This made me super mad since Solo may be my favorite all-time score. And, anyway, with all the amazing scores that Powell has done, he really deserves an Oscar.

I guess since Ennio Morricone had to wait decades for his Oscar, Powell will just have to do the same.

    Here's why I hate it:

    (3:09)

    (1:03)

Same key, same progression, even some of the same figures. One of the laziest self-rip-offs I've ever heard. Aside from that, the theme is just incredibly cheesy and feels extremely out of place in STAR TREK.

Yeah no I could not send the picture as the network is weak in the concert hall. Speaking of which is a great venue. It’s the intermission and for now I can say that Valerian greatly benefits a live performance !

Concert is recorded by the way. Audio and video .

So the best score of the year isn't getting an FYC album or even a nomination possibility? Unbelievable.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story,” composed by John Powell with themes by John Williams, was nixed by the board as having been entered too late for the competition (deadline was Nov. 15).

How the hell does a multi-billion dollar company like Disney miss the deadline for the Oscars? Disney clearly doesn't care. Which is a shame because Solo might be my favorite score of the Disney era (TLJ, is a close second, TFA has the best themes and RO has the best single track in "Your Father Would Be Proud").

He wrote the longer Quartet La Jolla, though it's not as listener friendly as Air and Simple Gift. Still, of the two, I prefer the La Jolla.

I read some article bashing the film and I quit reading when it became about an asian woman being a snake and that was deemed offensive because it was somekind of negative stereotype of asian woman

Ha! I was collecting answers to questions as I scrolled down only to find various other people answering them as I went. Very efficient!

    However...

Thanks! It's an original composition from Nicholas Buc and it's actually a live recording. The "outro" music is also a Nick Buc tune.

I double checked with Nick and he said:

Yes, I actually wrote that back in my university days! It was originally the theme for an SBS news and current affairs show called Newsline (which only lasted 6 weeks!). I was concertmaster of the Melbourne Youth Orchestra at the time and asked if I could quickly put up a couple of mics and record this little thing I wrote. So I jumped up onto the podium to conduct and and we did it in about 20 minutes!

Listening to the partial clean "Rescue of Sirius" from that podcast from a few weeks ago has finally made me realize how great a cue it is:

I'm still not a huge fan of Buckbeak's theme (in any context), but the opening of this cue kicks some serious ass -- and I'm excited to hear the full clean version on the new set. This cue clearly foreshadowed the (imho) even better "Presses Roll" from The Post.

I always break up these sets by film and use each individual film's cover art (so LLL's TLW cover rather than the JP box set cover). Very rarely will I replace the official album cover.

I'm curious about why SS PS uses new art but COS and POA retain the OST covers (with added borders). Maybe some unused art they found in the archives? Or Struzan's portrait-shaped poster looked funny with a border?

Ultimately what matters is the music and there's no reason to think MM hasn't hit this one out of the park (especially with Jay's reassurances).

    Yeah, Hook-Napped too!
And The Pagemaster, what a memory you dug up! Great fun and great score

Yeah, sorry about that, I didn't want to sound like the classic "plagiarism" guy.
I actually don't care about these similarities: I actually like finding these musical fingerprints in soundtracks and music.
Listening to Holst's The Planets is a great experience for this reason, in my opinion.
Stuff like the T-Rex chase in JP being scored homaging The Rite of Spring
(the exact section where in Fantasia the T-Rex is wrecking havoc, to be exact) really makes me giggle.

I was just referring to the first five notes you hear at 0:34.
The intervals, the rhythmic pattern. I don't know, that small part of Hook reminds me of HP,
just like these seven chords in Rey's Theme sound a little bit Azkaban-esque to me.
I'm not saying the entire cues are identical!

you still haven''t got it.  Ross didn't write the quiddich music  . I guess Jay posting 100 times that Williams wrote all the new music doesn't really matter because it doesn't get through to a few people
Ross might have written a few transitional note here and there  to join cues in place  and handled the tracked music that's it. He didn't compose entire cues or even parts of them

Williams does this all the time. I'm sure people can point out many cues in Last Jedi .Here he just modified Chase on Coruscant because he''d just worked on that and was in a hurry

And if the quiddich music doesn't count as a NEW composition in Jay's mind then I'm wrong . It's  like a very distinct alternate so I have no idea what you people consider "adapting" anymore
