Spielberg talked about a Western without clichés.(That's impossible in my opinion.) Maybe the script already exists.

I hope Spielberg has a script ready and give it to Williams. Maybe suggest him to write a few themes. That would be more than enough.

    Right.
The last time I saw a movie scored by Williams was last year the re-screening of Revenge of the Sith. And it was a blast, especially the music.

Sorry to say, but no other composer of modern action music manages that excellence and uplift, that Williams' film music provides.
    At least for me.

kingtolkien reacted to Maurizio in Looking for Dudamel conducting Leaving Home from Superman Footage
A suite from Superman would be amazing and a lot of material is already prepared in concert format, so it'd be just a matter of proofreading and engraving it. In my ideal world, it would be like this:

    I. Superman March
    II. The Planet Krypton
    III. Leaving Home
    IV. March of the Villains
    V. Love Theme

Now, in the very ideal world, Williams would've prepared a 45-minute symphonic poem that would also include "Trip to the Earth," "The Fortress of Solitude," and the "Flying Sequence."

Funny that Kubrick would select Williams and not Goldsmith for a thriller. Anyway I really wish he would write the score for Titanic and Up.

kingtolkien reacted to Maurizio in Movies that almost had a John Williams score.
It was a rumour that circulated back then I think, but I never found actual evidence anywhere in all these years.  I asked @Maestro if he ever stumbled on anything about this when researching for his book, but he too never found anything. I don’t know if he asked JW directly about it, though.

It’s entirely possible that Kubrick toyed with the idea of commissioning an original score to an established composer given that The Shining was for him a project with more pronounced commercial ambition after the failure of Barry Lyndon, therefore he may have thought that having the top film composer on such film would’ve helped, but that’s just wild speculation on my part. Anyway, I think Kubrick settled very early in the process on several of the repertoire pieces he ended up using and given how specific he was about music, I suppose that was his idea from the get-go.

kingtolkien reacted to BB-8 in Vienna New Year's Concert 2026
Yes, I agree, the music director of New York's MET is a little over-rated and seems to be partying and posing all the time. Together with Dudamel taking over the NY Phil, this could easily get too much...

    Has anybody saw this yesterday?
I thought it was the worst new years concert ever.
I did not like the conductor at all and orchestra members didnot seem to pay much attention to him. They could probably had many rehearsals though. I also found the selections not to my liking.
    What do you think?

I would welcome any expansion worked by Mike Matessino.
I think that at some point the Indiana Jones scores and the Star wars scores will be expanded by Mike but I hope it will be quite soon. 2026 the Indiana jones scores and 2027 all star wars films.
Apart form all these I would like some of hisscores from the 60's and 70's and the Oliver Stone films would be wonderful. Maybe Angela's ashes, Seven years in Tibet, anything really.

I am so happy about this. I hope he composes the whole score and not have work by others for different parts of the film where variations of themes will be sufficient. And come on give the man his final Oscar.

I really can't stand this guy, his writing is incredibly obnoxious and ignorant. Not even to mention his gossip page where he enjoys spreading pretty malicious (and most likely untrue) gossip about anyone and everyone he can in the music world.

That he calls Williams a "klepto", contrary to his article's title, is the entire reason why people turn away from classical music and look at it as snobby and elitist. To me,  his writing comes across as so laughably infantile that it sounds like something Rita Skeeter would write in Harry Potter.
