  1. The score asks for 112 bpm. Williams takes the Vienna performance on average at about 100. But you’re right it is noticeably slower but I think I like it. I listened back to the Dirk Brosse/LSO Royal Albert Hall performance of the March and it seems far too fast now in comparison, although at the time it was the best I had ever heard the imperial March performed
  2. The one thing that gets me is the late entry of the snare drum after the B section. It makes the music lack noticeably and it’s interesting to see how much the snare actually adds to that ostinato!
  3. Global’s (company that own Classic FM as well as basically every other commercial radio station) catch up player - Bill Turnbull’s show from today (3 May)
  4. Just listened back to the broadcast that Classic FM "premiered" the Imperial March on. The Imperial March sounds great - even in low res radio streaming. However, the opening applause and cheers have disappeared from the recording. The snare drum late entry is still there from the Sunday performance, so I'm wondering why the eruption of applause at the opening of the piece is missing... maybe this was one of the re-recordings in the "patch-up" sessions after the concert. Sounds good though, despite being maybe just slightly underspeed. Ending is phenomenal, love the rall in the last bar. No applause at the end either.... interesting
  5. Ah - so a lot of Mutter missing. I would’ve liked The Duel and Potter and perhaps Cinderella Liberty to be on there too. Grateful for a BD release now
  6. No Ticket from Indy 3 is one of JW’s campest moments
  7. This page of score was actually meant to be for his wife as a Christmas present.. until he found out Daisy was visiting the scoring session.
  8. When are we getting this damn disc??? C'mon DG I need to hear the Vienna Phil give me that last G minor chord at the end of Shark Cage Fugue again!!!

I love hearing about the Maestro’s adventures around the US conducting gigs and the like. It is nice that he is making many appearances - he must be focusing more prominently on his conducting work this year. I wonder whether he ever misses the Boston Pops days..
  10. JW: You’re a what? No, no, you must be mistaken - they don’t allow women to do that.. HG: Fuck you.
  11. I had never heard the brass polyphony writing so clearly until Vienna - unbelievable magic.
  12. Guy’s not using a score either. It’s there but he knows he doesn’t need to open it. It would be a distraction from engaging with the orchestra in his final moments of being able to play with them in front of an audience.
  13. According to this description from the delightful ASM, herself and Williams DID go straight to the airport to fly home... !! 😮
  14. knew my music degree would come in handy for something
  15. Just the rall seemed to be greater and more dramatic. Much more separated beats. I was surprised
  16. Has Dirk Brosse reared his head yet? Still can’t believe this is happening!! My brain won’t allow me!!!
  17. John Williams- a true professional- doesn’t miss a beat when he realises cellos are out of time and turns to politely make sure they are still with the beat. A true talent with an amazing focus. Unbelievable for his age. Incredible
  18. From someone’s Facebook.... I am going tomorrow and will be so overwhelmed I can tell already... oh my god FullSizeRender.mov
  19. I am conVINCED he came to the Royal Academy of Music to do a concert there in the 90s? that sounds to me the last time he gave a concert in the UK perhaps it was this then.. 😦
  20. Just a quick question- there were two gentlemen in our quiet Hilton hotel restaurant last night chatting heavily about film scores, Live to Picture concert and JW - are you guys on this forum!! Should’ve said hello
