  1. In terms of score, I prefer Silence of The Lambs, but neither are scores that I exactly revisit over and over again. They're effectively in the film, but less so on CD for me. I'm a fan of both films, and think they're excellent serial killer thrillers, but there's something terrific about the way The Silence of The Lambs handles its characters, and even the violence. It all feels so fleshed out, and the dialogue is quite rich. Makes the film even more rewarding to revisit. Speaking of which, Ted Levine doesn't get enough love as Buffalo Bill, he plays such a great psycho.
  2. If the only thing he ever wrote was the main title to Dead Ringer, he'd still be a fantastic composer. RIP.
  3. Planes, Trains & Automobiles is such a perfect comedy, and one of my favorite flicks. Heartwarming, funny, and yet most of all doesn't forget to make the audience feel for its character (John Candy was Oscar worthy IMO, I miss that guy). I enjoy some of his other films, but this is no doubt Hughes' finest film as a director. Not to mention, it's pretty much the only great thanksgiving film I can think of.
  4. Islands in the Stream by Jerry Goldsmith How to Train Your Dragon: The Lost World by John Powell
  5. In the Book it's based off, the title was meant to be a reference to the song "Beale Street Blues", so more of a figurative reference then anything.
  6. Saw If Beale Street Could Talk. Pretty much loved it, it was a beautiful film. My review. https://dailyuv.com/profile/2232/973934
  7. Dammit, had no idea he was even that ill. He was a huge influence in score releases, especially some of my absolute favorites. RIP and respect to Nick!
  8. Saw Vice over the weekend. Strange film narrative-wise, but Bale's performance was, wow, quite good. My review. https://dailyuv.com/973035
  9. Saw Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns over the holiday season. Enjoyed both, though Poppins was more delightful. My reviews. https://dailyuv.com/972351 https://dailyuv.com/972441
  10. Some of my favorites. My Best Friend's Wedding - James Newton Howard Groundhog Day - George Fenton Love Actually - Craig Armstrong Breakfast At Tiffany's - Henry Mancini Only You - Rachel Portman Joe Versus The Volcano - George Delerue Soapdish - Alan Silvestri Four Weddings and a Funeral - Richard Rodney Bennett Not my personal preference of film music, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I had a soft spot for that swelling type of mushy romantic music with sometimes guitars playing in the background.
  11. Escape From New York - John Carpenter Stripes - Elmer Bernstein Contact - Alan Silvestri The Abyss - Alan Silvestri
  12. Saw two movies last weekend, quite enjoyed both in different ways, and wrote reviews for them as well. First Ralph Breaks The Internet. https://dailyuv.com/970802 And then Widows. https://dailyuv.com/971038
  13. Wanted by Danny Elfman The Sister Brothers by Alexandre Desplat The Grand Budapest Hotel by Alexandre Desplat Flesh and Blood by Basil Poledouris Lincoln by John Williams Empire of The Sun by John Williams
  14. Just listened to it. Interesting score and discussion. I can't say I've ever heard of Studs Lonigan, and had no idea it was considered a top novel at one point. In fact I didn't even know the title until I explored Goldsmith's IMDb filmography years ago. Way way way before my time. As for the score itself, it sounds really good, but based off first impressions it probably wouldn't be considered top tier Goldsmith for me. I do see that even early on in his career he was exploring multiple different styles in a film. I think my favorite bit out of the music that I heard, was the "jauntier" version of the main title, which definitely reminds me of a western especially with that harmonic. Keep up the good work guys.
  15. The Conformist - Absolutely stunning. A thrilling unforgettable masterpiece with a fantastic lead performance by Jean-Louis Trintignant. Super mesmerizing as well. Also features truly fantastic cinematography and editing, a real 'trip". - 10 / 10
  16. Saw Fantastic Beasts 2 on Friday. Was quite disappointed. Not exactly "bad bad", but it felt like they attempted to cram too much into it, in order to set up future installments, which annoyed me. My review. https://dailyuv.com/970753
  17. I actually thought that was a pretty "sweet and nice moment". One of the rare times where they seem to show Mercury's "softer side". I liked it.
  18. Saw Bohemian Rhapsody last weekend. Enjoyed it overall, but I wasn't a huge fan either. The music scene were great, and Malek was fantastic, but I think they could have done something more interesting then just the standard biopic route they went. My review. https://dailyuv.com/970634
  19. Oh yeah absolutely. I saw the film years ago (it's not very good, but that's aside the point), and there was a lot of good sounding music that's been missing, that I'd love to see in an expanded edition sometime down the line.
  20. Jaws by John Williams Jaws 2 by John Williams Midnight Run by Danny Elfman Black Beauty by Danny Elfman
  21. Just did in fact. Really interesting, I had no idea about that Eidelman / Goldsmith story or how much involvement he had with Goldsmith, that Seattle fish bit gave me a particular chuckle. I should really listen to Christopher Columbus: The Discovery again.
  22. Lee was a giant, a real great personality, and he left his mark on comic books. He lived quite the life, and for that I thank him. RIP you true believers!
  23. Saw The Hate U Give yesterday. Thought it was a compelling teen drama. My review. https://dailyuv.com/969814
  24. Saw Venom last Tuesday. It was um... something. My review. https://dailyuv.com/969500
