DrTenma reacted to rough cut in The Book of Boba Fett (Disney+ Series)
Just to be clear, it is not the way the dance was performed that was funny to me, rather how it was handled, first just a few of them dancing and then more and more joined in, in what I can only call a “Kumbaya” moment. To me, it didn’t really come naturally in the edit/story.
It was too much for me.
I s also thought the montage where Boba learned to stick fight was shoddily handled. I love a good montage as much as the next guy, but I found this to be slow and unengaging.
Also, Boba’s faux sign language/simplified English felt dumb to a point I can not explain. “Me stop train” and then pointing his hand towards his head up palm. Sigh. Who was this for - both the sign language and the broken English? For the audience? Or for the Tuskens? If the latter, what part did they understand? His made up sign language? I guess so, because if not then why not just speak English all the time? And if they didn’t understand English, why speak in that broken English at all?
Cringe.
I don’t have much criticism from a Star Wars point of view, more about how it’s directed I guess.
But I’d welcome a speculation about how they first started to write a script for this.
- ”OK, so let’s do the Boba Fett series! Any ideas for a story?”
- ”Hell yeah, let’s have him doing bounty hunting across the universe, taking impossible bounties and having cool adventures on strange new planets, and perhaps we could create a story about a moral conundrum about bounty hunting, maybe have him hunt for something he doesn’t want to hunt…”
- ”Um, we already did that…”

DrTenma got a reaction from Edmilson in The Book of Boba Fett (Disney+ Series)
The second episode is better but I give the series another episode until I feel my time is more precious...
I'm glad more people are aware of Dean Cundey but when I saw the credits I felt sad because the cinematography was underwhelming. I don't know if it has something to do with the use of CGI but many scenes felt cheap. The backgrounds seem too static and the light fake, I know is just the desert, but they might need some wind, motion blur when the camera is moving, etc
But, anyway, my biggest problem with the show is the way they try to hook the fans including in Tosche station Camie and Laze, the reapear of Hutts... Seems that Star Wars is just a collection of winks for fans without making an effort in the story. Also, is curious how a 50 minutes episodes has 3 montages scenes: Boba learning to fight, the tuskens learning to ride the bikes and Boba making the stick.
As @rough cutI couldn't avoid laughing at the "part of the tribe" dance at the end...
[Sorry for the rant!]

I'm betting on CMIYC and Amistad expansions from LLL this year, for the 20th and 25th Anniversaries respectively. Maybe Hook too, if indeed they had planned a 30th anniversary release that got held up by approvals.
Yes I know very few releases are actually tied to anniversaries anymore, but it's John's 90th birthday after all! I hope this is a year for the books...

Could be something from the 20th Century Studios vaults because they are easy to work with
1962 Bachelor Flat 1966 How To Steal A Million 1967 Valley of the Dolls 1973 The Paper Chase 1973 Cinderella Liberty 1974 Conrack Could be a reissue of an MGM title because they are easy to work with
1969 Goodbye, Mr. Chips 1973 The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing 1973 Tom Sawyer 1976 The Missouri Breaks Could be something with a Disney connection because Intrada is the only label that can work with them
1995 Nixon 2000 The Patriot Could be something from Universal Pictures because Mike's been working with them a lot and spreading the love throughout the labels
1961 The Secret Ways 1965 The Killers 1966 The Rare Breed 1966 The Plainsman 1970 Storia di una donna (Story of a Woman) 1972 Pete 'n' Tillie 1974 The Sugarland Express 1975 Jaws 1976 Family Plot 1976 Midway 1978 Jaws 2 1981 Heartbeeps 1989 Born On The Fourth Of July Could be something from Paramount because Intrada's worked with them before
1969 The Reivers 1977 Black Sunday 1995 Sabrina 1997 Amistad 1999 Angela's Ashes 2002 Catch Me If You Can 2004 The Terminal Could be something at Sony, Intrada's worked with them a bunch
1960 Because They're Young 1963 Gidget Goes To Rome 1997 Seven Years In Tibet 1998 Stepmom Could be Warner Brothers too
1987 The Witches Of Eastwick 1988 The Accidental Tourist 1991 JFK 1996 Sleepers So many possibilities....
Maybe they found new elements to remaster Williams' scores to the Amazing Stories episodes Ghost Train and The Mission.
Maybe they are releasing an album of Galaxy's Edge and all its associated music
Maybe it's the Deluxe Edition of Solo on a physical disc and Roger typed Williams instead of Powell :p

DrTenma reacted to GerateWohl in The Book of Boba Fett (Disney+ Series)
I just have my cynical five minutes.
I remember those news stories where terminally ill people asked Lucasfilm, if they could watch the newest Star Wars episode before they die. Happened still with episode 7 and 8. Something like that will never happen anymore.
Under Disney Star Wars became meaningless in most ways. Just remains a leftover with some culture historical relevance and some kind of nostalgic money making franchise.

... So I'm in the group of people that didn't like it. I found the episode boring and badly done. I'm not a fan of The Mandalorian, but I put the quality of this episode among the worst of the two. Is quite sad for me to see something with the "Star Wars" name and feel so disconnected.
I'm glad many people enjoy the path that Favreau and Filoni are taking to the franchise but this is not for me.

DrTenma reacted to MattyO in Moonraker, License to Kill, and Tomorrow Never Dies expanded releases almost happened but are now on hold
Oh what could have been! MV posted these comments on a post in a James Bond Music page I follow. Hopefully the red tape gets cleared when NTTD finally gets released.
“Correction to everyone. It's not Eon. They are amazing to work with. It's two fold
1. The new movie delays. No one wants any older soundtracks out before the new movie arrives. Don't ask. This is the case with Top Gun and has been the case in the past (ie Xmen films and Apes films). The studios for some bizarre reason usually do not want any new soundtrack out of something old while the new one is coming out.
2. Capital Records, now UME, and MGM were right in the middle of renegotiating terms on all the Bond soundtracks right when Corona hit so it put the kibosh on things.
So that is why no new Bond for the moment. We were actually planning 3 at the time...moonraker (40th anniversary) license to kill(30th anniversary) and tomorrow never dies but all on hold”
He also mentions in another comment that OHMSS was also discussed.

DrTenma reacted to crumbs in The Book of Boba Fett (Disney+ Series)
It was structurally confusing. Either commit to setting it right after ROTJ and focus entirely on the escape from the Sarlaac (and whatever happens next) or focus on the political stuff in Jabba's Palace with the crime lords and whoever.
It felt like half of two different episodes smashed together, but neither was particularly interesting in its own right.

Well I still have faith that the season overall will be good. Some shows just take more than 1 episode to set everything up.

Yeah I thought the Rodriguez episode of Mando was the worst of the entire series. Resembled a fan film more than a Hollywood production.

DrTenma reacted to ragoz350 in RESTORED ISOLATED SCORE: Star Wars Saga (Unused Music Restored To Picture)
We continue to muse on the little sheet leak on TROS...
This time 1M6 Ren's Entrance cue. We know that it is intended for the scene on Mustafar, which is where the final film begins. The Oracle, who was later cut from the film, was also present in this scene. This cue has a later version (1M15 Vader's Castle), which is shorter in length and partially used in the film.
This scene was not originally in the beginning of the movie - before it there was Rey's training (cues 1M3-5).
I didn't think to do a video for this cue at first (since only the very last shots in the final film is intact), but since I started posting all the mockups in this thread, I decided not to make a confusion.
The beginning of the cue was obviously temp-tracked by Padme's Ruminations from Ep. III that JW almost repeated (by removing the synth and adding string clusters). I "restored" this part in very rough way... Honestly, I have no idea what was supposed to happen here - the slo-mo footage was already in the teaser, but there may have been more.
The string fragment sounding during the perhaps gradual appearance of the Oracle was moved into 7M20 Approaching the Throne cue by the composer.
It's also interesting to note the rendition of the Imperial March, which seems to be heard here during the dialogue - in the newer version of the cue, the March sounds very loud and longer, apparently during the added (and then deleted) shot of Vader's castle.
After that, Oracle disappears, and Kylo takes the Wayfinder. Interestingly, unlike the new version, there is no Kylo theme or Wayfinder motif here.
And an abnormally long chord (if the timecode is to be believed) is followed by a transition to 1M7 cue - possibly Journey to Exegol.

DrTenma reacted to Thor in Favourite piano performances by John Williams himself?
I looked through 6 pages of previous threads that had the word 'piano' in the headline, but could find none about this subject, in particular. So I hope it hasn't been done before.
I thought it would be fun to share some of our favourites of Williams' own piano performances -- whether in film, on albums or any other circumstance. That is, occasions where he plays piano himself.
Feel free to share Youtube videos, but if you share a lot at the same time, PLEASE PUT THEM IN SPOILER TAGS. Otherwise, the page loads forever. Thank you! But even better: The topic will go on longer if we just share one at a time, with a sentence or two as to why you've picked it.
I have a huge catalogue of personal favourites myself, but to start off easy and to not hog this entire topic myself right off the bat, I just want to share this little track from Mancini's COMBO! (1961) album, which features Williams goofing around on a harpshicord, in typical 60s baroque jazz style. Love it!
