Locrius reacted to Will in Harry Potter 7CD Collection - SAMPLES and clips discussion
Listening to the partial clean "Rescue of Sirius" from that podcast from a few weeks ago has finally made me realize how great a cue it is:

I'm still not a huge fan of Buckbeak's theme (in any context), but the opening of this cue kicks some serious ass -- and I'm excited to hear the full clean version on the new set. This cue clearly foreshadowed the (imho) even better "Presses Roll" from The Post.

I always break up these sets by film and use each individual film's cover art (so LLL's TLW cover rather than the JP box set cover). Very rarely will I replace the official album cover.

I'm curious about why SS PS uses new art but COS and POA retain the OST covers (with added borders). Maybe some unused art they found in the archives? Or Struzan's portrait-shaped poster looked funny with a border?

Ultimately what matters is the music and there's no reason to think MM hasn't hit this one out of the park (especially with Jay's reassurances).

    Yeah, Hook-Napped too!
And The Pagemaster, what a memory you dug up! Great fun and great score

Yeah, sorry about that, I didn't want to sound like the classic "plagiarism" guy.
I actually don't care about these similarities: I actually like finding these musical fingerprints in soundtracks and music.
Listening to Holst's The Planets is a great experience for this reason, in my opinion.
Stuff like the T-Rex chase in JP being scored homaging The Rite of Spring
(the exact section where in Fantasia the T-Rex is wrecking havoc, to be exact) really makes me giggle.

I was just referring to the first five notes you hear at 0:34.
The intervals, the rhythmic pattern. I don't know, that small part of Hook reminds me of HP,
just like these seven chords in Rey's Theme sound a little bit Azkaban-esque to me.
I'm not saying the entire cues are identical!

you still haven''t got it.  Ross didn't write the quiddich music  . I guess Jay posting 100 times that Williams wrote all the new music doesn't really matter because it doesn't get through to a few people
Ross might have written a few transitional note here and there  to join cues in place  and handled the tracked music that's it. He didn't compose entire cues or even parts of them

Williams does this all the time. I'm sure people can point out many cues in Last Jedi .Here he just modified Chase on Coruscant because he''d just worked on that and was in a hurry

And if the quiddich music doesn't count as a NEW composition in Jay's mind then I'm wrong . It's  like a very distinct alternate so I have no idea what you people consider "adapting" anymore

I can not afford it.  They should have released each movie separately.

Can't wait for this! Random preference question: when importing a collection like this (or THE JOHN WILLIAMS JURASSIC PARK COLLECTION) into iTunes/an equivalent digital music library, do you guys treat it as one album with the overall cover art for all tracks, or do you split it up by scores so that each score is its own individual album with its own art? Was just curious how other users here handle a release such as this one, especially since each soundtrack does have its own art (and in high quality too!), if one did want to treat it as a series of separate releases. I'm a bit torn as to what I'd do.

No, one movie, one album! That's the golden rule. As to album art, I'm flexible. In the case of JP, I really loved the new art, so I used that for both. Which is okay, because it says Jurassic Park Collection, meaning both movies!

If it's a two disc album of a single movie, however, I treat it as one CD on my music player. Like this:

I'm also just gonna put this out there...I also vastly prefer the way the recording itself sounds over TLJ and especially TFA (even though ironically, I think TFA is Williams' strongest Star Wars work of the 2010s). It's of course a matter of personal taste, but for me, this is exactly why I wish the sequel scores could have been recorded with the LSO, even if it meant someone like Bill Ross conducting rather than Williams himself.

I was never a big fan of Across the Stars, but I love the new arrangement. It makes it sound like a theme expressly written for violin and orchestra, one of Williams' finest of this century.

When I heard that they were supposedly seriously considering replacement dates, the comment also included that it wouldn't happen before autumn 2019. So it seems that the Ep9 schedule was already factored in.

Of course, with our luck, Abrams will require extensive last minute rescoring and Williams will have to cancel at the last minute...

If his illness really wasn't travel related, and if Vienna is indeed a bucket list item, I'd say chances actually don't look so bad.

While I like the main theme - I am not thrilled by the fact that it is presented in such a simple demo like manner - almost a midi.

The piano version should have had more ambition. A piano solo shouldn't be scored for Youtuber Difficulty level 1 players. It should feel like an actual piece in itself that could be played in a concert. This arrangement is so simply and unchallenging that is not likely to be featured on its own in any concert.

The part at 1:01 should have been how the piece started and it should have built up with even more complex counterpoint as it went on to be more musically interesting.

Take for example the first 2 minutes of Williams Sabrina theme. It is very interesting musically on its own and is most definitely not a throwaway demo but an actual piece that a pianist might play.

This chap on Classic FM is irritating me.  Not only did he refer to the items on the programme as "songs" but he reckoned the second half would "build to a crescendo".  Grr!
