I thought this would make for an interesting thread... so here it goes.

What are your favorite single shots in a movie? For me, it will always be this scene from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial:

The imagery of a bicycle in silhouette over the moon, accompanied in film by Williams' magnificent score, will always remain, in my opinion, the greatest single shot in cinema.

An immensely creepy and masterfully framed shot that establishes Hal as a force to be reckoned with.

Coming out of retirement briefly to share a few words about Daft Punk. Growing up, they were easily among my favorite musical artists and are probably still in my top five. Their sound and style influenced my music tastes more than any other group. Really would’ve loved to see them dabble more in the realm of film scoring; their work on TRON: Legacy is nothing short of remarkable. Gonna miss them a lot.

No hyperbole here. It's a genuinely great score.

Anyways, I think it's an absurd state of affairs when someone unironically questions your admiration for a critically acclaimed John Williams score, and then chalks up that admiration to mere hyperbole.

What the hell??? This is so shocking and heartbreaking. I had no idea how he had cancer, he was one of the best actors of his generation, and it just felt like his career was really taking off too. RIP Mr. Boseman, it's incredible what he was able to do while battling his own body.

Most folks know him from BP
but I discovered him in 42: JACKIE ROBINSON which was a surprise hit. It's a TERRIFIC film and he gave a wonderful performance.

During this quarantine I've been watching movies that got a lot of praise during my youth to see how they hold up ten years later. Yesterday was the day of...

I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. Sure, the plot is predictable and seen countless times on Dances With Wolves, The Last Samurai and Disney's Atlantis. But here the plot is merely an excuse for Cameron to take us on a journey to a detailed, rich world that still looks as beautiful and eye popping as in 2009.

Cameron's direction make us glued inside that world, feeling the impact that every plant, Na'Vi or animal has on that world.

I don't know about you, but I'm eagerly anticipating where he'll take us on the sequels.

The Godfathers Part 1 and 2 and The Lord of the Rings Parts 1, 2, and 3 are great and deserve their reputations.  And I say this without their ranking among my subjective favorites.
Let's separate the films themselves from the folks who think jumping on a convenient and obvious bandwagon is a sign of good taste and being edgy, shall we?.

I doubt it.  Abrams only came up with this after TLJ.  If it had been intended from the beginning it would have been in Trevorrow's script.

Don't tell me that Trevorrow's script was a hoax. Way too much time was spent on it just to distract the fans.  Didn't most of it leak after TROS came out?  What would be the point?

I don't know about you but I can agree to disagree because you're nuts.

Because his body blew up with the Death Star. There shouldn't be any coming back from that.
I don't like that Darth Maul lived after being cut in half and falling down a huge shaft either.
If they both survived then it's dumb that Qui Gon died.
Oh, yeah, Dark side blah blah blah.
    Dumb.

Secondly, the story doesn't need Palpatine.  Ren and Hux should have been the main villains of Episode 9.
Palpatine coming back and Hux becoming a spy were both dumb.

YES. I very much wanted her to be a nobody.  There was no reason to make her a Palpatine. The movie doesn't explain that she's a daughter of a Palpatine clone. That may have helped make it less dumb than thinking Palpatine had a family we had no idea existed, which is the impression everyone had until the novel came out.

Trevorrow or Rian Johnson should have done Episode 9.  Abrams fucked up.

I rewatched the trilogy recently and there’s no doubt in my mind that FOTR is the best of the three. Darn near perfect movie.
