  1. I just think he was following studio demands to retread the themes, for better or mostly worse.
  2. The Big Brawl - Lalo Schifrin. Fun stuff. It's basically a follow-up to Enter The Dragon, similar to how Brubaker is kinda like Cool Hand Luke 2.0. The user who uploaded the Japanese only release on youtube deserves a cookie. Now if it only would get a proper re-release. The sound sucks! I listened to parts of the latest POTC score two days ago. It sounded very forgettable. It just basically feels like a Zimmer clone score, composed by someone who was obviously a protege / ghost-writer of his.
  3. Glad to see that Wonder Woman is well-received. The DCU might be on the right-track.
  4. Maybe not inappropriate, I just don't think it fits the character very-well. I'd prefer Wonder Woman's theme to be more mythological and epic sounding honestly, not some Zimmer style trailer cello music, as fun as it may be. Though that's just me personally, of course.
  5. Listened to the Wonder Woman score. Some fine moments, but for me it's just more RC-style music with loud noises, repeating percussion loops, and a lot of ear bursting action music. Wonder Woman's theme doesn't even seem to get an orchestral version disappointingly enough, and they still use that very inappropriate electric cello. Meh!
  6. In terms of Roy Budd scores I've listened to Get Carter, The Stone Killer, The Black Windmill, Fear is The Key, The Wild Geese. I listened to these five in a row when I first discovered his name, and went on a binge listening to his work. I've also listened to Kidnapped and Sinbad and The Eye of The Tiger (I know a lot of people who don't care for it), which are good examples of him doing more symphonic traditional orchestrated work as well.
  7. I'm a fan of all of his Star Trek scores. I loved how he approached just about every sequel he did, as opposed to other composers simply rehashing their work, Goldsmith usually attempted something a bit different.
  8. Star Trek V, which has slowly been growing in my book over Star Trek: TMP. It has everything. Several great themes, it's exciting, it's relaxing when it needs to be, and it's great to listen to on its own as well. There are so many to choose from though. Goldsmith had a great diverse filmography / discography of scores. It's been great to go through it.
  9. Giacchino puns are fun, but there obviously not for everyone.
  10. Under Siege 2 is good. It has a simple enough patriotic theme, but the action is as engaging as ever for Poledouris.
  11. I think Gia's pun are fun. Like anything some are better then others though. Gia will only reuse the themes if Marvel lets him. At this point the problem clearly lies not with the composers but the studio, who seem to have gone out of their way to say that they don't like recurring themes in their films aside for The Avengers. If Gia doesn't return for the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel for example, expect a new composers to come in and make an entirely new theme for the web-slinger.
  12. That theme just didn't fit the character very well, as much as I do enjoy it. Wonder Woman's theme (at least to me anyway) should sound a bit more "mythological or epic" sounding, not with an electric cello.
  13. It was a good track, but it started to fall apart near the end. I'm worried that the rest of the score will be just the RC sound with a good track here or there, not that I'm expecting great or even all that good music from the DC universe. Fingers crossed!
  14. Well Whedon's only directing a few scenes apparently, so I doubt he'll make a huge impact. Still he's a real pro to do in the first place. Hopefully the Snyders feel better. Condolences to them and their family.
  15. That was over a decade ago though. Time for a new genre film to win best original score (yeah not gonna happen anytime soon, I know, but hey a man can dream).
  16. Rey is a terrific character, and I can't wait to see what they do with her character in The Last Jedi.
  17. Score: Last Crusade (best themes & it's the one I listen to the most). Film: Raiders (still no doubt the best, although Crusade does come close).
  18. RIP! He was easily the silliest of the Bonds, but he had a good sense of humor and was a real gent. Indeed nobody does it better. Out of his Bond films my favorite was probably FYEO, although TSWLM was also fairly entertaining, just wish Bach was a better actress, otherwise it'd be a lot better. At least Jaws knew when to keep his mouth shut.
  19. Exodus (1960) - 7.5 / 10 Classic "epic", but not exactly a film I can say interested me all the way through. Gold's score (though it's surprisingly used a bit sparingly, then again it is a 3 hour film), and the production design are the best things about it. Good performances as well.
  20. And it'll win too. "See the academy not snobbish with genre films now". I trust Desplat to do something different & do it right, so if it's not scored like a space epic that's fine by me.
