I think this is a short term question and we should be so lucky to still be here in 5 years annoyed that John Williams is going "This Jabba the Hutt show really afforded me the great good fortune of writing the old slug his first theme. I just want to write a theme for Jabby!"

DrTenma reacted to rough cut in John Williams' new HAN SOLO AND THE PRINCESS arrangement (Debuted 2018)
I guess whoever runs the account “johnwilliamsplaylist” hasn't been creating John Williams playlists for very long… I can see how someone would think that the 2018 arrangement is the first original suite, considering that the actual first suite isn’t on any of the ESB OSTs, but come on, this is a rookie mistake.

Guys, this is clearly Lucas returning to the Star Wars franchise, with Johnny handling the score.

Since this year marks the 20th anniversary of Catch Me If You Can, and the 25th anniversary of Amistad, and the 35th anniversary of The Witches of Eastwick, those three are my personal hopes. Aside from those three guesses, I am all for anything!

    Exciting news!

Since we have Rogue One and Solo expanded, I really hope there is at least a start on Williams' Star Wars...maybe 1 trilogy this year. I know, I know...I'm dreaming.

If there's no Star Wars at all, then my guesses are:

    Cinderella Liberty
Born on the Fourth of July
    Nixon
    Amistad
    Catch Me If You Can

I could see Jaws and Mr. Chips coming back this year. But those aren’t “new”.

I hope we get the Patriot.
Perseverance should be done with Eastwick.
With Indy 5 coming, a box set of 1-4 would make a great Christmas gift.

The latest episode of Maurizio's great podcast is a fascinating talk about the behind the scenes work involved in adapting Williams' score to the Live To Projection concert format, and is a great listen from start to end.

Rogue One getting an expansion, and the amount of music released for Mando Season 1 I would assume in pretty strong evidence that the fees were never actually the issue here. It's glaringly obvious that Williams was the primary factor holding these expansions back. And as I've said a couple times before, it's entirely possible that he has come around, it's just going to take probably half a decade to expand *9* films. For all we know they could have been in the works already for the past year or two. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Whenever we talk about the SW sequel /Prequel/Indiana Jones scores getting an expanded release , there's always people that say that the re-use fees would be too expensive and nobody is interested in making the investment or that it wouldn't be profitable enough.

Why does this reasoning ONLY apples to Williams scores.

MOST scores recorded nowadays get complete 2 c.d./complete  releases right off the bat (including the non Williams Spielberg score Ready Player One) , or within a few years of the original OST (including Rogue One and Solo, both Star Wars movie scores) . Videogame music get lavish 10 c.d. releases with every single cue/alternate/demo ever recorded.  TV scores (like Mandalorian) get complete OST's of every seasons right away.

So why is Williams  the EXCEPTION, it's like nah the re-uses fees are too expensive and nobody would want to pay that. Do all these other composers use special orchestras that have no re-use fees or something? Why does this re-use fee excuse and "might not make enough profit" applies only to Williams and why is it so freaking complicated compared to other composer's music?

Nicholas Britell to Score Disney+’s ‘Rogue One’ Prequel Series ‘Andor’

Nicholas Britell (Succession, Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, Don’t Look Up, Cruella, Vice, The Big Short, The Underground Railroad) has been tapped to score the upcoming Disney+ original series Andor. The show is developed by Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) and stars Diego Luna who will reprise his role of Cassian Andor from 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, as well as Stellan Skarsgard, Denise Gough, Fiona Shaw and Kyle Soller. The Lucasfilm production takes place five years before the events of Rogue One. No plot details have been announced yet. Gilroy also serves as the project’s showrunner and additional writers include Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), Beau Willimon (House of Cards) and Stephen Schiff (The Americans). Andor is set to premiere this year on Disney+.

Britell also has Benjamin Millepied’s feature Carmen (to premiere this year), Barry Jenkins’ The Lion King prequel and the HBO limited series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dinasty  (to premiere on March 10) coming up and will also return to score the fourth season of HBO’s Succession.

Well, now that we got expansions for both anthology films, plus even the games and shows are getting extensive albums now, there's no doubt in my mind that JW himself was the only factor holding expansions of his scores back. And if when Mike Matessino said that "everyone knows they should happen" he was also referring to JW, then I think the only factor holding these releases back now is just due to the amount of time in which it will take to assemble them. I would not at all be surprised if they've been working on something for a while now, and it's just taking a long time due to the massive girth of material.

Great news, the 30-second silences in some tracks won't be silences anymore, we'll get some cracks and pops!

Starting to wonder if those 2 minutes of cut music at the beginning of "Scariff Antenna Alignment (Alternate)" were not cut because it couldn't all fit on size 2 of that 4th vinyl...

To me The Witches of Eastwick is such a perfect OST.
It fulfills my requirements for that:
I like listening to it from beginning to end. The way the themes are introduced and handled makes sense to me. No feeling of much redundancy. Great highlights and dedicated concert suites for major themes. I don't miss anything substancial what makes me long for an expansion. No songs

I think it's so interesting because we thought the Solo expansion only happened because that was recorded in London

Now that we know LA-recorded scores are on the table to Disney Records to fund expansions of, it's even more baffling they'd make this happen before our Johnny's scores
