  1. This is my new favourite recording of Hedwig's Theme. Knew it on the first hearing.
  2. Jango and Obi-Wan flying through the asteroid field is my favourite sound design sequence ever.
  3. A tempest in a teacup over a living vestige of mid-20th century academic views with an axe to grind. It is beyond obvious that Williams does not fit into his historical narratives other than as a footnote. Move along...
  4. Are we sure they hired the right John Williams for the job?
  5. This is the closest we will get to a Furtwängler take on Williams's music. @Holko
  6. unless it is a work that is not going as well as he would wish, or the completion of which he is very unsure of
  7. From the director of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra (with ties to Tanglewood), Rafael Enrique Irizarry: source: https://slippedisc.com/2022/06/john-williams-this-will-be-my-last-film/
  8. Late June 2004? Now that was an awkward timing... Anyway, I am reviving the thread to highlight that 18 years after all those worries Williams is scoring another Indiana Jones adventure. Riddikulous!
  9. Credit is given in a deliberately misleading way. Nothing new, nothing acceptable either.
  10. This, Williams's main theme, Vader's voice algorithm, and Liam Neeson's surprisingly professional cameo are the only things in this series that felt good to me. Okay, maybe also a few moments in McGregor's fight choreography. Some of those moves were damn smooth. Everything else was a voice of a million Plinketts crying out in terror.
  11. I liked the chunked approach to Williams's theme (understood here as the entire composition). Ostinato here, a few chords there... it felt like a Howard Shore style of scoring.
  12. By the end of the last episode Williams's theme had been used so many times in so many kinds of contexts, that it feels now like a main theme from The Ten Commandments, Lawrence of Arabia, Mummy / Mummy Returns, or some other adventure where the main theme sometimes serves just as a reminder that you are still watching the same 'cinematic spectacle'. compare: 2:55 I already feel nostalgic about it.
  13. after having wasted Boba's story on The Mandalorian, no less
  14. The plot thickens. The thematic material and the orchestration of the logo music have been woven into the score of the 4th episode, fitting a dimly lit sneaking scene in an imperial hallway like a glove. It's not exactly the same thing, but sounds adapted from it. Either it's an awesome use of logo music, or... could it be that it is the logo music that has been derived from that cue in the first place?
  15. As a child I used to find Luke boring and too uncharismatic to be the main character, and preferred Anakin and Obi-wan who at least had some character traits.
