  1. I never liked Steven Moffat unfortunately, always preferred Russel T Davies as the show runner - I might try and pick it up again when the Jodie Whittaker episodes come out, although I've been away from the series for quite a while so been a bit out of the loop.

No Doctor is irreplaceable.  That's kind of the point.

I mean for me in terms of favourites.

  2. I do like this cue:

Really funky use of the sections of the orchestra, and works great with that part of the episode.

I don't watch Doctor Who anymore, I did when I was 6-12. David Tennant is fantastic. I gave up after Matt Smith took over unfortunately, maybe because I grew up too fast or maybe because I didn't enjoy Matt Smith's performance. All I know is that Tennant is irreplaceable.

  3. Williams specialises in writing for full orchestra - bombastically or not, that is his forte. He knows the ins and outs of every instrument, and therefore his Magnum Opus is most likely going to be a mighty orchestral work like Empire, rather than something like The Post - because mighty orchestral is what John williams is best at doing. The sound he produces with a full orchestra is synonymous with himself, and he knows that. Which is why so many of his scores take advantage of the full orchestra.

    Also Orchestras are cool.

Massive, long-running orchestral scores that are full of diverse themes, emotions and allow you to enter another world. Therefore especially Empire and Conan somehow epitomize this term, in my opinion.

The last one was amplified to such a ridiculous extent that would be impossible.

Trust me - I’d give it my best shot.

Let’s play the “Guess the Setlist” Game. Let’s try and get as close to the final setlist as we can when it’s revealed (when).

I’ll kick things off by suggesting that the concert will open with “Flight to Neverland”.

I've never even begun to listen to the score. I've listened to a suite once and admired that. Should I listen to the score? Please don't everyone swear at me at once. I have never seen the film though 😕 - score first or film?

  6. What would you consider to be Johnny's Magnum Opus - the greatest film score he has ever written? We're talking complete film scores here - the most exhilarating ride emotionally from start to finish? What does it for you?

Mine would have to be Empire. Pure genius - the never-ending musical madness action cue that is the Battle of Hoth to the singing strings of Han Solo and the Princess, the rich vibrato of Yoda's theme to the intensely dramatic The Clash of Lightsabres. The greatest musical story John Williams has produced.

In your eyes, what do you think is John Williams' Magnum Opus?

  7. Hey everyone,

What’s your best “meeting John Williams” story? How many of you guys have met the maestro? How did you manage to meet him? Did you sneak into his dressing room post-show? Did you bump into him on the street? What did you talk to him about? What would you talk to him about if you got the chance!? Share share share!!

(Side note - never met him lol)

I don’t think so, although I think it wasn’t too far after that. Unless it was... damn I wish I payed more attention to what was going on rather than listening to the score. When I am a little less busy I’ll try and listen to some of the soundtrack. :)

  9. Just got back from the movie. As far as quoting original JW Themes goes, I think Giacchino quoted them just the right amount of times. Certain quotes did give me goosebumps. The best quote of the original Jurassic Park theme came around the middle of the movie, reharmonised and wrapped around the accompaniment, although I can’t remember exactly what was happening on screen at the time. If anyone can deduce which track it is on the OST from my very vague description I’d be very pleased :)

it's not impossible Williams helped out, i'm more and more certain of it. Like Powell handed the theme to Williams and Williams scribbled better notes over it

The sole fact that there’s an oboe playing a melody and not a god damn trumpet like the rest of the score shows that Williams had something to do with this.

  11. What a nightmare the score is to listen to. Little variations in texture, orchestrational chaos. No tension in the pieces and therefore no release and payoff and satisfaction for the listener. I love The Adventures of Han - but what the fuck is Powell doing in the Star Wars universe? This is not a Star Wars score and I don’t like that it’s trying to sit in that universe. Powell cocks up the traditional themes on quite a few occasions. At least Williams still knows how to write.

I am sorry for this unpopular opinion. Rip into me all you wish for this, it’s 12:30am GMT and I’m going to sleep.
