Isle of Dogs - Anderson's latest stop-motion offering may not hit the highs of say Fantastic Mr. Fox, but it's still a great clever entertaining time, with memorable characters, Plus igreat animation, strong vocal performances, and some surprisingly really good political commentary. Plus it's really funny too. - 8 / 10

Wow, sad unexpected news. In addition to Amadeus, and Cuckoo's Nest, I saw Hair for the first time only a month ago. What a strange impressive counter-culture musical that film is. I've also been meaning to see Ragtime for some time, but haven't gotten around to it yet (that'll change soon, hopefully). Forman was a superb filmmaker.

Anything on the score? It's on my rent list.
Very nerve-racking, and fitting for a film about constant dread. It's nothing something I'd really want to listen on my own though, save for a cue or two, but it works great in the film.
As for the film itself, I'm a fan, I especially love the cinematography, it just makes the whole thing look "raw", and the editing is fantastic too. This time I also saw the film with my mom, who's not a big fan of war films, but she found the film effective enough.

Dumping Kraemer for Balfe. That's a HUGE downgrade.

The score has been growing-on me on more listens. I love the themes, and the music cameos. I would have liked to have seen Williams score this, but I'm quite fine that we got Silvestri instead.

Who suggested it was a failure?
The Box Office is different, but it is not a night and day different. Plenty of movies spend several weeks at No. 1--hell, Jumanji did it just a couple of months ago. Either way, my point is not the money films like Jaws, ET, etc made but the cultural impact that they had. The Post, BFG, Tintin, RPO, BoS (okay, everything since SPR) etc are all fine films but they are no where close to the league of his classics, both in terms of quality and influence. I suppose I find it a bit sad to see happening, but it is the fate of most artists who have great success early.
Not to the extent that they used to, especially when a film could say have a 6X multipler. Shorter theater runs ensure something like that doesn't happen though, but I digress.
Without sounding a bit biased (I think Spielberg's recent films are just as good as his older films), I'll say that as directors get older, things can change. Someone like Spielberg's 71. He doesn't really have much to prove at this point. It's true of a lot of artists as they get older, and move into comfortable terrority. Some make worse films, others just make samesy films and so-on.
For me, I mostly really enjoy those new Spielberg films, and find I get a lot out of them, so I can't complain.

I see that RPO was blown out of the water by a relatively small film this weekend. I wonder if Spielberg will ever come close to recapturing the glory of a true blockbuster that has real legs and cultural impact.
Well Spielberg will never have another E.T. or Jaws like run, because the box office is much different now, that doesn't mean RPO is a failure though. It dropped 41% this weekend, and is likely going to do over 600mww (it's blowing-up in China). A Quiet Place is doing great business too, but that's not really effecting RPO's box office. It's looking to have a solid run in terms of BO and legs. -
A Prophet - Pretty great French drama about an Iran Man that's sent to prison. Given the acclaim, I'm surprised it's taken me so long to see it. A long film, but I found most of it quite compelling - 8.5 / 10

Wait... did you really think I didn't know that?
Yeah, kinda. I assumed you were complaining about the music in the film in general. A lot of trailers are scored like that way honestly. My bad.

Wow.
Well, the music was terrible, utterly terrible.
But the actual film looks fun! I am digging the visual style they got going here, looks much better than Rogue One and TFA.
Seems appropriate to be the first Disney Summer Star Wars film instead of WinterThe music in the trailer was likely trailer music, save for the use of the SW theme at the end. I doubt it'll be in the actual score.

While Ready Player One is still going strong in theaters, Silvestri is just weeks away from releasing his next big film.
“It’s funny because I feel like everything is still shaking… the dust hasn’t quite settled just yet," he said last week by phone. "I wrapped Infinity War yesterday, and it was a really different experience than anything I’d done before, especially in regard to the approach and balancing quick shifts in tone."

This was (un)surprisingly hard to do.
1. The Last Jedi
2. Prisoner of Azkaban
3. The Force Awakens
4. Memoirs of a Geisha
5. Revenge of The Sith
6. Sorcerer's Stone
7. The Adventures of Tintin
8. War Horse
9. Lincoln
10. Catch Me if You Can / The Terminal (hard to choose between one or the other right now).

Ready Player One by Silvestri
War Horse by Williams

Watched the second season entirely yesterday. Really fun, captures the dark humorous tone of the books quite well. It was especially great to see The Carnivorous Carnival adapted.
As for the music, I quite liked what I heard, sounded dark and whimsical. I wouldn't mind listening to it on its own

My review. Definitely a great time at the cinemas.

How much you wanna bet he plans something the actors don't like and he gets dumped.

Personally I thought Tintin was great, and a lot of fun. Had some excellent set-pieces too.
However among Spielberg's recent films, Bridge of Spies is one that I really appreciate more, each time I watch it. There are so many great little touches that I notice on repeat viewing. I'm a fan of his "dramatic" period in general, though.

The reactions are overblown to be expected, and all of the fanboy whining really annoyed me. Personally I loved it. I thought it was the best Star Wars film in decades.
