St0rMl0rD reacted to Marian Schedenig in Deadline's December 31st Article on John Williams
The Vienna "announcement" might be a fluke, too - Fabio Luisi is conducting ASM and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in Vienna in June:

I was just about to post that. Maybe the Deadline article is in error?
That concert is on my birthday, by the way - and I can't go because I've already invited friends to a party. Would be annoying to miss Williams himself because of that, on my birthday of all things…

The other curiosity is… is he really coming to London to conduct the Phil (nothing wrong with them) - and skipping the LSO?

Was shocked when I saw that he's coming back in just a month! Unreal and unbelievable. I saw him in October in Berlin, as well as in Vienna in 2020, so I'll skip this one, but if he happens to go to London, you can bet I'm going there!

In "serious" classical concerts, and with a good conductor, you often get a prolonged silence after a work followed by frenetic applause. *Because* it was so good. The silence lets the full impact of the performance (and the final notes) sink in. Personally, I find a sustained silence after an excellent performance at least as emotional as the applause following it.
Conductors will often try to prompt silence by keeping their arms raised after the last note. I think Williams managed that during Saturday's Elegy, but with his big hits, he probably doesn't stand a chance anyway.

Well, to be fair, we have plenty of clean imperial march openings. I was too busy enjoying the experience to be bothered really.

What might be disturbing in the recording, that in both concerts that I attended there was at least one person in the audience who couldn't wait until the performance was finished and had to applause over the last fading seconds of the piece as if they tried to avoid any kind of uncomfortable silence in the room.
Anyway, when Williams announced, that now he is going to play three pieces from Harry Potter, I would even have expected no applause inbetween the pieces. Usually, in the concert hall when there multiple pieces of a suite or a symphony with multiple movements there is no applause between the movements. At that concert nobody cared about those concert hall customs.
