The Potter scores are great, but the LOTR films are among the earliest films I saw in the cinemas, where I can recall actually remembering the music extensively. They definitely get my vote.
-
They claim "mutual disagreements", because Jackson didn't think that Shore's score worked for the film, though I'm sure there's more to it then that.

Dunkirk by Hans Zimmer - A lot of beeping and tension noises, but hey I kinda like it. Works wonders in the film too. -

Okja - This was fantastic. Can't believe it took me so long to watch it, ha. Gyllenhaal's performance got on my nerves, but once I viewed the character as being insane and crazy, that "high-pitched Joker like" voice made sense. 8.5 / 10 -
Awesome trailer. There's more of Hela (Blanchett) in it then the previous films. Also hearing The Hulk actually talk made the fan-nerd in me go crazy.

Looks like "callback the movie". Hopefully the references aren't so in your face in the actual thing, I trust Spielberg. Visuals should be great at least. Also Iron Giant is in this film? Wow, that's actually kinda awesome.

Heard was also great in Cutter's Way, a sleazy thriller with Jeff Bridges, and a little known film called Chilly Scenes of Winter. RIP!

Dunkirk - OMFG, they weren't kidding, it is the real deal. I'm glad it was only an hour & 45 minutes because otherwise I may have felt pure dread just like the soldiers. 10 / 10 -

Top Secret by Maurice Jarre -
If by some crazy chance Nolan somehow doesn't land a best director nomination, then he's probably never getting nominated, I'd say. Of course I have no idea what will actually happen. Well with 8 best picture nominees, it's not hard to get nominated. A lot of it depends on the subject matter. An acclaimed genre film is less likely to get a nomination compared to say a drama for example, with the few exceptions of course.

Hopper was very difficult to work with back then, and he hated the Hollywood system. I can only imagine he agreed to take credit and add scenes because he assumed the film would be a big hit due to Spielberg's involvement. Yes Spielberg can "eccentric" in his style from time to time like any director (I'm a big fan of course), I'm just saying there are certain sequences that don't completely feel like his own. Mind you this is just what I think.
-
I can imagine that Hopper directed maybe 25% of the film, though I'm only making an assumption here. Of course I never doubted Spielberg's ability to direct super-dark sequences, that scene just feels much more "grittier'" and difference from your average Spielberg sequence like that, but hey you never know. Well, Spielberg also worked on the script and it was his idea anyway, so that's not really surprising.
-
Tthe stacking chair sequence definitely doesn't feel very "Spielbergian", along with some smaller scenes. In my estimation I'd say about 80% or so of the film feels like Spielberg may have made it, which is a lot mind you. It's definitely his film though, because he came up with the concept and story at least.
-
Eh, I always assumed that it was a Spielberg / Hooper joint, it doesn't feel like a Spielberg film 100% of the way anyway, especially since there are a few darker moments that Spielberg usually wouldn't direct, especially back then. Spielberg himself didn't seem to care that he didn't get credit anyway.

I'm a bit reluctant to consider him for a nom because of his Inception snub, but he definitely deserves to be nominated at least.
