore" the full cue 1M8 Approaching The Nursey (orig: Approaching The Emperor). In fact, this cue is still partially used in the movie in the right scene, though with a lot of editing. Also, in a very abbreviated form, this cue is present in the second part of the first track of the OST.
The scene has undergone many changes, in particular, the Palpatine's speech has been shortened, and his off-screen lines (in the first half of the scene) doesn't match the sync hints in the JW's sketch.
Also, it looks like some shots of the fleet in the middle of the scene have been added (in the movie Imperial March from 1M15 Vader's Castle sounds).
The second half of the scene is difficult to reconstruct, since the material was obviously re-shot/re-edited/re-dubbed, so I decided to leave almost only the sync hints (sorry for such kind of "restored" video, but this is a TROS).
Interestingly, the first appearance of the Psalm of the Sith in the unused part of the cue can be found. There is a similar but abbreviated string rendition in the "Join Me". The next rendition (horns and low string tremolos) is in the "Anthem of Evil" (I don’t know what cue it actually is).

CGCJ reacted to The Illustrious Jerry in Ludwig Göransson & Joseph Shirley's THE MANDALORIAN (2019-present)
Hey folks!
I made a few updates to The Music of The Mandalorian back in July, including the addition of revised write-ups for Chapter 5 and Chapter 6. These entries are a continuation of the series of posts which began back in April, with similar reviews having already been added for Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. In addition, the site hosts isolated score videos for notable sequences in Chapters 4, 8, 11 and 16. I hope to do more of these in the future. Of course, for anyone not yet familiar with the score, I recommend glancing through the thematic catalogue, which has been compiled for easy access by several fans of the score over the course of both seasons.
As for the remainder of the write-ups and timestamps, I do not expect to chip away at them significantly for some time, as there are still a lot of revisions to be made since they were originally posted nearly two years ago. Wow! Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 will likely take the most time, as my writing on Season 1's two-part finale was particularly extensive. Fortunately, reviews of the two volumes of music for Season 2 are more recent and will be posted promptly thereafter! The goal is to have these entries up in time for the release of The Book of Boba Fett in December. Also, there is what one could call a special feature in the works that I am very excited to share. More on that some other time though!
Thanks for reading and cheers!

Interestingly, Farewell to Hera features the cue for Omega's first time offworld from Cut and Run! (the second episode, 10 episodes before the rest of the track) I have no idea why. Was that a cue people were disappointed to not have on the first volume?

Specifically, the second and third lines appear to be 1:44-2:31 from ‘Join Me’, and the last line 2:08-2:20 in the track ‘Anthem of Evil’. I haven’t been able to place that version of the Kylo B-theme in any known material.

Made a mini-mockup of a small cue 3m23 No, No... No! from TFA. This cue is completely cut from the film, but some bits remain in one of the documentaries.
The cue is intended for the scene where Rey and Finn are trying to fix the ship and Finn talks about "his" base.
One interesting thing about this cue is the nice "quiet" use of the Pursuit theme in a slightly ironic context.
There are at least two versions of this cue - but the "revised" version is a slightly abridged version of the original, adapted for new cut. Something like this would look like a scene with this music (here I used the "Revised" version, but I had to adapt some shots, since the cue was even shorter than the scene).
And here is the original version separately, if anyone is interested.

CGCJ reacted to Jay in THE EIGER SANCTION (1975) - 2021 2-CD Expanded Edition from Intrada Records
Last night I went through the Blu Ray and jotted down when each bit of Williams' score starts and stops. @Omen II wasn't kidding - it's incredibly hard to hear the beginning and/or ending of some of the cues at times! Not really a surprise considering it's a mono mix, but still annoying.
Here's what I came up with:
Start End Length Intrada 0:00:17 0:03:27 3:10 01 Main Title 3:23 0:05:03 0:06:35 1:32 02 The Microfilm Killing (Film Version) 1:47 0:11:13 0:12:09 0:56 03 To The Dragon 1:30 0:19:27 0:22:27 3:00 05 Up The Drainpipe (Film Version) 3:38 0:26:14 0:27:24 1:10 06 Love Scene 4:05 0:28:17 0:29:00 0:43 09 The Unlocked Safe 1:37 0:29:40 0:30:11 0:31 09 The Unlocked Safe 0:40 0:35:25 0:36:55 1:30 10 Friends And Enemies (Film Version) 1:32 0:39:55 0:41:25 1:30 10 Friends And Enemies (Film Version) 1:51 0:46:32 0:48:11 1:39 11 Montage - Running With George 1:40 0:49:55 0:50:45 0:50 11 Montage - Running With George 0:56 0:50:49 0:52:16 1:27 11 Montage - Running With George 2:12 1:02:04 1:04:49 2:45 12 The Top Of The World (Film Version) 3:02 1:05:44 1:06:16 0:32 12 The Top Of The World (Film Version) 0:35 1:07:12 1:08:20 1:08 13 George Reveals Herself 1:17 1:16:07 1:17:29 1:22 16 The Eiger (Film Version) 1:53 1:34:36 1:36:39 2:03 19 Leading The Climb 2:46 1:37:37 1:39:07 1:30 20 The First Sunset 1:37 1:40:08 1:40:39 0:31 21 Sunrise 0:44 1:41:47 1:45:03 3:16 22 Falling And Swinging 3:16 1:46:19 1:47:14 0:55 22 Falling And Swinging 1:26 1:47:57 1:52:02 4:05 23 The Icy Ascent (Film Version) 4:13 1:54:18 1:55:51 1:33 24 Down The Ice Face 2:15 1:56:09 1:58:33 2:24 25 Freytag Onto Ice 2:24 1:59:15 1:59:43 0:28 26 Hanging By A Thread 3:47 2:02:09 2:02:48 0:39 2:06:41 2:08:47 2:06 27 End Title 2:16
That's only 43:15 of score in a film that runs 2:08:54! Talk about a very sparsely spotted film!
Since the Intrada disc 1 is 75:16, that's 32:01 of music John Williams wrote for the film that Eastwood didn't use in the final cut, or a little over 2/5ths of the score! Damn!
It was interesting to hear how many cues got shortened in the film. Most of the edits aren't noticeable when just watching the film. But many are obvious on examination. The worst one is in "The Sunrise", a very sloppy edit there! The start of the second "Running with George" cues had an awkward start in the film too. "Hanging By A Thread" is the only cue that Eastwood broke into two pieces, only using the beginning and ending bits of the cue, and dialing out the entire middle
The more you watch/listen to the film, the more blatantly obvious it becomes where Eastwood removed whole scenes or parts of scenes - awkward audio edits and some hasty ADR at times, etc.
We're so lucky the scoring masters were (nicely!) preserved, and we didn't get an "OST album followed by additional cues from the mono film stem" style release!
EDIT: Just realized I could do this:
Start End Length Intrada Unused 0:00:17 0:03:27 3:10 1 Main Title 3:23 0:13 0:05:03 0:06:35 1:32 2 The Microfilm Killing (Film Version) 1:47 0:15 0:11:13 0:12:09 0:56 3 To The Dragon 1:30 0:34 4 Felicity 1:26 1:26 4 Felicity 1:37 1:37 0:19:27 0:22:27 3:00 5 Up The Drainpipe (Film Version) 3:38 0:38 0:26:14 0:27:24 1:10 6 Love Scene 4:05 2:55 7 Art Masterpieces 0:56 0:56 7 Art Masterpieces 0:42 0:42 8 Hemlock And Jemima 3:17 3:17 0:28:17 0:29:00 0:43 9 The Unlocked Safe 1:37 0:54 0:29:40 0:30:11 0:31 9 The Unlocked Safe 0:40 0:09 0:35:25 0:36:55 1:30 10 Friends And Enemies (Film Version) 1:32 0:02 0:39:55 0:41:25 1:30 10 Friends And Enemies (Film Version) 1:51 0:21 0:46:32 0:48:11 1:39 11 Montage - Running With George 1:40 0:01 0:49:55 0:50:45 0:50 11 Montage - Running With George 0:56 0:06 0:50:49 0:52:16 1:27 11 Montage - Running With George 2:12 0:45 1:02:04 1:04:49 2:45 12 The Top Of The World (Film Version) 3:02 0:17 1:05:44 1:06:16 0:32 12 The Top Of The World (Film Version) 0:35 0:03 1:07:12 1:08:20 1:08 13 George Reveals Herself 1:17 0:09 14 The Car Chase (Fifty Miles Of Desert) 3:21 3:21 15 Hemlock’s Bonus 2:10 2:10 1:16:07 1:17:29 1:22 16 The Eiger (Film Version) 1:53 0:31 17 Hotel Bellevue 3:00 3:00 18 Anna On The Stairs 0:50 0:50 18 Anna On The Stairs 0:54 0:54 1:34:36 1:36:39 2:03 19 Leading The Climb 2:46 0:43 1:37:37 1:39:07 1:30 20 The First Sunset 1:37 0:07 1:40:08 1:40:39 0:31 21 Sunrise 0:44 0:13 1:41:47 1:45:03 3:16 22 Falling And Swinging 3:16 0:00 1:46:19 1:47:14 0:55 22 Falling And Swinging 1:26 0:31 1:47:57 1:52:02 4:05 23 The Icy Ascent (Film Version) 4:13 0:08 1:54:18 1:55:51 1:33 24 Down The Ice Face 2:15 0:42 1:56:09 1:58:33 2:24 25 Freytag Onto Ice 2:24 0:00 1:59:15 1:59:43 0:28 26 Hanging By A Thread 3:47 2:40 2:02:09 2:02:48 0:39 2:06:41 2:08:47 2:06 27 End Title 2:16 0:10 Totals: 43:15 1:15:16 32:01 -

Now The Rise of Skywalker...
Here is the mockup of the 2M1 Cockpit Dialogue, which was one of the first cues written for the film. It's believed that the cue is an early version of the Falcon Flight, and I thought so too, but judging by the sync hints in the sheets, this is not quite the case.
I, of course, cannot be sure, but it looks like in the early cut (when there were 9 reels) there was some scene with a Poe and Finn's flight BEFORE getting the spy's message and lightspeed skipping. At the same time, Skipping itself, apparently, was cut out at that moment. Then they decided to greatly reduce this scene, but return the chase. Again, this is speculation, but I like this theory.
Anyway, Williams moved some ideas into the Falcon Flight (same tempo, tremolo strings, Heroics theme). At the same time, 2M1 cue seems to have been recorded, since some bits can be heard in the film. In this case, it turns out that the Falcon Flight had 2 versions, and 1 insert, and they were all recorded for the first reel.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to fill in a lot of the missing video material, so I just inserted the hints from the sketch. Also, towards the end, some shots don't sync well (in particular, when TIEs arrive).
Also, many thanks to @BrotherSound for breakdown the cues, and their hypothetical chronological order.

CGCJ reacted to ragoz350 in RESTORED ISOLATED SCORE: Star Wars Saga (Unused Music Restored To Picture)
Anyway, I decided to collect all cues from Battle of Naboo sequence in one video. In fact, there is nothing new here, just wondering how it looks and sounds all together. All unrecorded/unreleased fragments are my mockups. Many thanks to @Permanent Waves for the restore videos (especially for Take To Your Ships, I wouldn't have guessed how to sync it).
Important notes:
The most unclear sync of the second half of the 6M4 The Big Army cue (the appearance of Darth Maul), this scene has clearly been heavily reworked. I had to skip the beginning of the duel, because it's not clear what should be between the 6M4 and 6M5 cues.
I also used 6M11 End Of Darth Maul cue, which is a new ending for the 6M10 cue, and was already written for the final cut. The earlier version lacked a short scene with the gungans, and the Maul's death underscores in much more optimistic way.
6M1 The Armies Face-Off (-2:06) 6M1X Randy's Forest Mist (0:29-0:50) 6M2 Lazer Fight (2:08-3:15) 6M3 Take To Your Ships (3:15-4:46) 6M4 The Big Army (4:46-7:06) 6M5 Droid Battle (7:11-9:42) 6M6 Up The Wire (9:42-10:21) 6M7 The Great Dual (10:21-13:14) 6M8-9 Qui-Gon's Noble End (13:14-15:34) 6M10 Blowups And The Death Of Darth Maul (15:40-17:10, w/o original ending) 6M11N End Of Darth Maul (17:09-end)
Btw, I just realized that the 6M1 insert (Randy's Forest Mist) appears to have been written for a different version of the cue (which sounds in the movie), but I don't know the truth.

CGCJ reacted to ragoz350 in RESTORED ISOLATED SCORE: Star Wars Saga (Unused Music Restored To Picture)
While I was trying to sync all Battle on Naboo stuff to the movie, I found fun thing. If the Gungans retreat scene is divided into two parts (split at the moment when Jar-Jar is on the tank), and in the first half a sketch is cut out where JJ is running from the cannonballs, then the scene is well syncing (as it seems to me) with the second half of 6M6 Up the Wire cue.
If this is true, then the scene has been heavily reworked, and now it's impossible to neatly cut it (balls appear out of nowhere), but I like this sync. In this video included the ending of 6M5 Droid Battle, 6M6 Up the Wire and 6M7 The Great Dual (partially my mockups).

CGCJ reacted to ragoz350 in RESTORED ISOLATED SCORE: Star Wars Saga (Unused Music Restored To Picture)
I tried to edit the cues 7M1 Dooku vs Obi-Wan and 7M2 Yoda Strikes Back, according to the sheet score. Of course, it's hardly possible to completely restore the score with the material that remained in the film (besides, it's not a fact that everything was recorded in the same way as written in the sheets), but it's possible to get a rough idea. I also "mockuped" a little missing fragment at 1:25-:35 and 1:38-:46.
Perhaps the most interesting thing here is that, according to the original intention, JW in 7M1 cue used active percussion rhythms only for Anakin's fighting, while Obi-Wan fights to the quiet rubbing the gong and timpani hits.
Also I included a 7M3 Finale here, along with my mockup of the one original piece, instead of insert with Imperial march (and also ultralittle fragment at 5:34-:37).
Again, thanks to @Manakin Skywalker for extracted music from the movie.

CGCJ reacted to BrotherSound in RESTORED ISOLATED SCORE: Star Wars Saga (Unused Music Restored To Picture)
So, I've been curious about how the Oracle would have fit into the Mustafar scenes. There's actually two quite different versions of the scene in the novelizations: the Rae Carson novelization has a longer version featuring Hux and Pryde and with more dialog between the Oracle and Kylo, and Kylo wades into the pond the Oracle appears in to find the Wayfinder on some kind of island or platform in the middle.
In the junior novelization, the Oracle talks to Kylo, but he never says a word in return. The Wayfinder is instead in Vader's castle or at least the ruins of it. There's also a confrontation between Kylo and his stormtroopers and the cultists before the battle breaks out.
I'm basing this restoration on the junior novelization version, since it seems to fit better with the unused music. I believe the majority of this music is 1M15 Vader's Castle, though at least some of it is from a cue mysteriously called Ready to be a Jedi! However, I believe a different cue, 1M6 Ren's Entrance, may have scored a longer version similar to the Carson novelization.

Returning to the prequels for a while...
some small detail...
I listened to "Are You a Jedi" from TPM a lot, and I didn't think that there might be any editing here, although this cue is a little slowed down in the film.
When I was looking at the score, I noticed one bar, which is absent on the recording (users on this board have probably known about this for a long time), where the general elegiac mood for a short moment gives way to a more playful one.
Honestly, it's difficult to understand whether this place was missed during the recording process, or cut out later. Anyway, I think it syncs with Anakin's objection to Shmi, ("Watto doesn't know I've built it...").
In the video, I had to cut out a pause in the dialogue, it seems that it matches better (marked it with b/w transition), although it is certainly not easy to find synchronization points here (for example, the cor anglais melody might have been intended for a longer shot with Shmi, who knows...)
If this really was editing, then this is perhaps the most "wise" editing in the entire film, the cue feeling some different way...

CGCJ reacted to BrotherSound in RESTORED ISOLATED SCORE: Star Wars Saga (Unused Music Restored To Picture)
Back with a new (and highly speculative) score restoration video for The Rise of Skywalker. 'Anthem of Evil' is a bit of a mystery: while one section near the end appears to be 6M12 Six Twelve, a cue for the destruction of Kijimi, it's still completely unknown what the first part is. But here's my take:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1J6N8q2VvRP57ETvuz9N8hXAlUMtIBgYe/view?usp=sharing
We can definitively say the first part of 'Anthem of Evil' is not 8M4 Psalm of the Sith, because there's sheet music for that cue fairly visible in one of the documentaries, and it actually matches music used in the middle of 'Join Me' instead.
@Falstaft recently expanded our list of known cues with several more, most or all of which appear to be choral or choral additions to other cues (e.g. 8M4C), and on this list is 8M1 Approaching the Throne #2, a cue which is not used in the final cut of the film. So, my speculation is that perhaps the first part of 'Anthem of Evil' is 8M1, for Rey walking into the Exegol temple and first encountering the Emperor, presumably a version without all the noisy thunder and lightning effects and running slightly longer.
