I guess an opening credits theme from Howard Shore is better than nothing.
 
Depending on how abstract the opening credit sequence is, there could be something nice about the Middle Earth cycle (in terms of Howard Shore music) opening with "absolute" music (the Rings of Power opening credits) and ending with absolute music (Bilbo's Song).
 
I still hope he could pull a Pergulesi and give us Rohirrim stuff in the future!

If Doug is here/can elaborate... that would be greatly appreciated. I'm still very excited in the show and have faith it'll be good.... but this has totally taken the wind out of my sails. Shore's music was 80% of what I was looking forward to.

No disrespect to Mr McCreary, but after hearing those pieces, I sense quite a few people watching this series are about to realize just how important Shore's music was to the success of the films.

It's not a whole different take. The showrunners have said on many occasions that they want to make something that can be appreciated alongside the existing movies, it's just too legally complicated to connect directly to them for now.

Its in this kind of weird limbo where the overall design aesthetic is similar, actors were cast for their likeness of Jackson's cast (Morfydd Clark is to be to Cate Blanchett was Martin Freeman was to Sir Ian Holm) and Howard Shore is scoring the opening logos. So its definitely trying to be as similar as they possibly can.

For certain? No, we absolutely don't know anything about it for certain, unfortunately.
 
Reports were that Howard Shore is collaborating with Bear McCreary, but neither composer's name should be taken as "certain." Can the board's McCrearites tell whether he could have realistically squeezed Rings of Power into his schedule?

Fellowship reported and even shared the production document in question. But otherwise it wasn’t reported elsewhere. The other names were, and I think there’s little question that Elanor, Marigold and Largo Brandyfoot, Poppy Proudfellow and Sadoc Burrows are here to stay.
 
Fellowship also reported what now seems a no-brainer, which is that Pharazon’s son, Kemen, is schtupping Earien. The Wagnerian in me is laughing in Rienzi.

Its very hard to tell if that one was due to Vanity Fair seeing episodes/footage with a Howard Shore temp track or a genuine score.

The third and main teaser was fine, sometimes even great. Much better than the previous two for sure.
Still my fears and worries for the series remain the same

That's the question to rule them all, isn't it? Including the pseudo-Ring theme and kinda-Gondor, there's still no telling if any of this will actually reflect the show at all.

I had suspected as much, and it has since been pointed out to me. Its nice to see it spelled-out, though.

Indeed, the first four notes are the Weakness and Redemption pitches, which in its placement and major setting would be a hint to Rivendell. But the following song is actually built off the same pitches in reverse order.
