crlbrg reacted to crumbs in Mangold: Asked JW for "big fat album" for Indy 5 with "as many cues as John can bear," also describes score & sound mix
Mangold just posted some very interesting tweets!
Not only has he raised the idea of a "big fat album" with JW's team (in response to questions about a complete soundtrack), he also describes the score as "heroic, bombastic, sly, majestic, sinister, romantic & screwball!"
And to allay fears of another inaudible TFA/TROS mess, he's reassured fans about the sound mix:
Just imagine if Mangold's the guy who finally convinces JW to release a 2CD OST, or even encourages JW to release an expansion alongside his regular OST!
Or at the very least, bonus tracks on the digital album...

crlbrg reacted to Bayesian in All-Star ‘Peter Gunn’ Session With John Williams, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock Pays Tribute to Henry Mancini
It must have been a bit surreal for him to be doing session work, so to speak, at this stage in his career—a fun little time warp. I’m looking forward to this album!

crlbrg reacted to Thor in All-Star ‘Peter Gunn’ Session With John Williams, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock Pays Tribute to Henry Mancini
I just saw this shared on social media. Very cool! Williams and Jones already performed the GUNN theme live in a Mancini tribute concert some 4-5 years ago, but gotta dig the line-up of this recording session for an actual new Mancinin tribute album. Just wish the videos of the recording session itself lasted longer.

crlbrg reacted to Jay in New Violin arrangement of Helena's Theme performed by Anne-Sophie Mutter recorded for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
It would be nice if this becomes the first Williams score to get an 80-120 minutes OST album on digital platforms like other big blockbuster scores of the modern era do

crlbrg reacted to Manakin Skywalker in Hook
I have the inserts on my channel and they're not causing any issues either. So I do believe length is the only factor here.

JW wrote and recorded most of the score for an early, unfinished version of the film (before WETA finished the VFX).
As post-production continued, the edit and animation changed and the early score presumably didn't fit the finalised renders. So JW came back and rescored this newer version of the film. He didn't score the film from scratch, but I'd guess most cues needed timing adjustments and new recordings.
Would be interesting to know how many cues from the early sessions made it through to the final cut.

It was recorded Friday, February 10th: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cois1eFPJx-/
The arrangement was then performed live 4 days later in San Francisco at the 'John Williams with Anne-Sophie Mutter' concert on February 14th.

crlbrg reacted to artguy360 in Indiana Jones 5 TV spot music could be from the new score
I think so too but I'm not betting any of my nuts.

It has those prominent snare drums with the catchy new rhythm, too. This wasn't present (or was inaudible) in the film recordings, so it seems highly likely they've used an Indy 5 recording for the trailer.
Notice the prominent rhythm on the drums in newer recordings:
It's either missing or barely audible in the films:
I highly doubt they'd licence some random concert performance for this trailer.
Clearly it's somewhat enhanced, but it sounds like a vastly more dynamic recording than Crystal Skull!

Anyone could take JW score and edit it with epic_drms.wav..... Remember Jedi Steps?

crlbrg reacted to Smeltington in JW is writing a new violin concerto for Anne-Sophie Mutter - "Violin Concerto No. 2"
I didn't understand what they were saying, but I listened to the whole thing anyway. I can't explain why I did that.

crlbrg reacted to Bayesian in New Williams interview on Gramophone magazine
My copy arrived, finally! I took pics of the relevant pages and resized them to keep the text legible while also shrinking their file size. The entire issue looks like a great read -- the folks at Gramophone did a fantastic job, as usual.
There are several articles that feature or discuss JW, which means a lot of pics to upload. I'll break it up over two or three posts.
Next batch of pics...
And final batch. Enjoy!

crlbrg reacted to Martinland in ACROSS THE STARS - Williams / Mutter collaboration album
Never heard better live acoustics (and I've been to a few concert halls) ... it was heaven, couldn't listen to recordings for weeks afterwards; just my 2 cents...

Netrebko's entrance received a John Williams soundtrack.
How ironic.
