  1. There are a lot of terrible Bond movies that have fewer redeeming features than No Time to Die… and I’m quite confident I’d prefer to rewatch any of them before watching this AI trash. Yavar
  2. I agree with all of this (the film really rubbed me the wrong way; easily my least favorite Spielberg film), with the exception of Hymn to the Fallen... And while I disagree with other comments made in this same post (the bookends are the worst part by far, of that horribly overrated film... "Tell me... I've been a good man." UGH.), this part about Hymn to the Fallen I agree with. It is SO overdone it makes me roll my eyes. I cannot stand it. I prefer the endless boring parts of the score (maybe my least favorite Williams score, ever?) to the overblown Hymn to the Fallen. Good for you, if you like it! But I'll stick with Giacchino Medal of Honor scores, or literally any other patriotic Americana Williams score besides this one. I like Lincoln, JFK, The Patriot, etc. just fine... And the best war film ever made is the original All Quiet on the Western Front. Yavar
  3. Honestly the first couple seasons of TNG have the best music. I even think Ron Jones's "Q Who?" > "Best of Both Worlds" in some ways, and that's definitely the high water mark of seasons 3 & 4, which have the next best music after the first two seasons... Chattaway's first score "Tin Man" is excellent and Ron Jones was still giving his all... but to be honest Dennis McCarthy was at his best by far in season 1 with scores like "Arsenal of Freedom". Screen Archives has that complete score in stock but alas I'm not finding any sound clips anywhere: https://www1.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/26712/STAR-TREK-THE-NEXT-GENERATION-ENCOUNTER-AT-FARPOINT-THE-ARSENAL-OF-FREEDOM-EXPANDED-EDITION/ I find the Don Davis score less memorable but it's on La-La Land's TNG Vol. 1 set, complete. Unfortunately I've checked around and that 3CD set seems to be going for $280 or more. Maybe keep an eye on Ebay if you liked the score. Yavar
  4. I think so! Hopefully Sahara happens at some point in the future. Yavar
  5. It's a good movie and a good twist that shouldn't be spoiled. Why, Varese??? (And kudos, Luke & Jay.) Yavar
  6. Huh! Probably just coincidence. Do we know whether John Barry was a fan of Jerry Goldsmith? (I realize Goldsmith expressed great admiration for Barry of course, but in this case Born Free came a year later than his score.) Yavar
  7. Wrong; he never ever said that. And I agree he should enjoy the time he has left... fortunately for us he genuinely enjoys writing music for films (or at least, for Spielberg films). Yavar
  8. So is early TNG, at times! Rob Bowman in particular did a lot of cool angles and dramatic lighting, as director. Oftentimes the writing in early TNG is very hit-or-miss, but the directing was actually far more interesting/striking than when the show "got good" (it become more homogenous and didn't swing for the fences directorially, as much). Yavar
  9. Plus it sounds like it could really use a new master. Isn't this one of the most-complained about loudness war ones? Yavar
  10. Since you brought it up... I DID try this score in the Kritzerland release with very high hopes, and I was pretty disappointed! I think I played it once or twice and it just didn't connect with me at all. Yavar
  11. Fingers crossed. Much as I appreciate Intrada, their Disney pipeline is slow enough that it would really be nice if Varese could at least keep expanding some of the Fox titles they have perpetuity album rights on. Yavar
  12. Isn’t it possible Varese’s perpetuity rights still somehow grant them access, just like how they’ve been able to keep expanding Warner Bros. titles even as every other label has been cut off? Yavar
  13. *only exceptions in the past 10 years or so. If you extend it 20 years there are others such as The Egyptian: The Deluxe Edition (2011) or the (non-Club) Stargate: The Deluxe Edition (2006). The Robe: The Deluxe Edition as well as their DE of Poltergeist II were just over 20 years ago (2003). I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking of off the top of my head... Yavar
  14. But Varese already released that: https://varesesarabande.com/products/killer-clowns-from-outer-space-reimagined?_pos=2&_psq=killer&_ss=e&_v=1.0 Cool project/album! Yavar
  15. Varese never said "horror"; they said "scary" and I think WLB definitely qualifies there. Huh. I'm not a big Silvestri fan in general but I really enjoyed this score in the film itself; he is channeling his inner Bernard Herrmann big time: I confess I never bought the original Varese album, because it was one of those that was *under* half an hour long! So I'm interested in this... Yavar
  16. "A model of economy and judicious spotting, the score clocks in at little more than a half hour in length" https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/cds/detail.cfm/CDID/22/Patton--The-Flight-of-the-Phoenix/ Judicious spotting is one of Jerry Goldsmith's trademarks. Only a handful of his scores don't fit on a single disc. Yavar
  17. For what it's worth, I find myself drawn to play The Legend of Zorro far more than The Mask of Zorro. My answer to this question might upset some people: Alan Silvestri's Back to the Future. Most of it is the definition of generic, to me. I don't like the main theme which repeats ad nauseam. I don't find it remotely interesting or engaging. It doesn't receive interesting development, for the most part. The score works well enough in the film (it certainly doesn't detract) but I think it could have been a lot better. BTTF3 is the only one of these scores that connects with me more, because it's a western and has new thematic material and variety. Yavar
  18. If this new edition is successful, I wonder if Young might be open to Intrada revisiting some of his other "album treatments"... Killing Season in particular I would love to be able to buy with a complete score/album program pairing. Yavar
  19. Pretty cool that Intrada has now released the original Species score complete, to join their complete release of the Shearmur sequel score from a few years ago (still available from their site with a couple hundred copies left). I know Chris Young usually opposes complete & chronological releases of his music, so it's nice that he acquiesced for this one... I guess since Intrada was impressively able to fit his 68 min original album program on Disc 2 as well. It all barely fits on 2CDs! Yavar
  20. Yeah, I like bits and pieces of the first two synth scores by Brad Fiedel, and they generally work okay in the films themselves... but (for me anyways) Marco Beltrami was a huge improvement. Yavar
  21. Actually if we are talking Beltrami sequel scores controlled by Varese which they could expand, Terminator 3 interests me more than Blade II. Yavar
  22. Obviously that's not what I'm saying. But when you write, "It's probably another forgotten 80s/90s horror stuff by Richard Band or someone similar... I think it's just two direct-to-VHS horror movies by less famous composers" it's like you haven't been paying much attention *at all* to what they have been releasing for years. "Another"... after what? The only thing I can think of even remotely matching your description is I guess the Deluxe Edition of April Fool's Day by Charles Bernstein? But there certainly hasn't been a pattern of these. And no, Varese doesn't tend to trumpet details like "expansion of a blockbuster score by a big name composer" when it's just the announcement of an announcement, so them failing to do so indicates precisely nothing at all. The only clue we have so far is "scary" -- my best guess is another Beltrami expansion but my greatest hope would be them working out a deal with Disney to expand The Final Conflict/The Other/The Mephisto Waltz or maybe even The 13th Warrior... Yavar
  23. The release hasn't happened yet. Not even their normal clue game has happened yet (that usually occurs the Wednesday before). I don't follow your logic. When is the last time Varese released the score to a direct-to-VHS horror movie? Yavar
  24. Kind of an odd thing to say, since Varese Sarabande hasn't released a Richard Band album since 1987... in fact while they released a half dozen Richard Band scores on LP, I'm not even sure whether Varese ever put out one of his scores on CD! Intrada tackled most of those, expanding and remastering them... I'm honestly a little stumped... maybe a Beltrami score like Blade II? Lots of candidates I think of are Disney-owned (including Fox titles) and I don't know that last time Varese expanded a Disney-owned score. But if possible, The Mephisto Waltz and The Other are what I want most... or The Final Conflict complete, of course. Yavar
