  1. Eh, she played the solo parts because she is a famous career soloist. Principal players are also called "soloists" in some orchestras. It just refers to the player who (by virtue of playing the 1st part) plays most of the solos for the instrument, in a given work. Principal players are also expected to lead the other musicians of their sections, as well as to blend in when necessary. But it's not like every "soloist" player is drastically different than the other members of the orchestra. I think you're slightly overestimating the difference. That being said, I do think in most cases principal players are "the best"/have the most personality in their playing, and that's why they got hired for the role. So FWIW, I do agree with you though about the principals missing from these concerts. I wish Stefan Dohr was playing.
  2. Very cool. I don't see the guy who was playing 1st horn listed there; wonder who he is.
  3. I noticed that. That kind of bugged me. I thought they still sounded great, but for instance it would have been nice to see Stefan Dohr on 1st horn. Actually, some of the people I saw playing 1st, I don't even see them listed on the Berlin Phil website as members... Did they bring in freelancers to play principal? Strange. Any reason why? Is it something to do with the Vienna album?
  4. Thanks so much for posting the MP3. But wow, these performances are even better than I remember earlier, watching the stream! Some of these may even beat all the competition.
  5. I really hope DG does an album release of this. I imagine they'd like to, after the success of the Vienna album(s). If not them, then perhaps the orchestra's own label would do it?
  6. Why are they still clapping...? Looks like JW and the orchestra are long gone...
  7. LOL, those low brass notes towards the end of Raiders March! Not sure I've ever heard them that loud.
  8. Hm... I'm watching the livestream online and I heard a mishap in the horns in that piece. I wonder, is last night's concert the one being broadcast?
  9. Hm, for some reason when I click your video links, I am brought to a page that says "Sorry! We could not locate the item you are trying to view." Is anyone else having this issue?
  10. Agreed 100%. And you raise an interesting point... What if they accidentally released a temp master? I doubt it, but you never know. To my ears, there are just way too many screw-ups to explain how something like this got released as an actual final product. And you're right; just because something is a job and the person/people working on it may not be "fans" or even like the project - doesn't mean all these errors are acceptable. If anything, it should be *less* acceptable, since these people are getting *paid* to do this. It was.
  11. I'll never understand how fans can pick up on these things so quickly, yet the people spending months working on them, don't (or don't care?). Everything you just listed should have been addressed before signing off on this release and making it available.
  12. Oh gosh, yep... For some reason there's a little sliver of silence inserted between the string intro and his entrance. You can actually hear a little blip from the last string note repeated when he sings his first words... EDIT: Maybe Botnick tried to edit two takes together, the instrumental intro and then a different take for the song. It obviously didn't go as well as planned. I could tell something was "off" when I first heard it, but now I know why: it's that little blip of strings that plays out of nowhere, when he starts singing. Ugh. Start at 1:34 and listen at half speed. You'll see what I mean. @Holko
  13. Finally gave this bit a listen; there's no excuse for at least that to not be fixed at some point...
  14. Ugh. Well, looks like I may be returning to the 90s OST. (Speaking of which, I also prefer how in the OST, "Out There" has a clean beginning.)
  15. I checked Twitter and thankfully there are multiple people calling out this error. Still, idk if anything will be done. But at least it's not going totally unnoticed. I don't care if they throw out half the demos, I just want this fixed lol.
  16. Ugh... I think you're right. And as others have mentioned, disc 2 does begin quite suddenly - as though there should be another track before it. The fact though that they packed the rest of disc 2 with yet another demo, makes me think it's less likely that this will be fixed... I really hope it can, though. And yes, I know that the missing bit is on the OST - but that's an album from 25 years ago, and it's not a "2021 remaster" like everything else. Is it too much to ask, for a Legacy Collection edition to have all the score from the OST (plus more)? This is just a major letdown. Hopefully something can be done. I'd trade basically any of the demos or extras, to get that score cue.
  17. Based on Botnick's "it's everything" comment, one would think that the exclusion of the Frollo's death cue is a mistake... Hopefully it can be fixed...
  18. What with all the Prague stuff, they should have gone all out and hired The City of Prague Philharmonic. It's not like they could make Giacchino's music sound any worse.
  19. How so? You can hear the horn triplets at 4:08 much better than the OST recording, the trumpet repeated notes starting at 4:33, etc.
  20. Interesting, thanks. I'll stick with the OST version for my go-to, then. There's always the superior-sounding Lockhart version for if I'd like to hear it without choir.
