Also the first shot in the movie shows a friggin Star Destroyer with Vader onboard following her, she's not gonna lead them right to their base and she knows she's fucked so she tries passing the task off to someone trusted. You listen to and watch the actual movie and ignore the fanservice fanfiction.

Hi everyone, I mentioned I would do this in the Cantina Band thread a couple days ago.

I've been writing this series for a few months now over on Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki's discussions forums. Originally I envisioned it as an introduction to JW's music for mainstream Star Wars fans, which it has been great at. However, with the exception of a couple regulars, there's very little overlap between the community viewing my posts over there and the community here. Further, there's been increasingly interesting discoveries made and discussions in the comments. For these reasons, I've decided that it may be of interest to JWFans after all, and that there's really no harm in posting the series to both sites.

Since I already have 21 entries done I'll put them below now, along with some links to the original posts. I would still recommend checking out some of the original posts because there are some good discussions in the comments for a lot of them:

    Hi there again

As you can see I do also have an account on this forum. I have for many years now been researching and studying John Williams' music, mainly the score to Star Wars (1977), on my own. Looking through archives, articles, books, scores etc. to really understand and document the Star Wars score, its history and development, and the people involved. Being a critical editor and engraver of sheet music I also plan to do my own study score with a critical report for each cue of the score.

Thanks to your wonderful articles I got really inspired and finally started to look through these forums more frequently, and hopefully I'll start taking part in the discussions here.

For the last couple months I've been running a "Cue by Cue" series over on the star wars wiki where I've been doing an in depth write up on each cue of the original star wars score one by one, talking about its writing and recording history, showing what it would've played like if it was used as intended in the film, done a musical and thematic breakdown, and gone over its album release history.

Originally when I created this series I intended it as an introduction to star wars music for people who were not obsessive Williams score nerds, a gateway into Williams music for mainstream Star Wars fans. This was the reason I put it on the Star Wars wiki instead of on jwfan. That said, after running it for a couple months I'm now thinking that there's no harm in cross-posting future posts here, so I'll probably make a new thread for it and start doing so this weekend, if people are interested.

Anyway, one of the advantages of posting on a new platform is that it has a different audience, and some of those people may know things that we don't. These were recently left as comments on my most recent post about the first cantina band cue:

I didn't know at the time, I just observed the interaction between the lightsabers and the armor and drew a conclusion from that. I think I remember being a bit confused initially but then by the midway point I fully got what was happening

You are right that cortosis is rare and that the Jedi are unlikely to be familiar with it, the 'no shit' part is more referring to the armor shorting out their lightsabers not that its made out of cortosis

I just thought plenty of visual attention was given to the interaction that verbal attention would've only detracted from the sequence

Yeah the Kylo Ren motif popped up in an earlier episode too, and then multiple times in episode 5. Each time one of the notes is changed though, so it's not a direct quote, until the end of episode 5 where there is an actual direct quote. I think they're just repurposing it as a "Sith" theme of sorts, which is a really odd choice.

Continuing to use and expand upon that "Sith mystery" motif I mentioned in a previous post would've been a much better choice IMO.

EDIT: Unless there's a story reason for it.

There are at least a couple slightly obscure prequel motifs that show up multiple times in the show so far, all of which are in cues credited to Cameron Moody (guy's apparently only 21 and really knows his stuff!)

There's a one-off transitional melody in Attack of the Clones right before Anakin and Obi-Wan are introduced. It was also used as a "theme" for the Republic in SWTOR, so it's fitting in Acolyte as well, seemingly representing the Jedi. Although in this case it's generally only the first half of the full melody.

    AOTC:
    republic_clones.mp3
    The Acolyte:
    republic_acolyte.mp3

There's also a reoccurring motif in Revenge of the Sith that Frank Lehman dubbed the "Sith mystery" motif. Each time it appears in the film the notes are slightly changed up a bit. The version in The Acolyte is no different in that regard, being only 5 notes instead of 6.

    ROTS:
    sithmystery_sith.mp3
    The Acolyte:
    sithmystery_acolyte.mp3

I might as well also point out that about 2 years ago someone here (don't recall who) posted a video of Cameron Moody conducting a composition of his at only 19 (!), and people were commenting that he should work on a Star Wars project. Funny how that worked out, only a couple years later!

I noticed a few little bits that sort of approached a Williams theme, but then went in another direction.  I suppose that makes sense for a show set 100 years before the events Williams scored.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MrTx5pNjbe3crpmiaf_GbjpClPfrUUdD_b0d-b86rdY/htmlview

The release is by no means complete:
    Episode 1 is missing 02:32-03:13 (00:41), & 09:50-10:50 (01:00).
Episode 2 is missing 00:01-00:43 Recap (00:42) - Unsure if tracked.
Episode 3 is missing 00:01-01:00 Recap (00:59) - Unsure if tracked.

That's just for what I assume are entirely missing cues, almost every included cue is incomplete/cutdown in some way, mostly due to the combining of cues cutting off openings & endings.

There was also two things I wasn't able to locate:
    Meet Osha [00:29-End]
