Rankings are only my fourth favorite thing.
It's boring but I don't see how I can go with anything other than Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Front to back, top to bottom.
There are other Jerry scores I love, but nothing else really comes close.
I think I might have a slightly harder time with Williams. But I might like Star Trek: The Motion Picture more than those, too. (Maybe.)
What IS this? Other than gorgeous?
The Agony and the Ecstasy is by Alex North.

Voted Jaws.

I don't know how someone who claimed to "not understand" Star Trek could have written a theme so absolutely perfect for it.
That's exactly why the theme is so good.

Right...

Nah, then I'll get less for them on Discogs.

So Goldsmith might well have heard at least that version.
That recording is quite disappointing, though.

And yes, I did get Lady Jane upon your recommendation, but I didn’t memorize the cue names.
What do you think about it?

Planet of the Apes
I'd consider purchasing this if it got a separate release, but don't tell Naive Old Fart.

I don't think it's my favourite score, but we'll never know as I'm not into ranking.

Rankings rule!
Life's too short.

All I can say is Stephen Oliver's The Hunt is the best.

What is your favourite JG score?
I'm not into ranking stuff, so I can't really answer that.

This album pretty much does the same, but for three solo instruments.
We don't know that though, do we? Reimagined could just mean arranged for a different ensemble, which I guess it does.

Not to nitpick, but the notion of "Reimagined" irks me.
I'd love arrangements that take some tasteful liberties.

Sounds like a Bryan Adams song.

How do you feel about historians who study the personal lives of classical composers (or any other artist) in immense detail, researching their private letters/correspondences, analysing their draft manuscripts, and interviewing surviving collaborators/family members/friends, all for the sake of gaining a greater understanding of the artist as a person, and thus being able to appreciate their art/music on a deeper level?
Just want to point out the obvious difference between a trained historian and a fan.

He could have been a good composer!

But the blurb leaves out the most important information -- who did the arrangements? Pedroni for all of them (he's listed with transcription in the actual YouTube clip itself)?
I think Pedroni arranged the earlier JW album, not sure about the Morricone.
-
Pedroni and Andon already did a 2-CD duo album with music by Morricone, and although it's good it's not something I listen to in one go.

I was working on the music of official Star Wars projects so got permission to study the originals. It's crazy to think I was sitting alone with the Herb Spencer original pencil scores and could literally have changed it if I felt like it.
Cool, but did you really need to study the originals? I assume there's photocopies available.

I was listening to some sections of the Colin Davis-conducted Sibelius symphonies that @Incanus gave me some years ago in London. Lovely.

Not the RCA set, I hope.
Your Favourite Jerry Goldsmith Score

Indeed, I didn't see it was the same piece posted twice. I'm afraid it's too repetitive to me.
