Darth Mulder replied to DangerMotif's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Even The BFG has beautiful music...but it's autopilot. This means nothing. -

He's 90 years old and his forgetfulness is perhaps the beginning of something worse. -
The Definitive John Williams Plagiarism/Homage Thread

This case is a bit complicated. Across the Stars come from Hook Theme. It's fun to imagine that Williams is a player of The Elder Scrolls...or maybe Spielberg. You know, Williams came to Spielberg's house to visit him and Steven is playing the game. We all had friends who wouldn't let us play, just to watch. So Johnny looks over Steven's shoulder and thinks: „This tune is awesome. Maybe I could "borrow it" sometime. To reassure people in the new millennium that I'm still a genius.“ (Devilish laugh) -

He probably does not consult with anyone about what he will say before the performance. He improvises, which is remarkable at his age. Someone should mention to him these details. -

This sounds like Don Davis to me. -
The music in War Horse is really bad. I prefer Patriot.

I don't remember this score well. This short moment is brilliant. With a slightly altered tone, it can work as a victory motif. -
John Williams Composer Fee? How much per film?

In an interview for Home Alone, he says that the fee is not important to him if he likes the film. Some productions can't pay much. I rather wonder if he would have hired an orchestra for his own money in a low-budget film. What does it mean that he is the producer of his music? This is variable. There was certainly a period when he was the highest paid composer. It's hard to say which period of his career it was. After the success of Titanic, James Horner was the highest paid composer in Hollywood. Now, or in the past decades, it was probably Zimmer. -
There are always composed more versions to choose from.

It's quite possible he has something writen that hasn't been used before. I think that Summon the Heroes was composed in 1988 and not published until 1996.

I've been thinking about it too. So, how to propose it to the official organisers of the Olympic Games???

This always reminded me Jurassic Park Theme. -
Because the composer and conductor is 90 years old. Production cannot wait.

Yeah, I see. Who really wants to see an old fashioned adventure movie with almost octogenarian leading actor? Even I have mixed feelings about all this. I'm afraid of a change in tone without Spielberg.

For TFA teaser he composed original music. It was nothing special, just preparation for the fanfare. I expect something similar now as well.
