What flags are taken out on to the track at the start of ESB?

As the guy who assigned track names to at least one of the two bootlegs going around based on watching a VHS of the movie and listening to the hissy cues on the cassette I got from (I think) Chris CrusherComix, I will absolutely confirm that this is 100% true. 😂

Having just got to the end of Seinfeld (amazingly never watched it until now but loved it and hasn’t dated nearly as much as some of its contemporaries… cough… Friends) I loved the use of a heavily edited version of the Superman March in the pre-finale clip show.

I freaking love these videos!! The actors playing Brody and Vaughn look like they’re having a blast and the crowd interactions are so much fun. And of course the actual parade float looks stupidly awesome and very well put together.

Mike confirmed on the Podcast that 3. The First Chase is a normal cue that was unused in the film. And only one source cue was included (Franklyn Falls is a mix between both so it not that one.) The source cue that was included has no Brass on it and the once that was cut has Brass in them.

Just listen to each disc of Hook on its own. That only requires your full attention for 80 minutes per sitting!

Yessir, I've been using them for many years and highly recommend them!

Is that not something you'd have to do OS-side? I've never heard of headphones coming with their own software before.

I might be mistaken but I’m pretty certain @Manakin Skywalkeruses these, and if so, then yes they are great headphones haha. I just use a cheap set my wife got me a few years ago.

    First listen impressions:

This restoration is bloody brilliant. Absolutely remarkable sound quality.  The assembly is delightful, telling a narrative that goes from carefree to desperate to clinging to hope to finale.  I would’ve liked to have the source music as bonus tracks. But I can’t complain because the album ends on such a Jaws End Title style satisfying note.

You can really hear Toots Thielemans’ vocal sounds and it’s a blast.

I almost understand why Williams didn’t want it released. Not because it’s slight, or short, but because there are so many wild takes of long sustained tones with the Wrecking Crew doing their thing.  I don’t want to use the word droning because that has a negative connotation associated with it. But this isn’t a Mickey Mouse synch point score.

But my god check out the desperation in Sealing the Bargain.  The percussion in The Caravan Forms and To the Roadblock.  Oh my God Pursuit is brilliant.  Like ‘Lost World’ brilliant.

Amazing to start the score with the breezy, hicky Freedom at Last and The First Chase, and then move into the Police percussion stuff with some wild recorded Toots and the Wrecking Crew and then finally the Final Ride is almost the crescendo rivaling the Beatles’ Day in the Life. And then the End Title for denouement.  Every version of The Theme blows the revision from 1990 out of the water, which never seems to resolve, with numerous false starts of the complete melody.

It’s probably a divisive score.  Some people will fall in the middle and say “meh”.  I absolutely love it.  Personally, I find this no less bold and experimental than Images.  I mentioned the Lost World earlier… I think it’s brilliant in similar ways. Naturally I prefer the Lost World, but this is similarly unconventional.

There’s a melancholic feeling about it, and yet there’s a joy for life threaded through.  The sounds are evocative of memories of when I was very young (born in 1972) and that really speaks to me.  I grew up with OG Sesame Street, so Toots was always a part of my life, as silly as that may sound.

I want to see the movie again now.

This was worth the wait and more.

Late to the party - I just listened to Hook part 1 and OMG is it interesting.

What a drama when DD tried to block MM (and succeeded with the first expansion of Hook)… I think MM retold the story with a calm not many could have mustered.

It was super interesting to hear the background story of how an expansion comes together and all the red tape that needs to be handled. It sounds as if not many could do the job that MM does.

On that note, what a godsend MM is. That man’s attention to detail and willingness to put in the hard work - combined with diplomacy and patience - makes me very happy that JW’s work is in his hands.

I haven’t listened to the Sugarland Express episode yet, but any podcast/episode festering MM’s insights are worth listening to multiple times and I’ll get to it - just waiting for the CD to arrive first. 😊

Just got paid, and Sugarland seemed like an appropriate enough score to bundle with Jaws, so I just placed my order for both!

I was able to listen to the podcast episode this morning and it's a really good one!

I quite enjoyed all the talk of the Sugarland film, well as the score, and putting both in context of what Spielberg and Williams were doing before and after.

After the Sugarland talk, Mike gives a small update on Williams' health, which isn't really much more than what was said publicly already, but it still so nice to hear from a close collaborator talking as opposed to reading a press release.

And then he says another Williams title, that's already completely finished, should be coming out soon, and then another one should be out by the end of the year. Love to hear it!

GREAT episode.  Love Mike's response to the 1990 concert version.  Also really appreciated Mike's words he was able to disclose regarding Williams' health status.  I had just read the liner notes before listening to the podcast, so I was hyped to hear about the Wrecking Crew

God help me, the way Mike described the forthcoming LP made to appear like it came out in 1974, I'm actually considering a purchase.

Thank you to all involved for bringing us this great conversation.  I'm ready to sit down with the CD now.

I'll fill you in as it might quit yer whining. The next Williams by Mike is done and coming out 'soon', and hopefully more by the end of the year.

By the way, the end of the Raiders March faded in as Mike was saying that sentence. Make of that what you will. *

*actually it didn't. But you felt that for a second, right?
