I'm sure it will also be a blu-ray, which is a standard medium for Deutsche Grammophon concert releases. They recorded it with nine UHD cameras.

According to my colleagues and fellow musicians, the parking lot is all reserved for the film crew... so I would bet on it 😉😏

I have something for you guys to warm up to before the upcoming concerts, directly from the Musikverein
Some pics from the rehearsals with the maestro himself (at his best!!) and Anne-Sophie Mutter.. It sounds really amazing and very much looking  forward to the Encores 😁😉

I really hope they release a CD. Based on Anne-Sophie's relationship with Deutsche Grammophon, as well as DG showing this past year that they're willing to release JW albums (both the Dudamel and ASM albums), I'd say there's a strong possibility. The fact that this is such a historic event for Williams would increase the chances, I would think.

Plus, from the rehearsals as well as two concerts, they would no doubt be able to assemble an ideal final product. It's not like it could be some under-rehearsed one-night-only thing.

The picture posted earlier of JW sitting on the Musikverein stage appears to show that there are mics present, which bodes well for things.

    Thank you Martinland!

It was my first CD, bought in 1996 - previously I had a few Williams' soundtracks on cassettes As for the meeting, as I use the hospitality of my cousin and his family, I don't plan any meetings after the concerts - it wouldn't be too elegant on my part to leave them like that on Saturday. And on Sunday I'm leaving Vienna very soon after the concert. Although I'm sure JWFan Vienna meeting will be wonderful!

I wish you and everyone present the most beautiful concert in your life!

Anne-Sophie confirmed in interview two months ago that the concerts will also be filmed. I hope it wasn't her wishful thinking and she knew what she was saying.

Yes, I will be his guest artist. That’s so amazing, isn’t it? I mean, this is John Williams’ European debut! Other than in London, he has never conducted in the Old World. Everything will be filmed and recorded, it’s going to be spectacular.

Thanks for sharing your amazing dream - I had several interesting dreams relating to John Williams, after our first encounter (literally!) in London in 1996 - I "met" him several times again in fantasy as well as London locations and talked to him in my dreams. *smile*

Anyway - will we see each other after the concert?

In any case, I like your avatar, Pawel - it was one of my earlier, treasured albums; listened to it over and over again right after it came out - and I adore the cover artwork by Drew, my favourite poster artist; even did a blow-up/poster of sorts from it, right in the early 90s.

    Martin
Nice! We will be there! (Goldener Saal? Im Saal?)

Haha, for a second I thought you meant the *real* John Williams. (our daughter would have liked that - but I'm sure she will be delighted to have our picture taken with your special creation! And you :-D)

I had a dream last night in which I saw John Williams in a photo shoot with… Riccardo Muti under the window of my old apartment. I thought that I had to get down quickly, because such an opportunity to meet my idol won’t happen again. I don't remember any more, I just woke up. You can imagine my surprise when I looked here in the morning and saw these pictures.

It's a totally surreal situation - in a few days I'll be at two John Williams' concerts, with one of the world's best orchestras performing his compositions. If it's really filmed, it’ll be a souvenir for life. It’s very cool to see Maestro in great form!

I'm hoping that Stephane Deneve eventually releases a cycle of Williams recordings. From what I can tell he's a huge JW fan as well as a friend, and with his new position as Music Director of St. Louis Symphony, he's definitely a "somebody" in the classical music world. He just took up his post at the start of the 2019-20 season and within just a few months he had brought JW out to conduct.

I saw him and JW share conducting duties in Philly in 2018, which was my first (and probably only) time ever seeing the Maestro live. Deneve will definitely be one to watch out for, in the coming years and decades. He's only 48, and I have a feeling he'll be one of Williams' loudest champions in the concert hall. Slatkin is also obviously a fan, but he's getting old. Until more inevitably crop up, I'd say that Dudamel and Deneve are the "next generation" guys we should expect to hopefully propel Williams more into the classical mainstream. For instance, Deneve is in his inaugural season at STL and he has already done a regular concert program which included "Hedwig's Theme", alongside other more established works.

It's also worth noting that in this past decade, Deneve put out an acclaimed series of Roussel recordings for Naxos; so, he is definitely willing to record stuff that is more obscure/that is not often done.

Okay, I'm watching the movie in 9 hours. This is a special moment. The end of the saga, perhaps the last of John Williams' great epic scores. I haven't listened to FYC because I think it's worth being patient. I think I'll write here about my feelings about the music in the movie after the screening.

I think we should all remember one thing: nomination is also a kind of award. For many filmakres it's the biggest achievement of their entire career. That's why it's no longer said that "the winner is", but "Oscar goes to". And that's why 51, the number of Williams' nominations so far, is so important. I hope it will be 52 next week.
