Locrius reacted to Kasey Kockroach in John Powell's Solo vs Michael Giacchino's Rogue One (post Solo release poll)
Giacchino's failure has been of greater intrigue to me than Williams phoning it in with the sequel scores.

Solo is my favorite Star Wars score, and I doubt Powell could top it with any of his other scores, so . . . no, Chicken Run isn't his best.

Solo actually had some effort put into it. Anyone who voted otherwise should be banned.

Locrius reacted to SteveMc in What's your favorite non-franchise Williams score?
Have you heard the Symphonic suite Williams crafted from Hook themes? High class stuff, all the way.

Now that's a crescendo. Reminds me of the opening to Inception (a little bit).

Locrius got a reaction from aviazn in The Best John Williams Score of the 2010s
THE LAST JEDI, hands down. Basically everything I liked from THE FORCE AWAKENS, but more. TFA was great for defining the sound of the ST; TLJ honed it and perfected it. And "The Fathiers" is one of the most exciting chase cues from Williams in years.

Locrius reacted to Kasey Kockroach in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT (2018) - Film & Score
Well according to David Arnold, "we don't put out soundtracks, records and film companies do".
Well then, if you're aware it'll get an album...why not make it enjoyable to listen to?

Notice how this debate is non-existent when the score is actually good.

Exactly! Balfe seems to want the "best" from both worlds: to write a mediocre score with the minimum effort (or talent) that doesn't hold up outside the picture, and to cash in on an overlong soundtrack release.

IIRC, Powell said in a couple interviews that Williams also scored a couple "cues"—as in, he didn't only write "The Adventures of Han". My guess (as has been since I first heard the track) is that 1:10 till the end of "Dice & Roll" is pure Williams.

Locrius reacted to The Illustrious Jerry in The Best John Williams Score of the 2010s
Funny how The Pursuit of the Falcon could easily be a Star Wars track title.

John Powell is the next one. He's only going to get better, especially if any more SW spinoffs are made-it seems JW has given him the reigns and approves.
I love Chicken Run very, very much, however since, John Powell has excelled.
John Powell Greatest Works
How to Train Your Dragon 1 & 2
His top work to many. No. 3 on its way.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Unlike his fellow SW Spinoff Composer Mike Giacchino, he decided to write a number of great themes and motifs, bringing to life old ones of Williams composition.
Horton Hears a Who
It's Powell at his best-which is crazy because he's only getting better.
Ferdinand
I have not given it my full attention this yet, but a few bits sound great to my ears.
He also just released Hubris, the choral spectacular.
Harry Gregson-Williams is the black sheep in my books. I actually stopped a Narnia movie in disgust because of him. I don't really regard his work that much, so it's not fair.

"What did HGW ever do to you?"
"That's narnia business!"

Locrius reacted to John in The MCU - Marvel Cinematic Universe
Really? I thought it was one of the MCU's weakest entries. There are plenty of good-to-great moments in the film (the Yondu arrow scene was badass), but the entire thing is padded out and derailed by overly unripe jokes that are initially okay and then quickly overstay their welcome.

Locrius reacted to SteveMc in Williams' Liberty Fanfare played by the Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards during Trump UK visit.
I'll tell you what I make of it.
It is an honor to have the Guards play the piece, regardless of who they are playing it for.
